View Full Version : Long Island Driving Experience?
BoxedUp 03-07-2005, 09:57 PM After researching the crap on the RX-8, I'm really enthused about it. Test drives don't give you a true representation of the the driving experience. I try to avoid rush hour traffic as much as I can and today, making good time back to the Island from Westchester, I tried to imagine the trip in the RX-8. I paid close attention to the road conditions and even though we're coming out of a harsh winter, the road surfaces really suck. Of the praises I have read about the handling of the 8, how does it translate to the real road conditions of Long Island. Thanks in advance for your honest impressions
chrism 03-08-2005, 05:05 AM i live in jersey and travel into new york quite often....the car is not too bad....its a smooth ride for the most part but if you have the 18's with the 6mt and short side walls on the tires it can be a bit bumpy...not all that harsh though....im happy with mine....and you would have more fun when the grand central/northern state get curvy than the lie....the clutch is also one of the friendliest i have driven...ill put it to you this way....ever had to get into the lincoln tunnel at 37th street during rush hour?.....i didnt get any fatigue from it!
BoxedUp 03-08-2005, 07:10 AM Thanks for reply. I am definitly considering the 6MT and that was the primary reason for the post. I'll probably avoid the LIE like the plague.
chrism 03-08-2005, 07:12 AM its not that bad once you get used to the clutch (which took me about 15 minutes)....but i can assure you the car is fun!
Mugatu 03-08-2005, 07:55 AM I drive long island everyday with no problems, and I have had the car since AUgust 2003. I drive the LIE sometimes, and occasional stop-and-go traffic.
Shocka 03-08-2005, 02:23 PM it can be annoying in Long Island with the traffic, but I do get to go on Wantagh, Ocean or Robert Moses when I wanna have a lil fun. But locally its a blast especially in Areas like Brookville, old Westbury, CSH, which have nice curvy roads.
I live in hicksville and have a friend that lives in huntington I always take Woodbury rd ALL the way there cuz tis just that fun of a drive.
mugatu: have you come to any of the LI Meets?
Boxed: get it.. youll enjoy it.where in long island do you live?
BoxedUp 03-08-2005, 10:19 PM I'm in Old Bethpage, just north of the State Park

dbyrd3130 04-03-2005, 09:54 AM i live in ct and drive i-95 to work every day during the week. it is not bad going in at 5:00a but the trip home can take 1 to 3 hours! clutch is not too bad. yesterday makes up for my commute though...drove to lime rock racetrack in nw ct. found myself doing 90+ up rt 8 into litchfield in the rain!!! i love this car!
vdelvec 04-03-2005, 11:39 AM My stock O.E. Dunlops handle admirably in any kind of rainy environment. Now, it's that crap they call snow that really makes driving a chore (without snow tires).
