Black looks great when it's clean.

Honestly though if I had to choose another color... I'd get the red or silver.

Both great looking.

Go for the green! Though you have to remember, it's so dark it's almost black. It's going to be a rare color on the car, it would seem- there are only a few of us getting it on here so far.

My first choice was nordic green with black/tan interior. Then I switched to black with black/red interior. I think the dark green looks very british but the RX is definately not a british roadster. Dont get me wrong bot British Racing Green goes very well with a Jaguar. It does also fit to the MX5 which looks somewhat like a british roadster. However I think that black color reflects the sporting character of the RX 8 better. I am well aware that I will have to clean my baby on a regular basis. On the other hand - black and red - the best combination IMHO. It simply looks as cool as is the car.

If there was a black/yellow interior I would choose yellow.

sunlight silver. Anybody who buys a dark coloured car in Europe and the UK in my humble opinion is bordering on suicide. Dark is depressing. The eather is dark, rainy and crappy as it is - why make your car the same? It's why I admire people who buy yellow!

First thoughts in my stereotypical mind of a driver in a dark car is : drug dealer! Unless its a Merc or a Bentley where I think : Rich bastard!

Well balck might by depressing in rainy London but will be a delight in sunny southern Germany. My Merc however is silver (boring). Yes yellow is absolutely great. But there are no two tone leather seats for it.

Welcome IxIz. I lived in Singapore for 3 years (corner of Dunearn and Scotts Road near Newton) and my wife is from there - we go back every few years. Which area do you live in?

As far as colours go - I would get yellow or green (check the pics from East Moon - looks great). I personally think silver and grey are too common on cars in general although they look good too.

For those that haven't done the currency conversion, IxIz is paying US$84,000 for the RX-8 (i.e. about 3x the US price), plus the car will be have to be scrapped when it is 10 years old.

IxIz - does that price include the COE, and what engine size does the 1.3 rotary fall into?

You're not allowed to have a car that's more than 10 years old in Singapore? So that means the people that bought 1992-93 FDs from Japan have to have them destroyed now? How sad...

You have to bid for a piece of paper (Certificate of Entitlement or COE) - a variable number are made available every month by the government based on how many cars are scrapped. This COE allows you to initially buy a car and keep it for 10 years or allows you to keep it an additional 10 years. Often the COE can cost $20k-$50k so most people will get a new car to go with it unless they are very attached to their vehicle (and it runs very well). I believe the goal is to keep the total number of cars driving around Singapore from increasing thus preventing this small island/city turning into a permanent traffic jam (i.e. if 2000 cars are removed from the roads in June then only 2000 new cars can be bought that month). And when I say scrapped I think the cars are often sold abroad so those FDs are hopefully being enjoyed in Malaysia or elsewhere.

Also as there are few old cars the air pollution is relatively good for a large city (vastly better than NY or London or HK) and slowly improving. The massive import tariffs are also aimed at reducing reliance on cars (and making money for the government to provide excellent public transport systems). I think overall Singapore has the newest cars (and cleanest roads) I've ever seen (and I've visited over 50 countries for work and play).

The 1.3 rotary should fall into category A (ie 1.6 litre and below). However, as we are getting the cars off grey importers, they are bidding for Category E (open) COE.

$143k is inclusive of COE.

So that means the people that bought 1992-93 FDs from Japan have to have them destroyed now? How sad...

Actually, I think most of the FDs have had their COEs renewed...car is way too nice to be scrapped! :D

So do you have some job that lets you travel to different countries, or do you just keep finding new jobs in different countries?

How much would the road tax be for the RX8 in Singapore?

S$731 or about US$420.

Compare that to the S$3,000+ (US$1,700+) that I'm paying on my current VR6! :D Good savings!

That's really not bad at all. I wonder how much it will cost to buy the RX8 in Malaysia and the road tax there. Do you have any idea?

Sorry, no idea on how much the RX-8 will be in Malaysia. Road tax shld be much cheaper than Singapore tho and will most likely be categorised as a 1.3 litre as well.

I used to do consulting work for international banks in Europe for a few years and then in Asia for many more years (the most interesting places I've been to were South Africa three times, Japan a dozen times and New Zealand once). Now I have settled down in the USA and don't go anywhere anymore as I cannot bring myself to pay for my own flights.

Are u sure? It said
1.00 SGD Singapore Dollars = 0.580148 USD United States Dollars

So the RX8 is 82,000 USD... oh yes it is very expensive. Mine in Australia is only A$ 67850 so around $44956 or $77946 SGD

I saw all the colours red, black, silver, titanium, yellow, white, blue, green.
My recommendation is .... I can not determine:p

Even after I got my car in red, I still changing my mind.

green(I saw a green at my dealer) -> yellow(I found a good yellow pic) -> titanium(I saw it at my dealer) -> red(I saw my car driven by my dealer from outside) -> silver(I found an old magazine with nice silver pic) .;)

In singapore they probably have white, with red interior. I love white cars, and red int. In my opinion rx-8 looks good in any color.
