View Full Version : What's your definition of the meaning of life?
rotten42 02-02-2005, 04:47 PM So what does it all mean to you?...what gets you out of bed every morning?
The meaning of life to me is my kids...that's ironic conmsidering I had always told my parents that I would never have kids. I can't image what life would be like without them now.
..and my RX8, off course :D
93rdcurrent 02-02-2005, 04:50 PM rotten, I have to say that those are two gorgeous babies you have there. :)
I will stick with the Rosicrucian idea of evolution. We are here to help others move up on the evolutionary scale.

Ya, they get their looks from their mother :D
NomisR 02-02-2005, 04:52 PM Right now, it is just to simply get by day to day. Get up for work, drive my Rx8 :D, get off work, drive my Rx8 :D
93rdcurrent 02-02-2005, 04:53 PM Ya, they get their looks from their mother :DGood because I don't want anyone to get any weird ideas after reading the gay marrage thread. :D :p

ÜberJumper 02-02-2005, 04:55 PM In my opinion, we are driven by our DNA to pass itself on, in other words, to pass on our genetic code to our offspring. Doing our best to make sure our Genetic code survives is what it's all about.
So yes, our kids are our meaning of life. Having them, raising them, hoping they have a good life, so they survive, and further pass on their, and therefore our DNA.
globi 02-02-2005, 04:57 PM Hope that it will get better some day

That's the scientific version I guess.........here is the version from my gut:
before kids, I used to see the world in black and white, now I see it in bright colors.
ÜberJumper 02-02-2005, 05:03 PM I would also agree with that assesment. Everything in the world is brighter and more enjoyable with my daughter around.
The meaning of life to me is my kids...that's ironic conmsidering I had always told my parents that I would never have kids. I can't image what life would be like without them now.
I'm right with you on that one. I also told my parents I didn't want kids of my own, even though I was always close to my nieces and nephews. But having my own has been what has given me purpose, what grounds me, what makes even those lousy days worth getting out of bed, and what continually brings me more joy than I've ever imagined.
And I agree with 93rdcurrent - your kids are adorable!

thanks all. That was taken on our annual trip to Mexico.
My daughter scares me. She's a cutie! A friend of mine has 3 boys and as he puts it do me:
"I only have 3 dinks you worry about, you have thousands". :D
Razpewton 02-02-2005, 05:08 PM Life is an abstract term used to define the characteristics pertaining to the sum of the properties carried out by certain bodies called "living things." These bodies are great physical, neorological and chemical complexes.

These bodies are great physical, neorological and chemical complexes....each atom is a universe unto itself. The "living things" are multiverses that expand into the universe ad infinitum.

let's not let this turn into metaphysics 301. If it does, I'm going to have to crack open my old philosophy books from university.
MadRonin 02-02-2005, 05:16 PM So what does it all mean to you?...what gets you out of bed every morning? Well it certainly isn't children. It's actually pussy. Pussy gets me up in the morning. Unfortunately the pussy I speak of is named Clyde and Loki. They represet our two cats who will wail like banshees until they are fed at 4:30am.:p
I get out of bed because I have to go to work to make money to pay my bills so I can keep a roof over my head, food in my belly, and my RX-8 under my ass. :D
In other words, it's a means to an end. In between I enjoy spending time with my wife who is my partner and my best friend.
What motivates me to keep living and growing as a person is the chance to learn and experience new things. I'm as curious as a cat when it comes to most things, and I revel in trying figure IT out - no matter what IT may be.
On the subject of children, while I do agree that it is human nature to procreate in an attempt to advance the species, I see nothing wrong with practicing for the big game, but never actually getting there. ;) My wife and I both love kids - other people's kids. At the end of the day they can go back to mom and dad and we can go home and have sex in peace. :)
Feras 02-02-2005, 05:19 PM umm its obvious....42

Well put. Even the smallest living organisms "understand" this concept, but some humans have trouble with it.

I'm up with that..that's the whole point. Its different for everybody. I'm glad you started talking about your wife because If your motivation for living is simply to put a roof over your head and food on the table; that's existing not living.

