Is it true ,for instance,if I purchased say the Prolite flywheel,I can buy the counterweight from mazda at a reasonable price and it will work?

I don't think that will work. Besides, if you buy the Prolite Flywheel (ACT?), it has the counterweight to go with it; why mix n' match?

BTW, just my opinion, I had Street Lite ACT Flywheel installed and the car just flies and drives smooth! The rep at ACT told me unless I'm using my car 65% on the track, to NOT buy the Pro Lite because you'll definitely lose drivability.

hmm...racing beat says there isn't really any driveability lost with their flywheel and it is 12 lbs, and tha tweigh tincludes teh counterweight and all bolts (an extra 4 lbs), so their flywheel by itself is about 8 lbs. Dunno if this clears anythign up but racingbeat is a very well respected (and fo rgood reason) rotary performance company:)

It is not a good idea to isntall a aftermarket flywheel while keeping the mazda counterweight. The counterweight must have the correct weight towards the flywheel. So do the simple thing and buy counterweight together with the flywheel.

The Streetlite Flywheel I purchased, including counter weight, weighs total about 12.80lbs (measured). According to ACT, their Prolite Flywheel, including counter weight, weighs total about 9lbs only. That would mean the actual Prolite flywheel weighs only 6lbs or so? I believe them when they said you lose a lot of drivability using Prolite on the streets.

Bong ~ I purchased and installed my ACT Flywheel from XS Engineering in Fountain Valley.

Additional information - According to XS Engineering, thru their experience in the past, they recommend that if we upgrade to an aftermarket flywheel, we should NOT use flywheel made out of Aluminum (which most aftermarket manufacturers do), and instead something stronger, such as steel. The reason was Aluminum wears out quicker.

The ACT Flywheels are made of Forged Chrome-Moly Steel, which is a lot stronger than Aluminum. That's why I purchased ACT Flywheels instead.
