It's north of Bakersfield, as stated previously... I would say about a 3 hour drive (250 miles south) from the Bay area. Here's a map for you:

Not at all... think of it as a spirited drive on your favorite canyon road. If you push like REALLY hard, then you might wear your tires a bit, but for a beginner, you should be ok. ;)

can we change the group we're in if necessary once we get there?

No... you should set your GROUP now. If you feel you picked the wrong group, please e-mail the REDLINE guys ASAP. The groups run in very specific #'s, so they need to be set!

If you've never done a track day, you need to be in the BEGINNER group. No shame in that! If totally necessary, they will change your group there, but you should be set before.

I'd be interested in an emanage/piggyback tuning clinic for the 8. If racing beat is there, I'd like to hear about how their ECU project is going.

also maybe a clinic on suspension tuning if that has enough appeal.

Yes, the $10 is the gate fee Buttonwillow Raceway (SCCA - Cal Club Region) charges per car to enter the grounds. We will picking up the tab for all drivers participating and registered to drive the TRACK event. Courtesy of Heritage Mazda.

Yes sir... that's about right. We wanted to show a little appreciation for those that shelled out the bigger $$

We really wanted to pay for everyone, but the money we received from Heritage Mazda, was just enough to cover the track group.

Guys, if you have an option to go on the track, go! Its a nothing deal and lots of fun. I was just there last week (the only RX8). If you drive carefully, you can have lots of fun (and get passed alot -- who cares). Put air in your tires -- start at over 40 -- stock breaks should work if you have pads left (redstuff ceramics work great front and rear though) fun fun... great track!!

Ryan I saw your Veilslide kit. Where did you get it?

Razz1
05-08-2005, 12:28 AM
Man was that fun!

I saw a lot of wipe outs. The field was super muddy with pools of water.

Just got back from Button Willow.
Was consistently hitting 103+ on the track.
This time I participated in Intermediate class.

On the last session they put us with the big boys. Was with the pros that you see in NASCAR.
On the back end stretch we were hitting near 100 when all of a sudden there is a car facing us head on. (Of course it was a Silver 8)

We had just over one car width between him and the edge of the track where a there was huge wet muddy infield.
Five us just made it through the narrow gap.

Then the big boys started pushing me on the next lap.
Fortunatley it was hotter and Magic Mountain dried up a bit.

Pushed over the mountain and around the next couple of corners.

Next.......

We hit the hard right had corner AKA (Mazda hair pin), before the stretch of chicanes where speeds hit over triple digits.

I was trying to get more speed as our cars have so little torque you consistently have to down shift to second.

This time in 3rd I pushed so far with the big Boys on my tail that I went off the edge but quickly recovered.

Man you should have seen some of those guys fly.

It was fun participating with the Mustang Cobra and Super Charger on the track.

Actually I was behind you in a silver (you passed me) when you put two in the dirt. Quite a show! Did you see that blue Mazda 6? Wow he was banged up. Apparently at the beginning of the chicane... they said he hit a wall but i dont remember one there...

oh yea and the silver that spun on the back (bus stop) was the other one...glad i wasnt right behind him....

Razz1
05-08-2005, 02:29 PM
I heard there were the 4 off tracks on silver, 4 on the 3rd generation RX7's they were red.

My neighbor across the street was one of those in the Red seven. I passed him right after it happened.

I saw that banged up 6.

did you see that pink 7 with nitrous drifting down the straights?

zoomed
05-08-2005, 02:53 PM
Oh yea. So that was deal -- nitrous. That would explain it. Seems like half the time I heard tire squeal, there was the pink rx7. I was behind him once when he went sideways in the Mazda turn but he stayed on the track unfazed.

Speaking of drifting, I thought they were setting up a drifting area or exhibition but I dont remember seeing it, did you?

Hey fanman I think I saw your car at the Mazfest. Did you have your air filter out in the open and not enclosed?

Yep, it has the open blue Greddy Airinx filter. That is the way it comes in the turbo kit. No current enclosed housing, but I will be trying to fab up an enclosure from my previous Rotary Extreme casing to protect the filter/intake from engine bay heat.

05-10-2005, 03:45 PM
Hey everyone... Sorry took so long to reply back... I just got home from working a 48 hour shift. Anyway,

Razz1, I looked back at web pages and I believe I got it from www.intensepower.com. I got the kit almost a year ago and it was on sale for about 1,500$ and took about 5 to 6 months to get to the US.

Fanman, the side mirrors are carbon fiber Ganador mirrors. The actual rear view mirror is stock. I'll try to post a pic of the mirrors.

That car show/track day was sweet! I got to ride in one of the Rx-8 race cars. I'm not sure what mods were done to it. They redid the exhaust though as there was only 1 exhaust pipe.
