Couldn't find where this had been discussed here, but thought I would toss it in.
Audi is supposedly bringing an A3/Allroad 5 door/sportbreak to the U.S. The 2 door hatchback is not expected. So far I've heard it will be a 2004 or a 2005 model.
Its expected to come with a 3.2L VR6 and DSG (sequential transmission) and of course haldex AWD.
Unfortunately the haldex AWD is programmed for more front wheel drive than rear wheel. But tuners will be required to reprogram the DSG if they want major engine upgrades though that engine bay looks tight with the 3.2L. I wonder if they could also reprogram the AWD for more rear wheel performance driving.
Its more utilitarian and probably not as fun to throw around as the RX-8 but it should be fun. If only Mazda had designed fold down rear seats for extending the trunk room.
Images later when I find one that works. ;-)
