View Full Version : Update on shipping and demo's
eccles 05-27-2003, 05:06 PM This just in from my dealer - give it whatever credence you like. (Excuse the shouting - it seems he uses a terminal that doesn't do mixed case.)
1ST BOAT SHOULD LEAVE JAPAN FRIDAY WITH SECOND BOAT ON SAT. DISTRIBUTION MGR THINKS THAT IN A PERFECT WORLD THEY SHOULD BE AT THE DEALERS BY END OF JUNE. BUT AS YOU KNOW THIS IS NOT A PERFECT WORLD. I THINK 5 - 6 WEEKS TOPS.
ALSO, THE DEMO'S THAT THE DEALERS WERE GOING TO GET, HAVE BEEN DELAYED TO LATE JULY SO THAT WON'T HELP YOU. YOU'LL HAVE YOUR RX-8 BY THEN.

At least I'll still get to test drive before my 8 comes in. Not only that, I will give it a REAL test drive :D.
budaman 05-27-2003, 05:31 PM Actually, the keyboard is fine, it's my fingers and eyes that give me trouble!!! I want the cars here as bad as everyone else. I haven't driven one yet either. Everyone I've talked to that has, has said it's fantastic!
RX-Nut 05-27-2003, 06:04 PM and we are guessing.. is budaman your dealer, eccles?

budaman 05-27-2003, 07:48 PM I had to join the group. Sometimes I can get more useful info from you guys than from the other people. I did pass along my concerns of the communication between corp, dealers and consumers. This is one area that I picked up from reading the threads. Hopefully, things will get better as they start shipping. I have a silver one on order for my wife on July allocation so it should be here just before the lease on her Jetta is up. The titanium sure looks nice in the brochure though. We might have to change that!
Toadman 05-28-2003, 09:54 AM budaman, you work at one of the Beasley stores?
budaman 05-28-2003, 10:55 AM Not just one of them - the best one! Location is everything
Toadman 05-28-2003, 10:58 AM Well the BEST one is Premiere in G-town. :)
budaman 05-28-2003, 12:16 PM We'll just let the results speak for themselves!
Toadman 05-28-2003, 12:28 PM So you're at the ratty store in Austin or the one at Burnet? ;)
budaman 05-28-2003, 01:58 PM I guess that would be the ratty one! Yeah, were not as pretty as Premier is. The construction on I35 doesn't help either. All we can do is to try to give the customer the best buying experience we can. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Toadman 05-28-2003, 02:37 PM Dealer code 34418 in Austin? I know George the old parts mgr. Talked with him daily it seems. PM me sometime. ;)
brownchiro 05-28-2003, 04:03 PM Where can I find the list of top Mazda dealers in the US. Another post said Austin has number 1 & 2 in the nation. I would like to see a list. I tried google, but nothing comes up. Thanks
budaman 05-28-2003, 04:36 PM As far as I know, there is no list available to the public.
YTD- 1)Fairbanks/Fla 2)Koons/DC area 3)Galpin/CA 4)RB Mazda South/Austin 5)Fairbanks/Ga 6)RB Mazda North
The two RB stores are 1 & 2 in Gulf Region
If you count all four stores in Austin area we would be the #1 metro area. We have the greatest import penetration % in US
brownchiro 05-28-2003, 04:52 PM Thanks

Hi Mike,
Is that due to how wonderful you have treated all of us "preorder maniacs"? Or, do you mean to tell us you treat ALL customers this special?
You guys will certainly get my recommendations to whoever asks, ESPECIALLY if you call me before you call Jon to pick up the car <grin>!!!
Welcome to the group.

i hope this isnt the boat that just sank off the coast of japan with 2,000 cars on it......
budaman 05-28-2003, 05:30 PM I think tha tboat was full of Toyotas! However, I did see a flash on the news about an earthquake in Japan the other day but have not seen anything in the paper about it.
we try to treat everyone like a special customer, but I have to admit I go a little bit further with non mundane vehicle customers. It ought to get real crazy when the Mazdaspeed Miata hits early next year! Hope Hope Hope The rumors on this car have been going around for a couple of years and it looks like we might actually see it in Jan. You know how those Miata nuts are! With the Miata you still need another vehicle because of its limitations. The RX-8 should be the perfect vehicle for all of us that need some utility but still want a fun ride.

