beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

where in cali do u live.

let me just do a quick run down of the colors

red - too generic

yellow - very flashy. but might be too dull?

black - absolute sickness. but black is VERY hard to maintain and to keep looking nice. trust me

titty grey - very classy. wont stand out too much. works on soo many levels.

blue - i wish i had chosen blue:(

green - imo green looks bad on ANY car. green is the worst color for a car.

The red is very nice under the sun. It has gold flake in the paint so the curves are aaccented in gold. Really nice. I have owned two ither red cars and I want a change. If it were'nt for that I would have chossen the red.

tribal forgot to mention silver! i 'm getting the silver as i think it is gorgeous on this car. However many people will say there are too many silver cars already and some people have said they think it shows the lines around the doors too much. me ? i think it's just right:D i should let elara say it but aside from what others think of green that Nordic green is looking better in every pic i see and may be the "sleeper" color on this car.

in truth this car looks great in all of the colors available, the yellow however is a solid and not a metallic or i might have chosen it.

One of these days, I'm going to go to california and hunt down tribal to give him a good smack upside the head. But since he's just a kid, I can't get too annoyed at him. He just doesn't know any better.

The green is gorgeous. Looks almost black until you get it into bright light, then you can tell it's dark metallic green.

I've seen the red and titanium gray in person. The red didn't look like a pure red, like the kind that you would find on the Mustangs. It looked a little duller in comparison. The titanium gray looked really classy, and looked a little bluish, but that was probably due to the bright lights at the auto show. This is probably my choice of color unless they bring over white.

Oh yea, blue looks so HOT, but until they make a blue/black leather interior to come with it then that choice is out.

I've had black cars in the past and despite the fact they may be a little harder to clean the look is definately worth it. No matter what color I had I'd keep it imaculate regardless. :)

I ordered black because it's elegant and sporty :)

The red is *gorgeous* but given that it's a custom color for Mazda, if you get a chip or scratch expect to pay a lot more for the proper paint matching.

I've been wondering for a while why you have a red avatar then? The rest of us seem to match the colour we ordered. There's always room for a non-conformist I guess... ;)

'Elara Green' will look wonderful on the RX-8. I've only seen a blue one in reality but I've seen the paint samples and my primitive brain can do the conversion. It's so dark that even someone who dislikes green cars will be impressed by it.

Thanks everyone, so far, for the evaluation on the colors!

The Ti sounds hot but that blue sounds like its a sleeper!

The swatches in the brochure any good? I doubt if my Hemet Mazda dealer will have more than one mid-June so I could be waiting awhile.

I've got a silver civic right now so I definitely want to turn up the heat...but maybe not red.

Keep 'em coming!

I think its hard to tell until you see the car in person.

I've always liked black and its usually my first choice, but I think the curves stand out more from the other colors.. atleast in photos. Will have to see up close.

I think a Titanium Grey with tinted windows is going to be the bomb. :D

I have a black emerald 94 Nissan Pathfinder right now and like a nice black green.

Red is classic sports car.

my lifelong dream has been to become "the blackest black man on the face of the earth" so naturally i'm all about the black, w/ blk leather and barely legal tints! let the human roasting begin!

ok...all the above was true except the "lifelong dream" part. (i'm aware i will be "well-done" by the end of the summer!) :D

titty grey is the only color i've seen in person and i LOVED it. so much so that i ordered it at first. figured it'd be easier to keep clean than black (which it will be).

then i got home and looked at my trusty black venge (http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/elx13@sbcglobal.net/vwp?.dir=/the_venge&.dnm=my_venge_small.jpg&.src=bc&.view=l&.done=http%3a//briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/elx13@sbcglobal.net/lst%3f%26.dir=/the_venge%26.src=bc%26.view=l) with the tints, clear turns and "blingin" rims ;) man...u just CAN'T BEAT A CLEAN BLACK CAR. too sharp!

Go down to your local Mazda dealer and look at the Special Edition M2003 Miata. That is Titanium Gray Metalic, the same paint code as the RX-8.:o

that is if your local dealer carries a special edition miata with titanium gray metallic paint job.

My local dealer has one and it looks great. But i'm still going for the sunlight silver cause i know the mazdaspeed kit will look better on it! :)

NO ONE can beat a CLEAN black car on a sunny day. I have a black Holden as well.... I need to clean it more often - once it is clean - balissimo.

I ordered silver but now I'm trying to get my dealer to change it to blue. I saw the blue at miami rev-it-up and it looks SO much better in person. The pictures just don't do the color justice.

But i'm not waiting for 3rd allocation if the blue isn't available. I'll stick with the silver and take the early delivery date.

Took a trip to get my long awaited brochure and went through the color schemes...Not very good swatches if you know what I mean!!

So I think I'll take the bait and put my deposit on a Red with the Grand Touring Package with the Red/Black leather.

The guy who worked with me was one of the only sales guys who seemed interested in cars! Period! He got to demo the 6-speed and said the red leather is actual Rawhide Leather and greatly improved over the non-Grand Touring Leather.

Red with Black/Red leather interior!!

This will work for me!!:)

Just working on my pre-order by Monday at midnight because of that 'bank' is due! Get it by October '03.

