I have only had my 8 a couple of weeks now....I am going to Phoenix at the end of this month to visit some buddies from college, it's only going to be a 4 day trip. If I can't find a cheap plane ticket I was thinking of taking the 8 on the trip. Its about 1100 miles, never driven that way before and I was just wanting to get some opinions from those who have gone that way or have taken their baby (the 8) on a long road trip.

I know I'll need to keep a couple quarts of oil on hand :D

I took my 8 on a road trip from Dallas to Houston to New Orleans and back the same route. I think I ended up with roughly 1100-1200 miles added. The 8 was awesome.

Definitely bring some oil and plan according with gas (I stopped when I got to 1/4 tank instead of the usual "need gas" light). Cruise control rocks and the ride is super smooth. Didn't have any negative issues. Be careful with the speed as it doesn't feel like you're going fast (if you haven't experienced this already). Since going 80 or so puts your RPMs in the 4k range, accelerating to pass the slow pokes was easy and the car pushed like it wanted to go faster. Prepare for some nasty bug guts on the windshield (I'm still trying to get them off and it's been over a week!).

I used to hate road trips, thought they were boring, but having the 8 puts a whole new perspective on it. Now I can't wait to get in the car and drive. HAVE FUN!!!

I agree with daisygrl. I took my 8 on a trip in Oct ( dallas to sarasota fl. ) I put over 3,000 mi on it over a week. The 8 ride was smooth and comfortable. I was quite surprised how comfortable I was during the entire drive. GREAT RODE CAR!

I agree Dazy on this one. The 8 is great car for road trips. I make a monthly trip to El Paso. and thats about 9.5 10 hour drive or about 750 mile each direction. El Paso to Phoenix as about an other 7 hours.

Have fun. oh and watch out the cops around Sweet Water, TX. They got me good this last time. $160 + whatever fees they want to add.

Take the 8. Do not drive in west Texas at night. Deer and other critters are a real hazard.

Be careful on keeping the same speed with the car so new. The motor needs to not be a the same RPM very long with out be broken in. Just my .02

Farthest I've been is Houston to San Antonio (3hrs).... great ride. Only complaint is the BUGS! Oh I tried the whole PAM thing.....yeah I read somewhere to put PAM on the front end and the bugs will wash right off when you get there.....OMG! Took me 2 days to get the damn PAM off the car.....LOL.

Bring the camera and take some shots as you see good places to pull the 8 over.... we'd like to see em.
