Mitsubishi will pay you $100 if you test-drive one of their cars and end up purchasing a competitors car. I figure an extra $100 will come in nice for those RX-8 accessories. The only thing is that you have to purchase a car 21 days or less after you test drive the Mitsubishi. I'll be putting the fear of God into a Mitsubishi salesman with an EVO test-drive in a couple of weeks :D.

By the way, I like MGD.

The EVO doesn't qualify for the 0% financing but it's a go for the test drive.

I think this promotion is destined for failure and will just push people towards competitors for that quick cash. They have ok cars, I used to drive a '98 galant back in the day and I was pretty happy with it, but now, most of their designs are looking like sh!t. The only car they have that's worth it is the EVO since they got rid of one of my faves, the 3000GT VR4.

Hmm, looks like it;s a bit of a hassle just for $100 dollars. Especially having to deal with a sales guy. But I'll probably do it anyways. I tired of the mitsubish commercials they play on the radio here.

Urk- Misubishi is just asked for trouble with all the stuff they've done recently- the whole 0, 0, 0 thing is a huge scam for idiots, and now this- they're just begging to lose tons of money.

well, not really, although its possible
see, even if they give out 200 of those 100 dollar bills, thats 20,000, however, if they sell even ONE car from that, they are still making a profit of at least 1k, so mathematically it works.

and only 1/200 is good odds that itll happen

It's actually not to bad of an Idea, because most people who car shop aren't dead set on a car, and if they get first crack at you, they have a good chance of selling you a car. This offer is only good for people who are serious about buying a car with in 21 days. Otherwise, they don't have to pay up. Plus there is some paper worked involved, and most people don't want to hassle with that.

I have my .02c worth on the 'On Monday' thread, but thought I'd take this back to 'on topic'. Has anyone else done the Mitsu test drive? Get the form filled out at the dealer, or told to come back later? Anyone allowed to drive the Evo? The dealer here said what someone else was told, no Evo test drive unless you are basically buying the car. Interesting way to sell cars - guess they don't want to put a lot of demos out there.

i agree it is wrong to make the buyer sign paperwork before a test drive. but i think it is to keep non-buyers to just going on joy rides and wasting the salesmens time thogh i am sure there is a better way to handle it then tell the customer no test drive. that is just stupid. maybe this is anpther good thing to call mits customer service about and tell them you wanted to buy one but the dealer wanted you to do paperwork first and you wanted to test drive first to make sure you liked it. so mits just lost a deal because the salesman made you feel a lowlife that didnt know what he was doing. here is the mits customer service number; 1-800-222-0037 i really recomend to call them and tellt hem about the horrible sales service you guys got because it is not right, and im sure mits corp would love to hear about it!

I test-drove it at two different dealers on the same day. A demo model really should be in at least the larger dealers. The test-drive can really sell this car so it would be a smart business move.

I went to the Mitsu dealer today with my form and they basically said oh yeah here we will fill that out you don't need to take a test drive, etc.

I did drive the Eclipse GTS just out of curiosity and bleh talk about uninspired. A base Jetta GL handles FAR better (took a bumpy sweeper and the chassis was all over the place). Engine for a 3.0L was very boring as well.

Oh well I got my form filled out and got the chance to see what a new eclipse is like, alls well in the end.

I got to tool around in an evo for a mile or 2. Quite inspired, but I just can't get over how fugly it is and how poor the interior is... "but it has a manual water cooler, see! look at the switch" ugh.

Test driving a vehicle you aren't even remotely interested in and dealing with a car salesman more than is absolutely necessary seems like a lot of trouble to go to for $100. My time is worth more than that to me.

However, if you're actually interested in a Mitsubishi it's very little extra effort at all.

Just my $.02.

I was going to do it at first. I even went to the mitsu dealer but I backed out. When the salesman approached me, I told him I was just looking, he kept on talking so I turned around and walked away. Two hours of me saying "NO you dumb bastard, i never intended to buy that hunk of flaming poo, I just wanted $100" isn't worth it. It would be a different story if it were $1000.

it is worth every cent of the price imo. it gives you supercar performance for 30k (you only need to settle with the econobox looks).

I went in and test drove the Eclipse also. Nice, but doesn't compare to the 8. I don't know about super sport car performance, but it's a nice car I guess. The salesman didn't even try to sell the car. Just agreed to let me test drive it, filled out the paper thing for the $100, and said have a nice day. Not the least bit of pressure. Oh well, my gain. $100 for 20 min of my time.:D

Will see if the 4-6 weeks holds.
BTW, most of the Mistu sales guys gathered around my RX-8 when I pulled in to get the final fields filled on my form; gave a ride in it to my salesman - he loved it. He may even end up selling Mazda's some day. Sometimes efforts like this may help convert some from the dark, I mean, piston, side.
