Sure, it's a dealer taking advantage of some sucker. I've seen several auctions like that on eBay recently. Basically folks are bidding on how much dealer markup they're going to pay.

As the saying goes, "There's one born every minute!"

Whats to explain. Either this is done by someone who preordered but does not want the car and couldn't get the deposit back. Or its probably a madza salesman or woman trying to make some extra dough.

its probably a deealer trying to get extra money. i have seen auctions like that go for almost $10,000 just for the right to buy one. buyer beware is right. it is a total rip off!

That's the wonderful thing about the free market, especially somewhere like eBay; no matter how worthless something is there's usually someone somewhere willing to pay for it. :D

This doesn't get any stranger than in the world of exotics, where people can often sell their Ferraris with 2000 or so miles on it for a substantial premium to buyers who aren't willing to wait years for a new one.

Same thing here; I'm sure there are any number of people with spare cash who will be happy to spend a few thousand $ to get their RX-8 "early" rather than wait...

Personally, I find it hard to believe that someone would be willing to bid $5600 over MSRP; I somehow suspect the high bidder missed the "MSRP + bid" part of the auction, but you never know...

(I'd also like to know how the dealer knows the RX-8 is going to have 10 miles on it...)

eh, if you read the print down at the bottom, it states:

This auction is NOT for the final price of the vehicle, the final price will be your bid + MSRP. The MSRP of this vehicle is $33,100.00

so in essence, you're bidding on how much over MSRP you'd like to pay...i feel real bad for these people...i feel like selling them something like canned air for $50 to make them feel not as stupid...:D

A real travesty! Although I feel the dealership, on one hand, does have a right to sell the vehicle for whatever someone is willing to pay, they should do it honestly. I think they are taking advantage of the uninformed buyers. Wonder how many of those bidders think they are honestly getting the black/yellow interior (as depicted in the pics) and the fog lamps?

Makes you want to send a private Email to those bidders and "inform" them and/or invite them to our forum.

Besides what you all have already mentioned, I would not be too eager to send a $6K check to someone with 3 positive feedback as a buyer and 0 as a seller.

so the winner has to pay the price tag of $33g's + the closing bid amount, what a scam....but i guess when people want something so bad they're willing to ridiculously overpay

well apparently there are at least 6 idiots born that bid on this thing. And i'm sure the number will only go higher.

i feel like selling them something like canned air for $50 to make them feel not as stupid...

hahaha, i'll take a year's supply please!

canned air....hahaha that reminds me of that star wars spoof of a movie called spaceballs. hehe. Like when the character Mel Brooks plays picks up what looks like a soda can (I forgot if the can has anything printed on it) opens it up and he starts breathing in the so called fresh air through his nose. LOL that was a blast to watch.
