But up until today, I didn't have a job to pay for the car.
A few weeks ago I announced I got a position, which I can now specify was at Schering Plough, the pharma company. Sadly that position fell thru and I was left jobless.
I didn't really want to post that, didn't want those negative 'vibes.' So since then, I'd been looking for a job. After 250+ resumes and cover letters sent out... today was my lucky day.
I woke up early to go to an employment agency. I got back from there around 11am and got a call from some "Caxton Associates".
Some background first.. I applied to the job some time ago as an alumni of my school forwarded a letter to our Dean and wanted some Seton Hall Grads! So I put together a cover letter, forwarded my resume, and just forgot about it. Naturally when you're in the search of a job, you can't remember all these companies... specially when you've had no success in almost three months and like I said... 250+ applications.
So anyway... on the end of the line, this person asked me if I could come in for an interview. I was psyched! I was not free until Wednesday and thus we made an appointment.
Fifteen minutes later I got a call back and he was rather insistent that I come in *today*. I skipped out on my errands and chores (the grass will be 10 feet tall when I cut it tomrrow), and headed to New York City. Took the train, then a cab to 61st and Madison.
Now for those of you who are not familiar with NYC... 61st and Madison is in the heart of the "Financial District". Two blocks from Central Park, and an area too rich to imagine. I got into the building and went up to the 9th floor.
For some imagery... if you've seen Devil's Advocate, you know what I am talking about. The offices in the Devil's Advocate were luxurious and spendy.. I swear I walked into the same offices, minus the view.
I interviewed with three people. The first person told me about the company... it was a private hedge fund where the *minimum* entry to get in (by invitation only mind you), was $25 MILLION. Sheesh! The second person was the alumnus who wanted to see SHU grads. After probing me for a bit, he said "You have to meet with one more person, but as far as I'm concened, you have the job." The third person comes in and says "He already offered you the position right?" I say "yea." He concludes... "what the hell am I doing here then?" We had a small chat and a few laughs, and I was walked out by the SHU alum.
I could not wipe the stupid grin off my face. All I could think was not the money, the prestige of the position, etc.. The RX-8 is mine :)
So folks... you can officially say that you know somebody "who works on Wall St." While I'm not *on* Wall St., this is a Wall St. firm and a big and prestigous one at that. It's a hike from my house... but hey... if they pay for my car and other goodies... who am I to complain!
So today is a happy day!
