I have insurance thru State Farm and have been with them for over 2 years. My previous insurance bill was about $688 for 6 months. It's up for renewal and now they are charging me $735. I did not get into any accidents or receive tickets, so I called them up inquiring the hike. They said that their rates went up that's all, nothing to do with my record. Did something similar happen to you too?

Also how much are people paying in insurance for their 8 in the Chicagoland area?

My coverage:

$250 deductible for collision and comprehensive.
Rental car coverage for $25/day up to $600 max.
Multiple line discount (rental insurance).
Road Side assistance (I know Mazda provides it too... but this costs only like 5 bucks for 6 months).
100,000/300,000 for medical expenses.
100,000/300,000 for property damage.

That's all I remember, I'll update my coverage later. Just want to get a feel from all of you whether I'm getting a good deal or should I take my business elsewhere. Thanks!

I think one of the biggest variables here (besides your clean record) is your age and marital status... that can make a big difference. I'm in the Chicago area with Progressive, 35, Married and maybe 2 tickets in the last 5 years. I pay something like $1500/year for both my 8 and my '02 Explorer.

State Farm and Allstate are notorious for high rates. Try getting a quote from Geico or American Express. Geico is half of what I was paying at Allstate.

My recommendation to you is to find a reputable insurance broker in your area that offers multiple products from different carriers. Ask them to quote your auto and renter's as a complete package, and tell them what you were paying, stating that you want to match or better that price. I bet if they are any good, they will find you something quick. I also agree that you should raise your deductible. You'll save lots.

I have Country Insurance. I am 46, Married, full coverage, and I pay $348 every six months on my 8. I have $250 deductible.

Of course I live in the burbs and not in Chicago itself.

Dropped State Farm when they wanted to raise me for car and home insurance. Saved a ton of money by switching.

I have State Farm. I think I am paying $600 - $700/yr.; 500 deductible; 48 yrs. old; Married
I recieved an Illinois Safe Driver Cert. Isn't court supervision great. My 17yr. old son has a 94 Probe. He is paying twice that for basic insurance.

I've got Geico. I'm 34 male, had minor accident that I had it fixed myself, last speeding ticket issued Oct 2000. Click on thumbnail to view my policy. This is weird but I pay around 500 for my Accord V6!

Don't call me an old fart. I just try to keep my eyes open all the time :).

A family member is works for Allstate and he get pretty good rates for a couple friends of mine. Give him a call and tell him that Paul referred you. His name is Simon and his number is 847-272-8854.
