View Full Version : Don't you own a sports car?
Batmobile1 01-01-2005, 08:23 PM Ok,
Had to dump this opinion somewhere, might as well bbe in the most performance oriented forum here. The Rx-8 is a sports car. I have owned and driven many sports cars. I have traveled at higher rates of speed in 2nd and 3rd gears in some cars than many of you Rx-8 owners would consider at all, under any circumstances. Heres the deal. I am an aware driver. I could avoid accident and injury better at 130 than some of you dunces can at 35mph. What is this backlash against driving fast that lots of you demonstrate? Tell you what, until I hear an equally aggressive backlash against uninsured drivers (who ran a stoplight to total my girlfriends ride) or the too old or incompetent to travel on public roads with the rest of us, I will go toe to toe with whomever wants to take my right to travel at what I consider controllable speeds. By the way, took the 8 to 135 on the Chuckanut Rd. this afternoon and it felt darn good. Bet that ought to get your panties in a bunch you ignorant do-gooders. Out.
mikeb 01-01-2005, 08:32 PM whats your problem
its not fair for you to drive that fast on public roads and put others at risk
if you want to do it you can but do it where you can only hurt yourself
DreRX8 01-01-2005, 08:36 PM Ok,

hahaha
ok
Mikelikes2drive 01-01-2005, 08:50 PM what the hell are you talking about??? your an odd bitter person. Do you feel cool now driving faster then everyone else? Go to a track or go auto cross.
Batmobile1 01-01-2005, 09:05 PM no , I feel good driving fast, I only do so with a wide open road in a non-residential road. I hoped to come to this forum to find thrill seekers and others willing to test the limits of thier vehicle and have fun. Unfortunately you all seem to be speeding nazis who lament raising the national speed limit by 5 mph. And by the way...heck yes I feel good driving fast, and faster than you. Its that little bit of competition in my blood. I'm not talkin about high speed sprints from stoplight to stoplight which I'm now convinced is the mojority's benchmark of performance. But hey....I guess some of you guys are content to go low and slow....just not me. I'm no that guy that tailgates or runs up your ass at 90mph, or roasts the tires in a school zone to be defiant. It's just so depressing to see all of you brainwashed into thinking that gov't established speed limitatations are "safe" and anything over is just reckless. Nothing but disdain for those of you that think that safe means the speed limit. Judging from previous posts (I know none of you personally) this seems to be the consensus, and I thought it was just this miserable state I live in.....
Hey I'm all about personal responsibility...I wont complain about the speeding ticket i might get (only had one in my 1987 toyota truck) but I'll tell you this...more people die every year from collision at (relatively) low speeds than do at extreme speeds. So you can take your self riteous rant and can it. Bitter? yes bitter. and sad that "enthusiasts" still think in the same frame of mind as a camry driver.
Snoochie 01-01-2005, 09:26 PM I think you're funny. I hope people post replies just so you continue to justify yourself. You ever heard of physics homedawg? You're telling all of us your reaction and stopping time at 130 is equal to my grandfathers at 35? I highly doubt it superman.....oops I mean batman. You could've used the money from your speeding ticket to pay for grammer school.
Snoochie 01-01-2005, 09:39 PM Wait I think this was the response you expected:
Oh man you are awsum. I wish I could be lik you. Your right that we should go as fast as we can go. old people suk and an uninsured driver hit my sister in law also. And even though you totally slammed everyone here in your first post I'm still going to agree with you like an idiot..
Do we have a Moron section on this site that this thread can be moved to.
Oh yeah forgot the most important part "OUT"!!! <--cause that makes me cool saying that.
BaronVonBigmeat 01-01-2005, 09:39 PM http://img35.exs.cx/img35/8306/thisthreadsucks4tu.gif
army_rx8 01-01-2005, 09:41 PM i think it's funny that he is faster in his car than anyone else...i mean don't we all drive an rx-8....wonder if he has a different tranny to make his go faster than mine.....hmmmmmmm:p LOL seriously though i think this is going to be a nice funny thread to visit. lol i loved the part about "I could avoid accident and injury better at 130 than some of you dunces can at 35mph. " lol...wow insaulted b/c of....hmm..i'm not really sure what...didn't really get the point...but entertaining none the less.

