Spoke to the sales rep at Bank St. last night when I picked up my Miata from its service department.
He drives an 87 RX7 and is pretty knowledgable about the 8.
The dealership is getting 7 - RX8s at the end of this month or next, but they will sit in the show room. You want one, you put your money down and get a test drive. If you don't like the car after the test drive you get your money back and the next person to put their money down gets the car. Even the sales reps can't take them for a spin.
Good thing I have to wait till next year to get one anyway.
That's not too bad at least they will let you test drive with money down. From the title I thought no driving!
At least they will have one in the showroom! If you find out they have one in the room let me know.
I'm pretty much set on getting one, I just want to see one in person. If I like, I buy!

yeh thats pretty good, from what i heard here, the dealer wont even be getting a car for display at all under all for a couple more months
We all seem to go to the same dealers yet get a different story each time. Just came back from Performance (getting my mother's car serviced next door) and they are receiving 5 cars but they have money down for only 2 of them. It's the same at the one in Hull. So there will most likely be cars in the showroom come August. They also say money down before test drive.

At this point in the RX-8 lifecycle, money down is reasonable. I only hope the engine and brakes have had a chance to break-in before my chance to test arrives.

i'm VERY pleased to hear that some dealerships are being resonable (the money down thing is whatever... you guys are in fact looking seriously at it) and not letting their reps drive the cars... in fact, i'd want to be the first one to take it out, get it warm first, and give-er on the corners and on the brakes, but i just dont' think i could bring myself to really drop the hammer on the throttle in the first few weeks... at least, i know that i wouldn't want to buy a car that'd been abused before i got it.
