I just got wireless Comcast highspeed internet (Cable) but am having problems with the connections to the internet with my laptop. I am using a LINKSYS router. The highspeed internet access to my desktop computer works great. However my laptop says the network connection is unavailable sometimes and other times it will connect but the connection is super slow, thereafter I lose the connection after like 15 minutes or so, and I'm back to not being connected again. HELP!!! .. this is a brand new laptop that has wireless capabilities already built into it. Anyone have similiar problems like this and have you found any solutions?

Is your wireless "open" or do you have it setup to be secure?

Hard to say really. Have you tried your laptop elsewhere like at work or a friends house do you still loose connection?
What kind of wireless card is in the laptop?
How strong is the signal from your linksys router?
Do you have any other wirless devices you could try with the linksys?
This way you can narrow down the problem to either the router or your laptop?
Also see if there are updated drivers for the wireless card in your laptop, and updated firmware for your Linksys router.
Also check the respective knowledgebases from Linksys (cisco) and your laptop manufacturer, this may be a known problem that they have a solution too?
Check any power saving measures that may be enabled on the laptop? is it going to sleep while your away and losing connection?
That's all I can think of for now.

You might also want to check if it is interference from other routers or 2.4 Ghz devices. Most routers default to channel 6 so your neighbors' routers may be interfering with yours. Also 2.4 Ghz portable phones and microwave ovens use the same frequency. See if your laptop wireless has a utility which shows you the available networks and the relative signal strengths. If there are other routers on the same channel as yours, use your router configuation utility to set it to either 1 or 11. That should keep interference to a minimum.

I had this same issue...
Here is EXACTLY what you need to do to get it working...
To start the Wireless Zero Configuration service, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type %SystemRoot%\system32\services.msc /s, and then click OK.
2. Double-click Wireless Zero Configuration.
3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.
4. In the Service status area, click Start, and then click OK.

i always thought that WZC was automatic and you had to set it to manual or disable?

No, for some reason a lot of laptops have a default setting of manual. Don't know if this is a change that was made in a service pack or other update because mine worked great for quite some time then all of a sudden it was manual for start-up.

I use my laptop more than my desktop nowadays because it is just more convienent. I am having a stupid problem where my connection keep fluctuating it strems at 11mbps(bwireless) and than if I open anything that involves bandwidth it goes from 11 to 5.5 to 1.0 mbps and than I can't do anything. I just gotta leave it alone for 10 seconds and it comes back. Anyone know what is causing this? I was thinking its the connection inbetween the laptop and the rounter. I don't think that is the problem because it says the connection is very good to good. I have tried switching my channels but i guess i gotta go though all of them until i find something i that will really work. Bah im too lazy!
