Just received the just been built e-mail.

Hello MARK,

We are happy to inform you that the factory has completed production on your 2004 Mazda RX-8—the car Edmunds.com described as "...more willing at high rpm than even Honda's S2000 because of the rotary's phenomenal smoothness."

Your RX-8's Production Date: 20030527
At present, your Mazda RX-8 is being shipped from our Hiroshima plant in Japan to your local destination port. In about 3-8 weeks, depending on where you live and shipping schedules, the port will release your car and it will be on its on the way to the dealer! We'll let you know as soon as that happens so that you can make arrangements to pick it up.

In the meantime, if you haven't already done so check out the
3D Performance Tour on the Web site, it's truly a unique interactive experience.

20030530 for me...

Mazda has done a great job of sending out these e-mails just like they said, even though we know some of them are a bit late...

I am still wondering how in the world this has happened..

YAY! 20030530 for me.

Interesting:
"In about 3-8 weeks, depending on where you live and shipping schedules, the port will release your car and it will be on its on the way to the dealer! We'll let you know as soon as that happens so that you can make arrangements to pick it up. "

I'm surprised they'd estimate anything as low as 3 weeks.....

Why should it take up to eight weeks sitting at a port before loading on a ship. The cost of that inventory just sitting around is crazy. Maybe Mazda should turn their shipping over to FedEx!!!!!

05-23-2003 for my car (VIN ending in 1155). That's the earliest US build date I've seen so far. Also, I've been noticing that all of the automatics are low VIN's but not early build dates. I wonder where the VIN cutoff is.

I read it a little differently. The way I understood it is that the cars are in transit and will be released from port within 3-8 weeks, which would make the 3-8 weeks transit and port time....

The 3 weeks is if you made the first boat. The 8 weeks allows time for a second and/or third wave of shipping. My car is built but I know it didn't make the first boat. Thats puts my car arriving at my dealer in 6-8 weeks I figure. Still no word on the next slow boat from Japan.

How can I find out if it made the first boat or not?

Give your dealer your VIN and ask them to look up the status. Transit code 10 = New VIN, still at port.
Transit code 20 = On water

I got mine.

05-30-2003.

Does that mean, the car is in transit?????

I've always assumed I was part of the 2nd allocation, since my order was finalized sometime in February.

Would this make me part of the first allocation???? Did anyone from the 2nd allocation get this email????

I'm getting EXCITED........:)

Probably not. I'm supposedly first allocation but I have the same build date as you. My car is still at port in Japan....

I don't really believe the e-mail (seems like standard text) - it will probably make the boat this weekend if one is leaving then.

I guess the question now becomes when will the cars built 06/02 or 2nd allocation ones will get here. I'm interested if prulicidor's car is on water. I don't know if I can assume mine is going to be in that bunch (last five of VIN: 02626). My sequence # is up there, but I still hope for the best.

My dealer also has the first preorder (the original one that was ordered for me) scheduled for arriving 3rd week in July. I'll try to get the last 4 on that VIN as well, just for reference sake.

I tell you for sure your car is still in Japan. I have a vin number almost 1000 below and its still there. I believe the first boat to leave was for the East Coast so they had to be on board even easier. Sorry for the bad news. I keep waiting for some word on when the next ship sails for the US.

It is standard text and it is all true. The car is no longer at the factory its sitting at the dock in their shipping division/companies hands. 8 weeks gives them time to load a sail another boat (hopefully this weekend) and still get it to the east coast in time to distribute.

Based on this thread http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5342 it appears the boat left on 6/4 or 6/5, so perhaps some of the cars with 5/28- 6-/2 possibly made it on the boat eventhough the VIN status is showing as NEW???

I think we in the UK will be waiting a month or two for such e-mails.

We live in hope......

Mine shows "on Water" as early as 6/1 maybe earlier but that is the printout the dealer had. I would think that means "left the port".