have you heard anything about a mazdaspeed rx-8?
3Rotor 05-28-2003, 05:55 PM This seems to be consistent with two different pieces of information that I have received. According to RX-8 sales at Mazda NA, my car was slated to be shipped on 5/31 (which would be boat #2 on Saturday). One of the reps I talked to went into some Mazda site with my VIN and looked it up for me. I dropped by my dealer yesterday to pick up the accessories brochure. I asked him if that were true, how long does the voyage take. He said it only takes 10 days, but that customs and the port process takes another 10 to 14 days. And even though the port is literally 5 miles from the dealer. the trucking system is bizarre. There really is no method to the madness. They simply load the vehicles up and take them to a 5 state area from the Port of Tacoma. I asked him if the dealership in Tacoma would be the first stop. His comment was maybe, but maybe not. It depends how they are loaded, where the truck is going, etc. So theoretically, my car could take a ride to utah before it reaches it's destination 5 miles from the port. This proces can add 4 to 5 days. So here we are again last week in June, first week in July.
budaman 05-28-2003, 06:00 PM Nothing hard. There should be one, but based on developement and marketing time it is probably at least a year or two away. I think the next Speed we will see after the Miata will be based off the MZ6. Rumor has it as an I4 w/280 or so HP and AWD. Ought to be a handler because the 4 handles much better than the 6. Better weight balance. I would imagine the aftermarket people will have all kinds of RX-8 stuff before a Mazdaspeed RX-8 exists.
zoom44 05-28-2003, 06:02 PM 3rotor i hope my car is on the boat with yours so far i can't get my dealer to tell me squat.
budaman 05-28-2003, 06:17 PM One last thing before I go home tonight.
Based on previous launch practices, the vehicles will be sent out to the distribution centers furthest from the port first. This way the vehicles can be shipped to the dealers at basically the same time. This is so the dealers are not yelling that some part of the country got their vehicles before they did. It actually works pretty well and all of you should get your RX-8's about the same time.

If there's any indication of how highly my wife and I value Mazda South, it's the fact that we continue to buy from, and have our cars serviced by, Mazda South despite the fact that we now live right behind Mazda North on Burnet Rd.
budaman 05-30-2003, 11:52 AM Good afternoon gang!
I think I've figured out the build sequence by the vin#.
Currently, of the vehicles I've been invoiced on, the units with the last four #s of the vin up to 1774 have been changed from on order status to factory status. So if your vin is lower than this your unit should be built already. The next status change will show On Water. There hopefully be a slew of them come Monday when the next reports come out. The next # up in my inventory is about 100 units from 1774 and is still showing On Order. With the time differences etc. there is some delay in the updating of reports so by Monday, it should show a pretty accurate picture of the vehicles status. hope this is some help to you.

Thanks budaman for the info. We look forward to Monday!

Me Too! I went in Feb to my dealer and the Sales manager was excellent and a great help. Then They let him go and brought in a #1 and #2 neither of which had Mazda experience. I have not been able to talk to #1 but I went in and saw #2..He did not know how to pull up my order, did not know how I could order an option, did not know when I could get a new brochure or acc. list...This was just 10 days ago. I emailed mazda and they called him and talked thru the online system...You know I feel good about my preorder!.
digi168 05-30-2003, 04:05 PM For those in CANADA
IF you have already preordered, the first batch of cars is due in at Port in BC on June 17th, 2003.
I have been told that since the RX-8 is complete, ie nothing needs to be done at port to them, unlike the MazdaSpeed Protege, they should be mobile and to dealers within 5 days of landing...
This info came from a pretty reliable source at Mazda, so hopefully he is right and my car will be here by end of June.
Once they arrive at port I will get some pics like the MSP ones...
RX-Nut 05-30-2003, 04:10 PM Wow.. that's quick!!
LIES all LIES.

info from another dealer (this one is in AZ):
just got my VIN today from the dealer. interesting additional note, my dealer said he just got back from a meeting in California where they were told:
1) Preorder cars are all built as of 27 May (at least his are?)
2) Preorder cars all passed through Japan-side quality review as of 27 May (again, at least his are?)
3) Earliest they could be packed for shipping was 28 May, but probably 29 May realistically.
4) He also said to expect delivery first week of July (to AZ) (probably a padded estimate in case something goes bad)
RotorBoy 05-31-2003, 09:51 PM It will be interesting to see how many, if any, RX-8's are on the "On Water" report come Monday.

