i believe not, too much added weight

also to clarify brits call the trunk a boot and the hood a bonnet, i dunno why, but it sounds cooler at least

yeah a a shopping cart is a "trolley" or a "truck." What's up with that??

and a delivery truck is called a lorrey i believe. but i am not sure what you mean by remote opening. do you mean powered, that it raises on it's own like some of the SUV's have now? or do you mean just push a button on the keyfob to pop it open so you don't have to struggle with the key for opening? i believe this last function is standard.

nah, i prefer trunk and hood...bonnet sound like a little girl's hat

i think they call elevators lifts which makes sense since it's easier to say and does what it implies

so when they are going down do they call them "drops" or "fallings"

And of course there are a few words we use in the USA for which there are no known translations for the British: e.g. deodarant, dentist.

Just to add to the earlier off thread talk....

I've thought of a few words that do not translate well to the USA equivalent.....

geography (in US it means America as there is nothing else important)
self-rule (in US it translates as 'let's invade them as they now own a grenade' so must be a threat)
eco-friendly (translates as 'must use big vehicles, use tonnes of earths resources etc)


Just kidding....by the way - where does the dentist/teeth myth come from? It's not true you know.... may have been about 30 years ago....


US stuff that does not translate well to British..

Confidence (in UK this means you start strong, like your really trying, then kind of let it drift along. Hence our crap tennis players for example)
Cheap (in UK it translates as 'over priced' or 'expensive, but we'll con you into thinking it isn't)
Sunshine (translates as 'what's that?')