I'll bet 5000 that your grandfather has abetter reaction time at 35 than he/she is at 130. hehehehe:D
speedweasel 01-01-2005, 09:42 PM I second the motion! (or is it I seek the motion?)
army_rx8 01-01-2005, 09:43 PM ah....HAHAHAHAHAHAHA the Baron has arrived...muahahahahaha:D
speedweasel 01-01-2005, 09:47 PM Bump
Snoochie 01-01-2005, 09:56 PM Go post something in the general discussion thread that the speed limit should be higher or something. Posting this here is pointless and be more analytical and less hasty to call us all dunces. Figured I'd post something helpful.
Gomez 01-01-2005, 09:57 PM You are a tool, caped superhero.
IcemanVKO 01-01-2005, 10:15 PM I think speed limits are lame. I think they should raise speeding limits by about 10-25 mph accross the board, and setup speed monitoring devices either in the car, or on poles, that punish you if you EVER go over the limit.
Currently speeding limits are universally ignored, and used as a means to get revenue.
When I get my sports car, I'll be getting a radar detector for sure.
As for the poster here, I don't think mentioning that 130 mpg is your prefered speed will win you any points here. I do admit that I normally drive about 80-85 on the highway.
People here who say they always obey the speed limit are lieing or not normal. People who rutinely drive 130 are mental.
Batmobile1 01-01-2005, 10:37 PM ok ok...so you all want your little shot at a remark...and you can take all the shots you want at my typing skills...unfortunately I cant be as cool as the rest of these folks and live my life on the computer. Nor did I say that my routine speed was 130. This is this. I think that those of you who choose to disdain those of us who travel fast are gutless. There it is. My car is not faster than your car....however I am a better driver....not trying to win any points, just need to vent. I saw a post earlier about a guy lamenting his speeding ticket, following, the rest of you nitwits got your kicks talking about how his license should be cut in two. I think its hypocritical and you folks put the rest of us at just as much risk talking on your cellphones as I do exceeding the posted limit. Think about it next time you take your eyes off the road to change a CD. and Gomez, I hope to see you in person one day pinche hoto.
mikeb 01-01-2005, 10:49 PM but I'll tell you this...more people die every year from collision at (relatively) low speeds than do at extreme speeds. .
what are you talking about???
do you have any facts???
Where do you pull these thoughts and stats from???
army_rx8 01-01-2005, 10:49 PM lol you are too funny Batmoblie....i like the insulting pm you sent me...lots easier to do that on the internet than in person....lol.....:p. did i get the harsh remark b/c it' spast your bed time;) hehehe
oh and yes my name is army_rx8 b/c i was in the army....duh can't believe you had to ask that (i just got out 20th nov.:D)
Snoochie 01-01-2005, 10:53 PM Iceman had good points. Just don't start saying how we're all lame and you're cool because you can drive better than all of us. I know you're ranting but do it in the general thread. A lot of us like me don't even go to threads not about performance. So I have no idea what happened with this other guy that got a ticket (hell I have 2, one for going 100 in a 45 and I did lose my license, tought me a damn good lesson) but don't go slamming everyone or you're going to get it right back. We've all had are fun now lets go on our merry way and talk about porting or something :D
BaronVonBigmeat 01-01-2005, 10:55 PM My car is not faster than your car....however I am a better driver....

SOOOOO funny :D
Batmobile1 01-01-2005, 11:05 PM ah typical.....instead of a logical or rational explanation of your apparently contradicting views/ actions...I get personal attacts and ridicule...lowest common denominator right? any of you ever go above the speed limit? no of course not....and you wouldnt consider answering that cell phone either.....and by the way.....stats come from DOT. # of fatalities from speed excess of 100mph. most of you are full of it and should stay in the right lane. Some of you want to talk sh#$ and I welcome you, like army to IM me to recieve an adress where I can shut you up. For the rest, again, why would you take a gray area, like how far over the speed limit you are traveling, make it an absolute by calling 100 reckless but 80 ok?

army_rx8 01-01-2005, 11:10 PM ahh i still don't get where the animosity comes from? and you never did answer me...oh and by the way you said "of course its insulting...really no other way to communicate with an uneducated ignorant waste of skin such as yourself....no I don't care where you are...I'd give you my home adress if you'd come out to show me what a waste of taxpayer money you have become. interested? fxxk off you fxxking fxxk"
ahh i love internet hospitality....still not sure why you wanted me to come over and mop the floor with you though:p
army_rx8 01-01-2005, 11:14 PM ah well.....guess i should stop instagating him......which doesn't really take much..opps there i go again:p. hehe sorry to all i know the last few posts i made were't very beneficial and just made the forum a monkey sh!t flinging fest from the wild world of animals:D

Spazm 01-01-2005, 11:46 PM I think there could have been a valid argument in there if he could type and didn't threaten to come to everyone's house and beat them up.

