What's the trick, hair dryer heat or something similar? Scalpel, rib cracker, toenail clipper?

hair dryer and a piece of fishing line. be careful with the hair dryer. i actually didnt need a hair dryer when i got mine of- warm day parked in the sun did the trick.

also you could stop buy the dealer and tell them you are going to bill them for the advertising if they dont take it off- but then do you really trust them to not mess up your car while doing it?

I just peeled them off and wiped the glue off w/ Goop or Goo-Off. A piece of dental floss or fishing line can get the corners started so you can pull them up.

LOL, I politely asked my salesman to remove them when I picked up my car.
He said, it wasn't their policy to remove them from cars sold by them. He called it FREE advertising.

I pulled out a new spool of 4lb test STREN and a bottle of goo gone. He asked what I was doing, and I said, getting rid of the commercials on my car. I did offer to keep the stickers on the car for a period of one year for $3650.00, but he laughed and said it wasn't worth it. I dunno, $10.00 a day for advertising... didn't think it was that unreasonable, since it was almost a year before they sold any RX8s... maybe if they paid to keep those stickers on my trunklid, they'd have sold more 8's or sooner.

I always make the dealer agree to take them off before finalizing the deal. I'll make it a deal breaker if I have to, just on principle.

This has been my policy in the past, but with my *, it had not been on the lot long enough to have one put on. I asked that it not be put on while they were detailing it the day I bought it. They obliged. Rick Case uses these huge metal things, I have seen them on ohter 8's, and they are crooked, and sore on the eyes.

I guess I've been lucky with the dealerships that I've gone to. None of my cars ever had one. Although I've helped countless friends take of that stupid crap before.

I could be wrong, but I think dealer decals are virtually unheard of (or at least infrequent) here in California, where you and I are. They seem to rely on license plate frames for their "free" advertising, which is fine with me since it takes about 2 seconds to substitute my own frame. Have you seen dealer decals on California-bought cars?

I agree; I almost never see them here in CA. I always thought it was more of a right coast thing. I would be pissed if they did it to my car.

(Reminds me: When I was in high school, my buddy's dad had his Benz serviced at one dealership, and after every service they put a license plate frame on his car. He would throw it away, then the next time, it would be back on again.)

Hey, in the "good ole days" the dealerships used to drill holes in the trunk and bolt the damn things on even before asking permission. Now that was bad!

Buddy and I bought a couple of factory-moded sportscars one time back in ..ahem.. and the salesman begged us to let him put the metal plates on our cars. Told him we would do that if they would give us radios for the cars. In the "good ole days" a car radio was a luxury. That was before air conditioning a car was even thought of. :D

I had a sort of funny run in while looking at cars on e-bay with these dealer ads on cars.It was around 6-8 months ago,there was a guy in NY selling a 10th anniversary RX-7 that he claimed to be numbered.I looked at the pictures,and sure enough it had an oval number plate on the rear decklid next to the RX-7 sticker.The number plate said 128,and that was what the seller was claiming the production number to be.The funny thing is,around here(MA) a lot of Mazdas have the 128 logo on them,because it is the name of one of the larger Mazda dealers in the area.It is also the name of the state highway that the dealer borders,hence 128 Mazda.I contacted the seller,and told him the error of his ways,but he never did change the ad,and I bet the buyer thinks they have #128 of however many 10th anniversary edition RX-7's produced,that is until he heads up here to MA and sees another one zoom past him with the same tag.Oh yeah did I mention I hate those ad's on cars?My car has the license plate frame,and I don't mind it at all,but I would flip if they had drilled anything into my car.

The only one I ever saw that looked OK was in the DC area, there is a car dealer called "Acura West", and they got little "Wests" made in the same font, size, and material as the factory "Acura" badge so that you would have an "Acura West" Legend, I always thought that was cool. Somehow I don't think a "Santa Monica Lincoln Mercury Mazda Subaru RX-8" would be quite as cool. :)

I did the hair dryer, then WD-40 to get off the residue, then a cleaner to get the WD-40 off. Don't forget to wax the spot where the sticker was.

Deal breaker for me. My one pet peeve is those damn decals and logos. When I bought my 8 I promptly replaced the dealer plate frame with an RX-8 one...which promptly rusted, what a POS. I did the same for my dad's lexus's.

used a hair dryer to heat it up then put a piece of duct tape over a putty knife and scraped it off. The tape keeps it from scratching so its almost impossible to mess up this way. THen I just used goo-gone to get rid of the rest.
