Like many members of our great forum here, I was happily awaiting the arrival of my RX-8 when I was unexpectedly informed by rx8orders that I'm not a member of the pre-order group. Despite having ordered my car via the Mazda website on Jan 8 and putting my deposit down on Jan 10, my dealer apparently did not submit my order as a pre-order, but instead as one of their allotted cars.
I've asked rx8orders a couple of times how this will affect me, but have gotten limited answers. Charlie did mention that he can probably get me the pre-order gifts, but in the meantime, I cannot check my VIN, I do not know at what stage my car is and I have no idea when it's arriving.
Despite these obvious frustrations, how else will those of us (Zoom44, I know you're in the same boat) be affected by this? Will our cars arrive later? Will there be ongoing events/announcements, etc. that only pre-order customers will receive? Are there special programs that Mazda sponsors only for its pre-order customers?
I've been so excited for this car for so long now, and it's all turning into a ton of angst because things didn't get handled correctly!

well my dealer and the mazda rep are supposedly working to get me the books and whatever other girts there will be. my car is supposed to be built sometime this week so i should see a vin soon with the car arriving in july. i am exactly where you are as far as angst. i mean i know the car is coming eventually but all this screwing up by the dealer is really annoying. i wish they had said 2 months ago that they didn't order the cars until Feb. 21st. i would have already been at another dealer. as it is i spent some time on the phone the last 2 days talking with other local dealers. one of them gave me a list of all the dealers in the NW who have cars in my specs ordered. after calling them there is only one more that still needs to get back to me if the car is on the water or not. the other 2 or 3 had the car in my specs not sold to anyone but were not on the water. if this last guy has one and it's on the water i will bail from my dealer and skip the gifts alltogether. or i will use it as leverage to see if my dealer will throw in the cd changer for free. i still have one more person up the food chain at my dealer to go to if this general manager says no. the owner it turns out is one of my company's customers so i will try him before bailing.
edit: i forgot to mention that one of the dealers i called was in washington. he told me that he was talking to his rep( a woman he has known for years and grew up in the area). she said that the port installed items are already amassing at the various ports so that everything will be in place when the cars arrive. she is helping to coordinate this. she also said the ports already have the inventory lists of all the cars that are to arrive on the inbound ships.

I hear ya. I really want to call my dealer and bitch them out about this, but I don't feel that I really have any justification for jumping ship on them if I'm not happy with what they have to say. I have spoken to another dealer in the area who will do what he can for me should I decide to go over there (although he doesn't currently have any cars in my spec available), but I don't have any ammo like "I'm not getting this, the car is getting here this much later, and I'll miss out on this" to hit my current dealer with.

I'm still confused by all this pre-order, web order, allotment stuff.
I put a deposit on a car on 5/13, but the car had already been ordered on 2/21 (same as zoom44). I was told I was in the 3rd allotment with delivery in late August. The estimated production date is JUN WK/1. So, it seems like it's in the same group as zoom44, yet he's expecting his car in July. I was told it takes 12 weeks from production to dealer. I gave the dealer my e-mail address, but now they say the system is backed up and they won't be able to put me in the system for 30-45 days. I have not gotten any e-mails, and I did not receive the book. Can anyone clarify any of this?

I'll join this club, as well. My dealer ordered me the wrong car (I wanted Touring and he ordered the GT w/nav). So now I'm stuck with a 2nd Allocation car with no idea when it's going to come in. I'm crossing my fingers for July, but I don't know. We'll see, but my patience is wearing thin.