I don't quite follow what you mean by non-Grand Touring Leather. Can you elaborate?

I originally asked the guy if this is the type of leather that will crack. He said that if you don't get the upgraded package, you won't get the Rawhide leather on the seats! He said I would get the typical inferior grade of leather that will crack in a year or two because of its lack of quality and thinness.

The guy seemed knowledgeable, too knowledgeable, about the RX-8 but his logic seemed right.

I am not a leather guy but maybe someone else can elaborate on the rawhide leathers vs. typical cracking leather on seats.

i have seen leather last 10+ years and leather last only 1 year in the same make/model car. the only difference seems to be how well you treat it. you must clean it with leather cleaner regularly it will last longer if treated properly

my-8,

It's true that their are different grades of leather out there and it's longevity depends on it's quality, and how you treat it, but the guy is pulling your chain. There is not a non-Grand Touring Leather option. Unless something has changed, you can only get the leather on the Grand Touring package - not on the Sport or Touring packages. He wants you to spend the extra money in upgrading to the Grand Touring package. Either your "salesguy" is being knowingly dishonest or uniformed on the car's package options. I would find another salesperson or dealer.

yellow?
i have always wanted a yellow car
the dealer said green would be good but it looks so pukey in the brochure
what color will be the rarist?

green will be the rarest... if you like black, i.e. dark colors, you should go for the green...

I would love to get the yellow because it is just so different and looks such a nice finish from the pics i have seen. The downside is the delay in delivery times and so i have choosen Red, interestingly reading this post it would seem that the majority so far are ordering the Titanium?

silver for me, who cares if there are other silver cars on the road, the question is will they be RX-8's?:D :D

I ordered yellow despite them not offering the black-yellow interior.

IMNSHO, those silver and gray colors are pretty sad on a sports car, but will hide dirt very well.

The green has some UK tradition behind it at least although they aren't offering the right color leather for that either.

Red is awesome, but I gotta thank all those folks out there who ordered it because statistically you'll be the ones getting the most tickets. After 2 red cars, I will never own one again. I've cruised at exactly the same speeds past the same cops in a dark green Miata with a luggage rack on the back and they don't even blink.

Black is tough to clean, but looks great when babied, I don't have the time. This is one strength of the various silver colors, I can't believe how much dirt I've washed off silver cars that didn't show it at all.

Blue was just too risky without good paint chips. All the pictures look different especially on the web and all the paint chips provided to date suck.

So . . . yellow or black. I'm in AZ. Black takes too much work and it's too hot. Black interior will be bad enough. 'Course I'm taking heat from the wife, something about a vanity plate of BANANA-8 or something like that.

Edge your theory on being stopped in the red car is simply explained. Police love to play snooker(I guess it relives the bordom) so you are always going to get stopped in the red car as they have to "pot" that before going for a colour, black is then the next choice as its worth 7 points. I'm sure there are other reasons but i have a good friend who is in the traffic police who says that snooker is a favorite pastime of his and his colleagues:eek:

The color was subject of a long lasting family discussion. Personally I voted for green. But I was somewhat uncertain since it might look too british. I like the Jags very much but the RX is not a british car after all. My son (18) came up with a very interesting theory:

He said that every car looks best in that color the designer drafted it first. Following this theory one should chose red since the car was drawn and hence mentally born in red.

Finally we all agreed upon black however as I posted earlier. So definately my RX will come in black with red leather.

I believe if you are looking for a dark color and still want to be different, then by far the rx-8 green is the way go. There are probably less than 5 people on this board that have ordered that color. In most light conditions the green looks black. In bright sunlight there are hints of gold fleck in it.

Great explanation for your part of the world, but I'm not sure that most US law enforcement even know what snooker is. Or at least how to play. I could be wrong though. I think they just see red and think fast with attitude. Trouble here is I think the yellow screams attitude, so I may still be in trouble.

I wonder if any of our Japanese friends have seen all the colours (or at least the launch colours) side by side and how they stack up in the flesh so to speak? It's often difficult to gauge which looks best unless you have them together.

I've gone for Titanium because we get so much rain in the UK I need a colour that doesn't show the dirt.:D

Personal preference 60%
Durability 40%

I called paint shops all over town here in FL and discussed durability with them on plain, metallic and mica mazda finishes. In FL the sun is a killer and we have the great humidity to get that heat tranferred per se.

I ordered silver after several recommended it as a cool temp color and my own preference. Oddly enough though I ended up with a blue car. They said it was okay but that I need to take measures to keep it cool during extended parkings.

I have seen the yellow now and the blue (obviously) and noticed that the yellow is a statement BUT it blends the contour of the fenders etc. more (the lines of the car are masked more) The body shops nearly unanimously steered me from red although they thought that Mazda's choice of MICA paint for the read was wise. The golden flake in the mica paints are great.

I traded in a 2001 Milennia S w/ pearl mica and noticed that the paint was ultra hard BUT it also chipped easiliy especially in the front.

All of the colors are striking as I envision them on the car. I would never have black in this hotbed I live in but it looks great. I am happy with blue. I am curious as to how many or what are the most popular colors - what they are building.