I exist because my parents had unprotected sex. :p I live because I see no need to die yet. I have too much to do and accomplish. My wife is a huge part of my life; the best part of my life. She helps make life worth living. ;)
rx8wannahave 02-02-2005, 05:34 PM I think we are all just trying to figure things out and find our way back home. The thing is, ironic too, we can't figure it out on our own. We think and think, and think and study and study and study...yet with our long history we still are asking the same questions and repeating the same mistakes. Why, cause man keeps relying on everything but the only real source of the answer. Some are satisfied with this world...while others know there is more to life than the temporary and monotonous lives we live. Lucky for us...a baby was born named JESUS...
That is the purpose of life.
Nemesis8 02-02-2005, 05:35 PM Whenever life gets you down, Mrs. Brown,
And things seem hard or tough,
And people are stupid, obnoxious or daft,
And you feel that you've had quite eno-o-o-o-o-ough,
Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at nine thousand miles an hour.
It's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned,
The sun that is the source of all our power.
Now the sun, and you and me, and all the stars that we can see,
Are moving at a million miles a day,
In the outer spiral arm, at fourteen thousand miles an hour,
Of a galaxy we call the Milky Way.
Our galaxy itself contains a hundred million stars;
It's a hundred thousand light-years side to side;
It bulges in the middle sixteen thousand light-years thick,
But out by us it's just three thousand light-years wide.
We're thirty thousand light-years from Galactic Central Point,
We go 'round every two hundred million years;
And our galaxy itself is one of millions of billions
In this amazing and expanding universe.
Our universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding,
In all of the directions it can whiz;
As fast as it can go, that's the speed of light, you know,
Twelve million miles a minute and that's the fastest speed there is.
So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth;
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere out in space,
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth!
rotten42 02-02-2005, 05:36 PM ^ reality is that is the meaning of your life...not everybody's life.
My daughter scares me. She's a cutie! A friend of mine has 3 boys and as he puts it do me:

Just wait......it gets scarier! My daughter is 13, going on 25, and looks 17.

eskimo 02-02-2005, 07:02 PM A journey, not a destination.
No, no not the Steve Perry kind, silly.
I exist because my parents had unprotected sex.
Isn't it strange that the kind of sex that creates life is the notable exception? Probably just as well.
Paul_in_DC 02-02-2005, 10:48 PM You clueless heathens! The meaning of life is the search for
The Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie!
You clueless heathens! The meaning of life is the search for
The Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie!
I make the perfect chocolate chip cookie! But then, "perfect" is perfectly subjective, now, isn't it?
MadRonin 02-03-2005, 07:41 AM I make the perfect chocolate chip cookie! But then, "perfect" is perfectly subjective, now, isn't it?
I'll be the judge of that. Please send me a box of your finest and I'll get back to you upon consumption. :D
eskimo 02-03-2005, 08:27 AM I make the perfect chocolate chip cookie! But then, "perfect" is perfectly subjective, now, isn't it?
Objective is just a whole lot of subjectives put together. Send us all a box, and we'll take a poll. :D
Luftwaffle 02-03-2005, 09:29 AM My meaning of life:
Make things better.
It's probably a little oversimplified and idealistic. But, I'm sticking with it. :D
Paul_in_DC 02-03-2005, 09:36 AM I make the perfect chocolate chip cookie! ...
Then I shall travel to San Diego to sing your praises, oh anointed one!
Objective is just a whole lot of subjectives put together. Send us all a box, and we'll take a poll. :D
Damn......that's alot of cookies!
klegg 02-03-2005, 01:04 PM "Conan, what is good in life?
To crush your enemies, to drive them before you, and to hear the lamentations of the women....."
Spinning Sushi 05-22-2008, 06:53 PM Thread revival!
I figured that this is an interesting topic so it's time for a bump to the top. :)
tajabaho1 05-22-2008, 07:16 PM I live for the chaos and destruction of others
no joke
tajabaho1 05-22-2008, 07:17 PM "Conan, what is good in life?

Ironic.......I never thought I'd follow in his footsteps
05TiGr8Lady 05-22-2008, 07:55 PM What gets me out of bed every morning?
My dog.... he has to go outside and pee :lol2:
But seriously... my calling.... to help make things better on the planet, and help myself and others move up on the evolutionary scale.
Life - for me it's about living, learning, loving, and leaving a [good] legacy.
Taj....*shaking head*... how can you have the cutest bunnies EVAR and think about the destruction of others :uhh:
MazdaManiac 05-22-2008, 08:01 PM Life has no inherent meaning.
The only meaning it has is that which you give it.
tajabaho1 05-22-2008, 08:07 PM its because I do............just that way
:)

HeavyMetal699 05-23-2008, 12:04 AM My dad always said "Life is what you make out of it"
Now since I'm older and wiser I'd agree.
The meaning of my life changes frequently, but its whatever I make out of it at the time.

Easy_E1 05-23-2008, 01:23 AM There is no meaning to life except the meaning man gives to his life.
05TiGr8Lady 05-23-2008, 01:30 AM Well duh.... ;)
But what gets you out of bed in the morning? :)
Easy_E1 05-23-2008, 01:35 AM Well duh.... ;)
But what gets you out of bed in the morning? :)
I have the bed ejector. The alarm goes off and a second later I'm flung from my bed by a catapult system. Still working on the trajectory part of it.
At least there's a wall and not a window at the foot of the bed. :eyetwitch
05TiGr8Lady 05-23-2008, 01:43 AM Oh! I want one!
No seriously.... I'm sleeping on a mattress on the floor at the moment and it's a bitch to get up. (in between bedroom furniture :) )
tajabaho1 05-23-2008, 01:54 AM I bet for MM its a bad injector or an oil leak :)
