I recently went to my audio store, and asked about dynamat. They instantly pointed me to Hushmat saying it is basically the same exact product as Dynamat, just much much cheaper. I want to ****mat (place dyna or hush) my trunk and they showed me to a compact trunk kit costing me 2 bills plus installation. Has anybody installed dynamat? What exactly is the difference, and has anyone even heard of Hushmat??? Thanks in advance, Matt :o

Difference... in the label more than anything. Dynamat is overpriced for what it REALLY is. You are paying for the ability to say you have it pretty much.

Hi-temp mastic is the product name. Very similar to dynamat... but at somewhat less of the price of dynamat (this stuff has increased in price over the years because of ppl like me :) ). Only problem is, you will have a hard time making it conform to the odd shaped areas. Of course, heat can solve that problem (much like dynamat). You also have the option of varying thicknesses and meters to order with. So you can choose how much weight/soundproofing you want.

I have personally used this stuff on many a stereo install and really can not hear any difference between the two.

go with fatmat, it's cheap...100 bucks for 100sq feet, i did my entire 8 (trunk, trunk lid, driver and passenger cabin floors, both front and rear doors, rear seats, rear deck and tranny hump) with only 81sq feet....honestly, after the 3 days it took to install, i would have to say it was not worth it. The road noise is slightly better and the rattles are almost all gone but the only difference i could hear (noticable) was in the front doors. If i were to do it again, i'd only do the front doors.

How exactly do you hear the difference in the front doors? What did improve?

The music has a warmer sound, less rattles, and less road noise. Best of all, the door has a very solid sound when opening and closing it. It kind of sounds like a vault door.

Thanks, that sounds good - did you apply the FatMat over the inner black plastic panel or took it off? I really don't want to take that thing off... that would mess up the window brackets and whatnot.

do not remove the plastic, it only lead to problems. cover over it instead...check out the thread above, i updated it.

Very interesting, thanks for posting photos, etc. I would just like less road noise. I had a shop install a cheap version of dynamat under the floor, both front and back and I thought it made a noticeable difference, but it can probably get better. Now I'm wondering two things...want your advice:

1. It seems from the comments that the next thing to do are the front doors or the trunk (or both). I can probably handle the trunk myself, but would not be able to do the doors myself. Should I do the trunk myself first?

2. Is it worthwhile to also / instead pay somebody to do the front doors? I don't think it would cost more than $100 for the labor, is that worth it?

Or hey, one more question... Are the front doors easier than I think? I would have no idea how to get the panels off (or back on).

It took me longer to due the trunk then it did to do all four doors. (I did the trunk first, so maybe I got faster as time went on) I would recommend doing it yourself, it is very time consuming, but not hard at all. Given that it is so time consuming it would cost a pretty penny to have a audio shop install it. (IMO over $100) I would recommend looking at the body shop manual for information on how to remove the door panels. (Not hard after you do it once :) ) I noticed the most improvement from the doors.

removing the door panels is easy...the trunk as well is super easy

even though I haven't upgraded audio I'm thinking I may install this stuff for a quieter ride and improve the stock audio

really helpfull when I get a nice sub
