View Full Version : Silver or black?
DaveL 06-04-2003, 03:28 PM Anybody out there consider silver or black before making a final decision. I like red but I've always had red sports cars (currently own a '93 RX-7) so I am trying to break away from that color. I've got it down to silver and black. Anyone see both and care to lend an opinion?
Also, I wish Mazda offered a "tan" leather interior like the
RX-7. I don't really care for black or red and to me the brown/black combo doesn't look to great either. I am choosing between the black or black/red since I don't have much of a choice. What did those who bought a black or silver choose for an interior?

rxeightr 06-04-2003, 03:49 PM I considered Black, but knew I could not devote the time in keeping it clean.
RotorGeek 06-04-2003, 03:51 PM Get the Ti-grey. It's between the Black and Silver
DaveL 06-04-2003, 03:59 PM I considered titanium but I really don't care for a blueish tint which it seems to me that color would have. It's either black on black/red or silver/black. Keeping the black clean doesn't bother me because I figure I'll be washing the car all the time anyway. Besides, I don't by the "it's hard to keep a black car looking clean" comments anyway.
Black...after seeing a G35c and a RAV-4 in both silver and black, the black always looks more classy, elegant, and luxurious...the silver looked more sporty, fun, and edgy...plus silver and black (rims, rotary accent, exhaust finisher) look better than silver and silver
dreamgetter1 06-04-2003, 04:07 PM silver with black/red leather, IMO the silver shows off the car's lines better.
TreknMazda 06-04-2003, 04:11 PM DaveL,
As you can see in my Avatar, my RX-7 is black. It will be 18 years old in September. I debated whether I wanted another black car or not. I "built" a blue one and a black one on the RX-8 website in January. Yellow was flat out. Red, although pretty, is too much of a target (tickets and crashes) in my opinion.
In the end, I decided I have been very happy with black and will continue the color lineage I started in '85. The pictures on the web of black/red leather did not impress me, so I am getting all black.
And one very important change I am making on the Black RX-8... the amber side markers will be replaced by the clear/white side markers! Here is one of the early pictures that convinced me I made the correct choice.
brothervoodoo 06-04-2003, 04:13 PM Black under the "best" conditions always seems like a winner. But the effort needed to keep it so, is something you need to figure out for yourself.
Actually on the 8, black seems to hide some of the subtle curves of the car and does not accentuate some of the accents, such as, side vents, grills etc.. To each his own, I would have gone for the crazy yellow if they had offered a two tone interior for it.

i still got the yellow. but i agree it would have been nice to get the two tone interior like the early pictures kept showing. i was a little disappomted that they dropped that interior colors. but i still got the yellow. this will be my 4th yellow car!
brothervoodoo 06-04-2003, 04:31 PM The yellow is great on the 8 and not many people are choosing the color which is a plus. I was determined to get some type of two-tone interior, so I had to let it go.
Hercules 06-04-2003, 05:09 PM I'm getting black, because my car will be garaged 24/7... so relatively clean.
Besides I have a light color now, and I'm tired of it. Black is damn classy and sporty at the same time.

He beat me to it :D
the red accent with the black will spice up the interior abit on an otherwise all black surrounding
cheers..
Goldenhue22 06-04-2003, 10:14 PM Besides, I don't by the "it's hard to keep a black car looking clean" comments anyway. Well you should buy it becaue it is the truth. I had a black car and it should every little scratch, watermark, dirt, piece of lint etc..., it shows everything. I have vowed to never own another black car. And as previously said, it hides the lines on any car. I got red with red/black interior and I too would have gotten yellow if it had the 2-toned interior.
ELX13 06-05-2003, 12:38 AM i'm with u trek!
black is the way to go for me. i said it here (http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4915&perpage=15&pagenumber=2) and i'll say it again...u can't beat a clean black car! and dave...u SHOULD believe it...black cars are a beeatch to keep clean. take it from me and goldenhue.
that said...
i orginally had titty grey ordered but had to go back to my roots.

"Amistad". Directed by Steven Spielberg. Anthony Hopkins is in it. Can't remember the name of the main dude, but he's in "Gladiator". He plays the Namibian.
No applause folks; just throw money.
The first question I asked my dealer was, is the black finish available with the black red leather combo?
The answer at the time was definately not.
But mazda UK advise as of the 3rd June that they've changed their mind. Now both the red and black get the two tone.
Only problem is everyone i've showed the interior pics to thinks the two tone is tacky, so I'm sticking with my original black on black.
now i just need to get a stand pipe fitted in my garage for all that cleaning.
(sorry if this has already been covered on another thread)
oilman 06-05-2003, 03:47 PM Red's the stunner in my opinion.
My wife has a black Jeep Grand Cherokee, always dirty and looks so, 1 day after washing it!!
Cheers
