Angry Rx8 Running Like Sh#%@$t!

I was on the way to work this morning. I got onto 495. Then got to about 6500 rpm and the damn thing started missing out and the CEL was flashing. I took it strait to the dealer. I work next to Rosenthaw Mazda. I really hope its something simple like the coil or plugs. I don't want to be without my car that long. While its there they are going to put in my new headlamps. What a great way to start off a week.

however you spell it, it still sucks that I bought a 30k car that can't go 10k miles without having a drivability problem. I have been doing some research on the power loss CEL problem. Its a common thing it seems like. Which doesn't make me want to keep this car after the warranty runs out. I have had more problems with this car than I have any other car I have owned. I have owned maybe 23-24 vehicles. I think that Mazda made this thing so damn complicated that they can't even figure it out. Hopefully around the time we get the ZC flash they will have it figured out. Lets see that should be about ,,,,,,,,,,,,now. Nope, my bad. Maybe it will be the xcre4 flash. LOL

Good luck. I had the same problem, however, mine appeared around 7-8K. She starting stuttering and CEL flashed. Turns out it was a misfire. They replaced my plugs and it hasnt happened since.

True the RX-8 is not without its problems, but IMO I think it's held up rather admirably for a first year brand spanking new model with an engine that hasnt been on the market for years. Am I wrong guys??

PS what's with new headlamps?

At the end of last year I notice that the film looking crap on my headlamps was getting much worse. I tried everything to clean them off. Then finally I took the assemblies out and wipe the inside with a long screwdriver with cloth on the end. It turns out that the film is on the inside. After long talks with Mazda American and countless phone calls to the dealer, they finally agreed to replace them. Given the cost of the new light assemblies I can see why they wanted to stall as long as they could. In the end what is right is right. I love my car. I just really think that there should be more accountability in the product. I feel lied to, and taken advantage of. I was always told that the car would drive bette broken in and that the flashes would fix all the problems.

I think Mazda said it best. You don't go to war with the army you wish to have but the army that you have, oh wait, that was Rumsfeld. lol

Bashing the 8?

I have had the CEL problem as well. I get the occasionaly misfire and pulled a p0420 code... related problems though due to the cold weather when I went home.

Is this car perfect, no. Remember, Rotary Experiment. The only people that have really tried to create a car like this one is..... no one else. BMW is the only other company I know that has even considered building a car in any way similar to the 8.

Are we going to see nuances, of course!!! The problem therein does not lie in the car, rather, it lies in the service available for the car. That is the matter of debate. The flashes are going to be fixes to some of problems. But, we can not get the new flashes for our problems until they start showing up!!!!

Continue to have faith in the car my friend. Continue to have faith in the company as well. Though it may take some time, I am sure Mazda will pull through.

Engine was warmed up before. I had already been driving for 10 min. in traffic. The temp gage was in the middle. Not driver error!

They pulled two misfire codes and the fuel runner and motor is bad. Can't figure that out. The tech said they may need to pull the engine out to get to it. I really starting to get nervious about this.

Got my call today. Dealer says car is fixed. They replaced the fuel runner and says the problem is fixed. I will see tonight when I pick it up. I plan on driving it the same way I did before and see if the problem comes back.

Educate me. What in Hell is a "fuel runner"? Never heard that terminology. Thanks!

Well, that just shows how little I know about current car technology. I'm still back in the era when the ignition systems had points, rotors and condensor. Oh the good old days. Right!

I had to Google to find out what a fuel rail is. Pathetic, eh? At least I think I found out what it is. In Mazdaspeak, is item number 3 in the attached diagram what is being referred to as a fuel rail (or runner)? Anyway thanks.

2 and 3 are both fuel distributers(rails). i dont know how the pcm would throw a code. it looks liek there is a vacuum switch on 3 so i suppose it would know if that failed. and i suppose it would know if the injectors failed but you would then just change those parts right? not the whole assembly?

I got there and of course the tech had let for the day. I also found another engine cover in my trunk. I am getting do ******* pissed off about this. The tech should have check all this out before they called and told me it was done.
