For me my favorite engines would be the B18C1(integra Type R) and the LS6(Z06) for its reliability and power.

If only they could get some more power out of it ... then Renault would kick butt.

All 4-cylinder's from honda because they 30+ mpg's. And they last up to 300K+ miles. Rotary Engine, because there so darn smooth, and quite and reliable (without stock twin turbos) n' FAST.

H-E-L-L-O?! is this an RX board or what?

The Mazda 4rotor that won the Le Mans in the 787B? The R26B.

http://www.ne.jp/asahi/paper-m/yasu/99-zatsuki/mazda-r&d/4.jpg

449 lb-ft @6500 rpm
700hp@9000 rpm

Peripheral intake ports (as well as exhaust ports) 10.0:1 compression ratio. Two-piece silicon nitride ceramic apex seals. Variable length intakes, port fuel injection.

While the 787 may not be at SevenStock (http://www.sevenstock.org) this year, there should be another 4rotor or two. Come on out and feel the power of this engine. There is nothing on earth quite like the sound of a 4rotor.

Yep that be Numero Uno, Dan. :D

Runner-ups:
20b 3-rotor
Rolls-Royce Merlin in a P-51 Mustang *Drool*
4.6L SVT Cobra (hand-built by 12 guys in Michigan. Ever hear a V-8 sing to 7k rpm?

Ducati 998cc 90 degree V-twin; because it's different (no valve springs), because it's powerful and torquey, but most of all, because it's Italian automotive aural pleasure at its finest.

Looks like a Z-car motor. 240?

My favorite engine? I fell in love with turbo rotaries some time ago. Smooth and powerful.

dang. R26B... good one Dan, i'm just a late-comer.

anyhoo, second favourite: 13B-REW
third: RENESIS (<- really hoping the dowls and bolts are an improvement... some lower compression grind on the rotors, some good portin' and a turbo... *shiver* COULD be the next-big-thing for RX's)

coolest engine Space Shuttle!!!
SRB = 3.3 million lbs thrust
Main Engines = 1.2 million lbs thrust

Worlds most efficient engine...nano-motor running on ATP synthase. And guess which motor design they based this cellular model off of...drumroll please....ROTARY!! It's the equivelent of turning a 200ft propeller at 10,000 rpms!!!

a 4 rotor engine produces one of the most wonderful sounds.

second would be the ferrari/maserati v8 engine that is found in the 430 scuderia.

Although I like petrol engines, and the Wankel is in the first price, for the city drive I am in alot, I preffer turbo dieseled engines. They have torque, and this new bigger ones, they just kick ass from one traffic light to another :)

my classification is based on sound...

piston: Ferrari V12 F1 you can't imagine the sound of that engine ALIVE... go under your skin and shake you soul....

rotary: 4 rotor 787B ....awesome....

real world:
-Honda 1,6 vtec of 90's
-V6 Alfa (the original one.. not this current GM)
-Corvette v8 (sorry, i don't remember/know wich one..)

I have a TDI right now... they're nice, but the narrow powerband don't make them nearly as fun as a rotary.

1) 24b (Scoot RX7)
2) V10 (Porsche Carerra GT, Lexus LFA, Viper... any of them -- manufacturers need to put more V10's in cars)
3) BMW inline 6 (E36 M3 comes to mind)

-Corvette v8 (sorry, i don't remember/know wich one..)

That would be the LSx Engines( LS1, LS2, LS3, LS7, ect...) All basically the same block but with different variations of bore and stroke. Probably my favorite engine as well. Cheap, Reliable, huge power potential and easy to work on/upgrade. Nothing like the sound of an LSx with a big bumpy cam, longtubes and some good exhaust :)

A Nissan VG30DETT smooth , powerful, can rev to the hills.
On the fence about the VQ35, powerful yes and very torquey motor, but smooth it is not , shakes like a truck motor.:o:

Mazda KZE found in Mazda MX-6/early Ford probes 93'-94' them bitches sound like Lemans type motors and are powerful and rev happy.

Nissan RB26, powerful, torquey and very smooth

Mazda 13B ,20B , 26B, for obvious reasons...:worship:

Toyota 3SGTE 3rd gen motor for the Mr-2 turbo, baddest 4 banger out there! Extremely powerful and efficient.

LS6, LS7 beast of motors, enough said.

Hondas J series motors, sweetest V6 around, powerful and smooth , to bad there usually mated to a garbage transmission from Honda

Talk about a thread revival!!! Im a huge rotary guy so---

1. 26B 4 rotor
2. 20B 3 rotor
3. 13B-REW
4. 13B-MSP
5. Honda's b-series vtec motors --- I've built a few so I can't talk smack about these.

Yes I put the REW before the Renesis, I love that motor. My friend had an FD that I did all the reliability mods and service on so he let me drive it pretty much whenever. It was stock (he didn't modify it since he had no money to tune it) but it was fast and always put a smile on my face.

1: Toyota 4A-GE 16v. Not the most powerful 1.6L or the most supported, but when opened up, nothing else sounds like it.

2: Honda C30A/C32B. Another great sounding engine. Utilized Honda's best technologies and know-how back in the day. Also, unique for a V6 as the banks are separated by 90 degrees rather than the usual 60.
