Planning to get the new RX-8, but it's just a question of when. Still can't decide on Velocity Red or Lightning Yellow. I've owned all three gens of the RX-7, and bought a '93 3rd gen when it was new back in '93. I loved that car dearly, but when the family came along, I was forced to trade it for a BMW M3. Now 10 years later, the RX-8 seems perfect. A light and agile rotary sports car with doors and seats for my two kids.
The only thing holding me back from placing an order now was the quality of my last '93 RX-7. The interior plastics had peeling problems, the hatch rattled, and one of the turbos kept going off line. I'm hoping that 10 years later Mazda got it right, but the RX-8 is an all new car, so we'll see. (My 1st & 2nd gen RX-7s were near perfect, can't recall a single problem.)
It's interesting that the Sports Car Compact review indicated that the proto car's high power ports were sticking and thus power peaked at about 6500 rpm. If C&D and R&T tested cars with similar problems and got 5.9 secs 0-60, that means that the production cars should have even better times.
Can't wait to get the new RX-8! Wonder if our friends in Japan have any comments about reliability yet?
