...once the cars get here?

It's going to be interesting reading driving impressions and finding out who takes delivery, who doesn't, etc. Will Hercules change his mind and get a G35c? Will Don be blown away and do something stupid, buying another car and filling his driveway? Who will total the first RX-8, and what will the crash pictures look like? What will the fuel economy be like? Any surprises like my G35 pads going in a year?

I was thinking last night what a great little group this is as we have become friends as we talk cars. Definitely a "guy" thing, the obsession with toys... I see it on the wristwatch, photography, and electronics forums, too. I hope everyone keeps coming back and chatting, whether or not you buy an 8 or not. It would be too bad if the group just dissolved and went our separate ways once the cars are here and the buzz is over.

This forum like will continue to be the best place for info about the car. Certainly the new 8 owners will stick around to get valuable insight on how everyone elses 8's are holding up.

yeah im sure we will all talk and chat about our cars. heck i can see the threads now:
my first speeding ticket. the first accident. my first arrest for racing a cop. our different mods. our fastest speed. our nice long drives down the coast. there will be lots to talk about in the future...

Should turn into a helpfull forum, just like other forum for cars that are released.

Inexpensive DIY mods will probably be posted. Info about things you didn't know existed on the car, tricks and tips, and of course boasting and questions :)

Don't forget a first report on how comfy and accessible the rear seats are.. if you know what I mean.. ;)

We are going to need a gallery section and the bandwidth to support it all. I think the forum is going to increase in traffic once people start to see the car on the streets. I expect a ton more activity then the past month has indicated

Don - good thread to start! I certainly will remain, as I want to compare my driving experiences with others.

Will those with automatics like the power, trying different tire / wheel combinations, bugs being worked out, what RENESIS issues first pop up.

Everything depends on that first drive... my dealer has been pretty lienient in letting me go for a lil bit with the car, so hopefully the same will apply here.

Yeah, I going along for the ride since I won't be getting the car like I originally planed this fall, or next spring, but now in 3-5 years ...

:p

I might become more of a lurker ... only poping up to request Mazda to bring out a fastback-hatchback model with more rear trunk space ... or some kind of hybrid/energy efficient rotary engine ... and also (as an optional if it can’t be standard) a complete fully functional gage display pack that clearly and accurately shows the normal and abnormal state of things with regards to: engine temperature, voltage/battery (Hey Mazda, there's room right now for a voltage/battery gage that will fit tastefully in the dash by the oil temp gage ...and as of now it's IMHO sorely missing) and oil pressure with an analog speedometer (or some kind of digital indicator that replaces the swing of the needle- maybe some kind of horizontal bar graph underor above the digital speedometer readout screen or else a digital light ring around the edge of the tach gage)!

:D

That's going to be a good story ... since the RX-8's backbone should make it interesting for the human backbone...

I forgot, did some one mention that the front seats fold flat?

if the 8 is half as fun to drive as a Miata...and my thinking is yes...then we will all be here right after our first drive, our 2nd drive, and so on. Look at the Miata Forum. Those people over there are true enthusiasts. and they have been going strong forever. that is the best forum on the Net. This forum is new, but it has a similar "feel" as the MiataForum does.

take care

I think the forum will go quiet for a week or two while everyone is out driving their 8, then we'll all be back to post stories and driving impressions. I know I'll be trying to hack the nav system to play dvds and I'll be the first to post if I find a way to do it. Depending on how the car drives and what needs to be tweaked, I'm definitely going to need help tuning a couple of things.