Snoochie 01-01-2005, 11:54 PM I actually saw that retard pic posted by baron a while back so he's got ya there. Baron is the funniest guy on here PERIOD.
So why isn't this thing closed yet?
Richard Paul 01-01-2005, 11:54 PM Well one thing is fast for sure: This thread. Three pages in record time.
Evven so I hope this guy is gone b/c it waste's alot of good peoples time. :D
Spazm 01-01-2005, 11:56 PM I think this thread grew faster than your thread did RP!
Probably for the same reason more people watch Jerry Springer than CNN. ;)
rotarygod 01-01-2005, 11:57 PM Who the hell joins an online forum just to criticize everyone because they don't publicly condone breaking the law??? This forum doesn't support street racing or anything that would give us a bad name or reputation. It doesn't mean that no one here likes to go fast.
This really sounds like a 16 year old mentality. Anyone who claims they drive better then anyone else is someone that has no right being on the road and they themselves are probably a very big hazard to everyone else. With such a big mouth and craving for speed, why don't you take it to the track? I don't mean the dragstrip. Take it to some road course events. They aren't that hard to find and you can go as fast as your car will allow until of course you have to turn or until you wreck and die. It's probably just a fear of being made to look stupid compared to the truly good drivers. If you drive so damn good, why heaven't we heard of you??? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
Just remember that no matter how childish and arrogant you are, there is ALWAYS someone out there who is faster, more intelligent, and more skilled behind the wheel than you are. With such an ignorant mentality, those other people probably aren't that hard to find.
army_rx8 01-02-2005, 12:04 AM all i can say is BAM. well i believe you sumed it up rather nicly rotarygod. always a pleasure to read any of your posts:D

Now don't be shy and deny it.
jsh1120 01-02-2005, 10:29 AM ... Out.Unfortunately, your reading and math skills don't match your bravado. Try comparing your superior driving skills at 130mph to Grandpa doing 35. "Here's the deal." You and Grandpa are each traveling on a seemingly deserted straight road (not Chuckanut) at night in your RX-8's. Both your and Grandpa's headlights illuminate the road about 350 ft ahead of you.
Now, we put your girlfriend in her car stopped on the road ahead of you. You each see her at the same time, 350 feet ahead. Each of you attempts to avoid running over your girlfriend.
You're traveling at 191 ft/sec. Grandpa is traveling 31.3 ft/sec. The average driver requires 1.5 seconds reaction time to apply the brakes. But you're such a stud that you're much better than that. So, let's assume you require only 1 second. Grandpa, on the other hand, is old and slow; he requires 2 full seconds to react. So BEFORE applying your brakes, you've traveled 191 feet and Grandpa has traveled about 63 ft.
Each of your apply your brakes in your perfect RX-8 with optimal brakes and tires. The average car has a coefficient of friction of about .8. But your excellent RX-8 is much better than that. You and Grandpa each get a coefficient of friction of 1.0.
Your car will require 565.3 ft to stop from 130 mph. Grandpa, driving an identical RX-8, will require 41 feet.
So with your girlfriend standing in the road, Grandpa will come to a stop in 104 feet, about 246 feet short of your girlfriend. You, on the other hand, will require 754 feet after seeing your girlfriend to stop. Unfortunately, she's only 350 feet away. So, you'll take her down still doing about 109 MPH.
Now maybe your girlfriend has the good sense to get off the road (and never speak to you again.) But considering your speed, she better be quick afoot. Or perhaps she simply asked Grandpa to give her a ride to the nearest gas station and wasn't there when you plowed into her car.
As for doing 135 mph on Chuckanut, here's hoping you don't find your or anyone else's girlfriend/wife/mother/son/daughter stranded on the road, or if you do, let's hope you simply wrap you and your nice car around a tree trying to avoid hitting them. That assumes, of course, that you even have that opportunity since if the sight distance is 200 feet or less, you won't even get your foot on the brake.
For those interested in examining the effects of speed on stopping distances, take a look at
http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/crstp.html#c2
ScudRunner 01-02-2005, 11:16 AM I figure it's probably true that more people are killed in accidents at speeds under 100mph than are killed in accidents at speeds over 100mph. Mostly because most people aren't stupid enough to drive faster than 100mph off the track, and therefore there are far more accidents at speeds lower than 100mph; so per capita, it's probably true. However, I'd be willing to bet that a much higher percentage of accidents that occur at speeds over 100mph involve fatalities than do accidents occuring at lower speeds. So, it's all in how you read the statistics. Sorry to get all scientific in the middle of the flaming, but I couldn't let this thread go without posting, and I just couldn't think of anything witty to say.
Except maybe that I'm pretty sure Batman is a better driver than you, Batmobile 1, and he could whoop your butt, too (while we're suspending reality and all). :D
NoTears316 01-02-2005, 11:19 AM ok...

LMAO... that was awesome... I love it when he says that radar bounces off his car because he keeps his car clean and its so shiny, then claims that's how the stealth bomber works!
army_rx8 01-02-2005, 11:41 AM lol mayeb that's how an iraqi stealth bomber works...oh wait they don't have bombers..gues that makes them all super stealth:F
jtimbck2 01-02-2005, 03:17 PM This topic has been discussed to death in other threads, and there's too much flaming and vitriole flying around in this one, so it's now closed.
