My dealer just sent me a rotor shaped silver watch and engraved on the back is the history of the rotary. The letter with it says " We would like to thank you for your patience on the arrival of your RX-8. We were hoping that by this time the RX-8 would be here and we all would be enjoying this fantastic vehicle. As a sign of our appreciation for your loyalty and letting us at Mazda South serve your automotive needs, we are sending you this small token."

This is on Mazda South letterhead so I don't think it is another gift from Mazda corporate. What a great dealership.

hey Colin

i was wondering if there is any indication that the watch face is real carbon fiber? from your pics. it seems to have that "weave" effect of CF.

also, is the movement quartz or is it 'automatic'? sorry...kind of a watch guy.

thanks for the info, if you have it.

take care,

santino

It's quartz.
The three small dials are, from left to right, Day, 24-hour hour, and Date.

Man that is so cool of your dealer to do that. My dealer does not give a crap. I guess I will have to find one on Ebay

thanks Eccles!

i was hoping that the watch might be made by a reputable company...like Seiko (they made a matching his/hers watch for the 10th Anniversary Miata). then the price would be justifiable, if it were over $150.

either way, it looks good. nice design.

I went to school with a Mike Moran. How old is this guy and where is he from if you know? If it's him maybe I can get a watch.

I was told you can order them from Mazda for around 150. I also found this and the older style on the web (ebay and another site)for around 150.

Gotta Have it!

checked Ebay...the guy who is selling the watch says it is made by Seiko.
the older design is pretty neat too...the rotor housing one. but the new one is much nicer.

Good Morning All
Seems that there is some interest in the watches. checked with the parts dept and they can sell them for $130 + shipping. If you live in Texas there's also taxes. Email @ parts@mazdastuff.com if you want them. Quantities were limited if you are interested.

I sure hope the crystal on the new watch is better than the old one.

My wife bought me one with the older design (looks like a rotor housing with the rotor for the second hand) for Christmas this past year and within a week it was scratched up. By the middle of January, the crystal had a crack running through the middle :(

I have no idea how it happened only that the crack appeared somewhere, on a plane trip, between the US and the Bahamas.

Anyone know of a watch repair place that makes custom crystals...cheap?

since several of you posted pics, did you all receive the watch as a gift, or buy it, or just post a pic of it from another source? crossing my fingers... (to somehow get my dealer to bite on the idea)

It 's a gift from Roger Beasley Mazda South, in Austin, TX. & Mike Moran. Also know on here as budaman. Almost sounds like "You da man..." :D