SOooo what if my vin# number is this 1774. :) Does that mean my unit is built already?
HI Mike! This is Marc M.
Wow this is very nice, my dealer that browses the boards. I already said you were on the Ball, but now here's the proof.
RX-Nut 05-31-2003, 10:01 PM Gosh how can all your dealers be so full of info, and mine be so clueless.
it boggles the mind.
RCCAZ 1 06-01-2003, 09:42 AM My dealership here in Phoenix said that they were invoiced on two RX-8s last week and that the cars were enroute. Should be here by mid to late June. Just wish that one of them were mine. Also, a friend of mine emailed me Friday to say that he was in Tokyo and went to the Mazda dealership, had several pics taken of him in the RX-8 and received a VIP RX-8 promotional package PLUS a MAZDASPEED RX-8 optional package brochure from the dealership. I asked him to pick up an extra copy or two and bring them back for me. He's due back into Phoenix today (Sunday), so we'll see what types of goodies he's got early next week!! :D

my uderstanding is the car gets the vin after it is made. so if you have a vin number your car s made.
ibfubar2000 06-01-2003, 02:53 PM has anybody received confirmation that the cars are loaded on the boat and shipping yet? wasnt tht supposed to be the next email?
rx8daniel 06-01-2003, 03:14 PM My understanding was the VIN assignment would come first, followed by the start of production and the email to the customer. I made that assumption from my "factory accepted order" email (received 3/19):
The factory has accepted and confirmed your order for your all-new 2004 Mazda RX-8--a sports car like no other. Next, the factory will assign your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and begin production on your Mazda RX-8. We will send you a notification email with the VIN when that occurs--sometime in the next 1-3 months.
Since that time, several things have led me to believe that the actual VIN email won't go out until sometime in June. If the cars have been produced (which seems very apparent) then we will likely get the email post-build.
I still don't have mine - will wait until the new report is at my dealer tomorrow (Monday 6/2) to call to check it they have it.
budaman 06-02-2003, 10:24 AM Good Morning Everyone
Don't have any good news this morning, but I also don't have any bad news either. Inventory status reports don't show anything different than Friday's reports. I guess Mazda is involved with month end closeout which is today. If anything new comes up I post later.

Who's your dealer? I'm going through Bell Rd. Mazda and he says they are expecting 8's to arrive 2nd to 3rd week of June. It sure would be nice to have my 8 in the driveway real soon!!:D
zilch321 06-02-2003, 12:10 PM A little note on VIn info, as far as I know all cars receive a vin before they are made. This allows the company and workers to figure out which car gets which options - options are predetermined for each car before they are made and assigned the vin before they are pushed down the line. Somewhere on another forum there were pictures of other mazdas with giant printouts of the vin on the front of each car as it went down the line - but I couldn't find them to post, sorry :(
RotorBoy 06-02-2003, 02:33 PM ON WATER!!!! Dealer called at 3:15pm to give me the great news. He said based on experience with Miata's coming from the same port, to expect delivery withing 3-4 weeks.
My dealer called this afternoon to report my car was now "on the water" too. He said it was loaded on to a ship some time over the weekend. BUT...because of a Teamster dispute it may not get here till the third week of July!
RotorBoy 06-02-2003, 02:42 PM If you are referring to the Teamster "dispute" regarding auto transporters, that "dispute" was resolved Saturday night, 90 minutes before the deadline for a strike to occur. See the link.
Union, auto transporters reach deal (http://www.detnews.com/2003/autosinsider/0306/02/b01-179913.htm)
Maybe it will get here earlier!?!
I already asked if I could just pick it up in Jacksonville. Of course, they said "NO!"
They probably are just giving themselves a large margin of error so that I will be happy when it comes in early. I have been a thorn in the side of the uninformed salesman and sales manager for the past month because of the good information I get from the Forum. They have spent so much of their valuable time trying to confirm things I already know.
RX-Nut 06-02-2003, 02:54 PM Those of you ON WATER.. are you pre-orders? If so, I wonder why you havent gotten any emails...
Wanna know why?
LIES.. all LIES..
muhahahah
RotorBoy 06-02-2003, 03:02 PM HAHA.. I feel your pain RX-Nut! Well my dealer did say that the first stop is ALWAYS Hawaii for the ship. Maybe you can sneak into the port and take one hostage. JUST NOT MINE!!!! :D
On subject, I would like to actually get the e-mails that were promised. Of couse it won't really matter when I get the car. I doubt I will be spending much time here after that occurs.
RX-Nut 06-02-2003, 03:13 PM Hahahaa,... well if there's one thing I hope your dealer aint lying about is the fact that they stop here first!
