View Full Version : Auto modellista for ps2
eclps0 05-25-2003, 02:57 AM the rx8 is in this game, the rx8 out handles eveything in its price range and tops off at 159 161. This game is very acurate it redlines at 9000 rpms and as soon it hits 8500 rpm a little buzzer goes off, this game is making me want my rx8 now so i can drive already.
tribal azn2 05-25-2003, 03:24 AM is the game good? i dont like cartoonny type games.
i got a new racing game a few weeks ago called "pro race driver". its fuken dope, it rivals and in some aspects even surpasses gt3. check out the review

and its only 30$
wakeech 05-25-2003, 10:58 AM played 'em all (except for ProRace Driver, which seems a one-dimensional "racing" game... not interesting)... and i own AutoModelista, GT3,2,1, and RR5 among other F1 games.
i've gotta tell ya, AM sucks ass as far as fun goes with the racing... it's all about drifting, HUUUUUUUGE burn outs, really poor car dynamics (the harder you make your suspension at the front, supposedly the more grip you get), STUUUUUUUUPID car "tuning" (everything is brand-name based), not much brake fade, EXTREMELY innacurate speeds, dumb gear ratios (all you do is select how stupidly far you overdrive the top gear), and way-too-much-grip when it rains... it's basically a ricer's dream. OtoH, it's terrific fun to build and customize your own car, rice it out for fun (or make a really classy looking race car, or somewhere in the middle) and race it around, and watch the replay.
the graphics are amazing, i really love the whole vector cell-shading thing, really cool.
overall, it's too easy, too cheesy, but still fun to goof around with if you have car buddys that don't know as much as they think they do about cars.
btw, the FD RX-7 easily has the best power to weight ratio of any Japanese car at full tune. ;)
sadly, GT3 hasn't been topped by any driving game on any system, ever. it will only (probably) get beat by GT4 in the near future, which will set a new "Unattainable Standard" for all other driving games. i haven't played ProRace Driver, but it looks like a serious dissapointment to me. i dont' think it's right to say that these games which don't measure up are "good" and that the GT series are "too good" or something silly like that; i really do think that if there was more interest in the gaming community around cars that we'd have at least one or two more games nearly as good (maybe better in some ways) as Gran Tursimo.

whoops, just wanted to correct myself: F355 Challenge. haven't played it on the PS2, but i got addicted to it in the arcade for a while (blew all the money i could earn trying to learn how to heel-toe on this game, with really f'ed up shifter (almost cut my hand... no shift knob... stupid arcade-playing-ricer-thiefs), and speakers that made my ears ring) and was (and doubtlessly still is) the most challenging and engrossing race game yet: really really really low grip and audibly slippy tyres, tons and tons of power, (from what i can tell) realistic clutch action (they just need some "burnt clutch" odor to emit for those standing starts ;)), and really hard-to-get-right brakes... this is the game that humbled me, and would humble any body who thinks they can "drive fast" (and can't.... unless you can, like eccles), as i know that this game wouldn't be half as hard as driving the real thing...

A fully loaded and tuned one can take you over 200+mph. In GT3 a fully loaded and tuned RX-8 has 515hp and I got it up to 210+mph.
I've tried playing Auto Modelista. Too cartoony for me. And that narrator guy is annoying. Even when I drift just a little. He keeps saying things like, "ALRIGHT!!!, COOL!!!, WOW!!" The guys voice start getting annoying very quickly. But the only cool thing is that I get to drive an RX-8:D

yeah, i know what you mean... first, i think drifting is pretty stupid (but that's just me) so it pisses me off that this game has such f'ed up dynamics...
but the annoucer guy isn't half as bad as the guy in RR5!! :D omg... he is SOOOO stupid... ahahaha... :D
btw: i bought myself F355 Challenge for my birthday, and OH MY GOD... wow. wow is all i can say.
if you're bored with driving games that just aren't realistic enough, too easy, and don't provide a good challenge, get F355... "Challenge" is an extremely apt name... it makes GT3 look like kindergarten.
Played GT3 to death when I got seconded out to work at a dockyard down south (couldn't spend my whole life in the pub watching boring boring Arsenal)
managed to get a 490 bhp RX-8 to out lap a 700 bhp skyline purely due to the superior handling
now if only comparisons were as easy in real life (i thought the Nissan 350Z sucked, too heavy, crap turn in)
having filed the PS2 away for the best part of a year I recent'y dug it back out just to tide myself over until the real deal arrives (not holding my breath for it turning up anytime soon)
