Jsh120 isn't a bad guy, he is just misguided in his principles, reasoning, and values sometimes. He is enjoyable to debate with.

Naaa, he calls me things sometimes...but I posted this as a positive story to counter the MANY negative ones that get posted here.

It's just part of his charm ;) HAHAHA

I look at it this way. His way of debate doesn't convince anyone to believe his side, but he does try alot. Someone DOES how ever have to take up his side of the discussion or it wouldn't be a progressive debate. Who better then him.

Coming from you, Jason, I can only conclude I must be even more correct than I assumed.

Always better to talk than not. A lesson that this administration has had a hard time learning. Much has been made of the "personal relationship" between Bush and Putin, but such "relationships" seldom mean much in the context of international relations. After all, King George, Kaiser Willhelm, and Tsarina Alexandra were all cousins. Didn't prevent World War I among their nations.

Bush will make pro-democracy noises, mainly for the benefit of the home folks and Putin will resist domination by the US for the same purpose. In the end each will deal with the other as necessary to protect their political interests.

I am still annoyed by his use of the word "nucaler" Hasn't anyone told him how to pronounce this word? Oh wait, you've got to be able to spell it first.

George! If you read this it's "nuclear"

I look at it this way. His way of debate doesn't convince anyone to believe his side, but he does try alot. By "way of debate," I assume you mean stuff like applying critical thinking, supporting your argument with verifiable facts from reputable sources, calling people out on logical fallacies, refusing to accept "feelings" as valid support for a position. That kind of stuff.

Come on, Claudius. You should know by now: if it ain't in the bible, you shouldn't talk about it, believe it, discuss it, or argue the point. Where have you been for the last four years.

I would respond but for what...you don't know a THING about me and comments like that just goes to show you....and I'll leave it at that...

It always ends the same, your source vs my source, and a lack of honesty about things. When you use the accepted logic of another person, when you present them with a sanario that shows a problem that makes it's invalid....they go and qoute some guy with a nice title that stated the same logic in a different way while not proving or working on the problem presented.

FLAME away...I"m learning little by little about forums, I just have to be better prepared...and that's my fault.

FLAME away...I"m learning little by little about forums, I just have to be better prepared...and that's my fault. Friend, don't assume the previous comment was directed specifically at you. In fact, given the reference to "the last four years," I suspect it was directed generally toward some of the major supporters of the current administration.

You're certainly correct that debate in forums like this is a messy process with few clear rules, much like life. That doesn't mean, however, that everyone's "source" is as reliable or that everyone's logic is as valid as another's. You're also correct that a "nice title" doesn't, in itself, prove the validity of an argument. As you've seen, arguments based on faith in an authority are often viewed as dubious. (Hint: Before accusing someone of a logical or factual error such as argument from authority (a logical error), apply the same standard to your own argument.)

It's hopeful that you're "learning little by little about forums." What you may discover is that the search for "truth" inevitably involves the sort of debate that appears to make you uncomfortable. Hopefully, "little by little" you're becoming more comfortable with that process and can apply it outside the bounds of this forum.

In any event, I, for one, am happy to have you around this place. :)

You need varying and opposing viewpoints to make a forum worth reading.

That's why this forum is so much better than, well, you know.

We don't circle jerk here. And that's the way (most of us) like it.

Putin made no specific mention of Bush’s expression of concern about his commitment to democracy.

“I must say that on practically all questions we have very close positions,” [Putin] said

Wannahave, I bet this seems great for all of the people who don't support Bush. One more world leader out there who thinks like him ;).

Some of his statements do make sense. I personally hadn't heard of him until you mentioned it, but our foreign policy of looking at the short term has created blowback that has come and back and hit us. Should we really be suprised? Our lack of long range plans for Iraq has not gone well with me. However, I don't think the 9/11 victims were little Nazis.
