i've just installed my aftermarket headunit where the cupholder is. the faceplate is installed on the cupholder, while the body of the unit is placed under the seat. The installers were among the most experienced and professional people i've met in Malaysia. They have already installed 3 Rx8 with the face unit on the cupholder and i have to say, they're really excellent. I will post more pics soon.

dam thats a first...how's the clearance?

The clearance is just good since the volume knob is low and i can slide the cover back to hide the unit. Real neat and these guys did it very professionally. not a single drill!
