I finally got to talk with somone who appears to know what' they're talking about at my dealer, and she indicated that Mazda was building the US spec RX-8 in batches by color, with silver and yellows coming off the line first and green somewhere at the end. Sorry, I didn't ask about the other colors. I was more preoccupied over the late (August) deliver date for mine and a possible fubar over options. When production was ready to begin, whatever was on order in the system was queued up, possibly according to some factory optimizing scheme (my guess). Date of order (mine was Jan 12) or allocation didn't seem to matter all that much to the build order.

So the question is, has anyone else heard this? Is building in batches by color typical (it seems to make some sense)? Does anyone know the color distribution of the cars "on water" versus those coming later (late July, then August)? I'm curious, and if there's any green ones coming off the ship this month I'll be suitably annoyed.

i don't thnk they are doing that. i looked back at the vins i ran and i only saw 1 green one thay was a new vin i did see lots of the other colors on the boat. i dont think there are too many green ones ordered. i cant not confirm but i dont think they are doing it that way.

I'm not sure, but Roger Beasley Mazda's inventory manager (budaman) says there's only about 800 cars on the first boats. Only 1 to 2 cars to each dealer from the first shipment. The 2 they're getting are both Winning Blue... and one's mine!:D Should be here in a couple of weeks!!!:D :D Don't know what other dealers are getting out of this first shipment.

My dealer in Santa Monica phoned me June 6th and told me my car was on the boat. I ordered Nordic Green on Jan 15th. Dealer said I was on 2nd allocation at first but now said I would get my car by the end of June. I ordered with no NAV and the dealer said that I would get my car sooner because the NAV option was installed by a vendor in the US. I will bypass that delay.
I have high hopes for delivery but I won't be surprized if it doesn't show this month.

I don't have VIN yet, instead I got the "your order has been accepted by the factory" email when everyone else got their VIN emails. However, Pam said she had a VIN, I believe, and hers is green too. I am so frustrated by this whole thing- I love this car, but I am SO tired of waiting.

In Canada, Green isn't even possible. Presumably, Mazda Canada thinks the cars would get lost amongst all our trees.

this is easy to beleive. The painting robots prolly have to have all the painting equiptment broken down and cleaned to change colors as to not contaminate the color. Although i'm sure they have designed a fairly quick method of changing out paint as to not slow down production.

my dealer apparently didn't order my car until feb 21 even though i went in on jan 8 and jan 10 and called again on jan 13. like elara i got the factory accepted email when everyone else got their vin emails. thanks to some digging by a freind i have found out that although my dealer told me thay have no vins yet, five vins have been assigned to cars headed for their dealership none of which is a silver touring which i ordered. and i was the first one to actually come in and order there.

I'm in the same boat as TDS. I was first told that I missed the first allocation and would be in the second set, but my car has already been offloaded at Port Hueneme (sp?). And it's green.

Of course I'd prefer the JDM white, but what can you do...

I got my "Your VIN has been assigned" email yesterday (6/17). My order date was 2/21, same as zoom44. I also got the "factory accepted the order" email on the same day as zoom44 and elara, so you guys should be getting your VIN soon! Hopefully we will be getting our cars soon!:D

Nordic Green Is such an awesome color, after a lot of thinking I would definetly get an 8 in this color because the color is so cool and its probably going to be the rarest color.

<<Nordic Green Is such an awesome color, after a lot of thinking I would definetly get an 8 in this color because the color is so cool and its probably going to be the rarest color.>>

Except for perhaps our friends in Japan, nobody has actually seen Nordic Green on an actual RX-8, so it's hard to be absolutely certain how they will turn out. If it looks like I think it will based on the few photos and website sample colors (which really only give a rough indication of shade and hue) I think it will look really good, which is why I chose it.

I actually found it surprising that it was the least ordered color. It's all a matter of taste, though, since I find the grey and silver (very popular it seems) rather unexciting. But I'm certainly happy with the less common color; I'm not buying an RX-8 to be like everyone else on the road.

If I was going to get a different color, it would be the Nordic Green.

Look forward to seeing one in person, as my dealership has one coming with my Winning Blue in the 1st pre-order group.

the nordic green is very similar to the emerald green on my '99 protege. Coincidence?? maybe. But it seems the nordic green is a slight bit darker. It's pretty cool cuz my car goes from green in the day to almost black at night.

sgc could be right,i had ordered my car from dealer allotment a couple weeks ago and we changed the color to blue from red and took off rear spoiler.he got conframation within minutes for the change.in the mean time i also got my vin on 6/17 and budman ran the vin and found the car was back to red with all the original options.my dealer talked to mazda rep and he said that alot of the changed cars werent getting changed and they were working on it.it looks like to me anyway that the vin i have will be made in red and that was my second choice so i will take it.the rep said as this progresses all preorders [people with there names actually in the system]will get there cars first and might be vin swaping to get all preorders cars the way we ordered them.

I hope my Nordic Green will be on the Florida shores by next week. It is on the first east coast ship to JAX and is supposed to dock at the earliest, this weekend! The order date was 1-15 and the build date was 5-27.

ibfubar perhaps you could run my VIN when you get a chance. Thanks in advance. And does "in transit" as opposed to "on water" mean it is now on a train or truck?

My dealer says they have my VIN, but he has to call me back on Monday because he can't access it. Hopefully, I'll have something then- I want my VIN run too!!!!

I am getting SO antsy about this car!

Pam, did you get the VIN email from Mazda as well?

Interestingly enough I can independently confirm at least part of the paint story. I was told by the sales manager that he was told by the factory rep that when they build the yellow ones they shut down the rest of the colors and only do yellow. We had a pretty long discussion about whether that would be good or bad in relationship to build date. My impression from the discussion was this was not true for all colors, just yellow.

Could have just been good salesmanship making me feel good about the color I chose having that extra uniqueness.

crap i want my VIN...my dealer is sooo bad, havent called me for ANYTHING, and last time i went in, about 2-3 weeks id say, the guy was completely cluless to accessories, so couldnt add 6cd and MD that i wanted, and they said that they didnt have any VINS for any of the cars, so i have no idea whats going on down there...

anyway, im hoping to get a VIN ASAP and i wanna add those accessories ASAP also

Poo,

So, where is "your location"? Where do you live - it's not in your user profile.

If your on the West coast, your vehicle could be here already or on the second boat. If you are on the East coast, you could be on their first boat.

The dealership could end up surprising you, in a few weeks, and say that your car is here for pickup. :D

The VIN email came from Mazda about 4 days after I got it from the dealer, but was constantly calling them during that time. They wanted me to get off their backs. The build email came shortly there after.
