and wow...that car can HANDLE. I've got Racing Beat springs, Sways on the miata...the OEM shocks (Billsteins). I have Toyo T1S tires on 99 Miata (10th Anniversary Edition) rims.

Frankly, the RX8 is a pig compared to my Miata. I bet on the right track, I'd smoke whatever times the RX8 got. Makes me wish the RX8 didn't understeer and body-roll so much. (sigh).

I'll definately miss the miata; one thing I did notice was how loud (aggressive; not crapy-loud), firm-riding, and otherwise '11-year-old' feeling the Miata is.

:( The Miata would be a choice track-day car. The HP difference is pretty large - figure about 110-115hp at the wheels for the 2250lbs miata...close to 200hp - and MUCH more torque, on the 30xxlbs RX8. Even with the weight advantage, the Miata would get smoked by my RX8 in a straight line. Wouldn't even be close. But on the right track...I'd bet Miata. It's also fun to FLOOR IT thru 2 gears, and into 3rd and barely brake the speed limit :) heheh

I sure wish I could keep both.

Why cant you keep both? kill the miatas insurance and say you dont drive it. if your racing at a track, they wont cover you anyway.

Miata makes a good car if you want one you can take out every once in awhile when its sunny and go to the rautocross with, RX-8 makes a better all rounder to me, if I could only have one it would be the RX-8.

Miatas rock. I went from a Miata to an RX-8 to a Cobra, gaining about 700 lbs each time. You can really feel the weight difference on the track. A well-tuned track-ready Miata gives even Cobras fits on the track.

It just depends which part of the track you want to excel in. ;)

The RX-8 is a good combination of speed and handling.

a neat compromise i found (although its 200 pounds heavier) is the mazdaspeed miata, i test drove one of those for aout 3 hours in the backroads and man was i impressed, beautiful handling and some actual oomph under the accelerator pedal (ive driven non turbo miatas, and there is nothing there in terms of acceleration). That was a very fun 3 hours, and that turbo makes an exccellent car into a near perfect car. If i was richer id buy one to have fun in but for now i guess ill only have an 8 (too bad...lol ;) )

Feras, i drove the MS miata and it was an insane bastard, it handles much better than the 8, the dealer guy drove it outta the lot, and he was taking turns i wouldnt even think about negotioating with in the 8. when i drove it he called me a pussy because i wasnt touching the limits of it!!

The $ i get from the sale of the Miata will be banked, and when my payments are due for the 8 (starting in March), I'll draw from that fund to pay them. This way, we'd have over a year with no effective drain on our budget. :) Neat eh? :)

Fwiw, I believe my insurance only 'doesn't' cover 'participation in events where achieving fast times, or speed' are involved. There's none of that during a 'driver's education track day' :D

I really DO wish I could keep the MX5. It's really fun. I mean...before I had a ~300hp car, capable of 105-107mph trap speeds...the miata? I think my best trap speed was about 82mph. lol. The miata was/is still more fun because of how it makes one feel, when they drive it.

I'd never buy a MS Miata. Waste of $ in my opinion. My $5,000 miata + $1,000 Greddy Turbo system (+$150 for timing control box) would eat a MS Miata for lunch, figuratively. :) They do look cool...the MSMiatas. Or simply find a miata one year old, drop $5K to FlyinMiata, and have a solid 220-250hp at the wheels, instead of the ~150 at the wheel the MS version provides. To each their own, I suppose. hehe..

The Next miata, with the 2.3L will have close to the same power as the MS, however...so the 'next' MSMiata should/could have a solid hundred hp more than the current. (Think MS6 engine in a miata).

Well let's just say, everytime I see a man driving a miata I laugh. It's not my fault...the movie just ruined miatas for straight men. If you watch it you'll see what I mean ;) It's actually a pretty decent movie too.

I guess I'm a luck one who got to keep my 10AE Miata and my RX-8. Even if I sold my Miata (fat chance as she's paid for), my wife has one too. I think it would be kinda hard to explain being the President of the local Miata club and showing up in an 8 ;)

Sorry you have to sell your 93LE, beautiful car. Always loved that color combo.... one of the reasons why I got my black 8 with red/black leather. :) And yes, the Miata will run circles around the 8. I have the Bilstiens shocks (OEM), FM sways, BS sub-frame braces, Tien springs, front upper shock brace (OEM) and a Beatrush rear upper shock brace and finally the Harddog Extreme polished roll bar. I'm all set to tear up the auto-x course or track :D

:D

On LEs and 10AE's, NO OTHER Roll bar looks as good as the Polished... :D

My LE's paid for too - it's just, as I described, the money is ear-marked already.

:D

dmp - those rims look like the stockers on my 99 (which isn't a 10th A.E.) is there a difference? I don't care for them at all since I got SSRs and another set I use for daily driving with some all seasons on em.

The difference is, 10AE rims are polished. :)

SSRs are quite nice!

http://www.flyinmiata.com/wheels/comp-t1.asp ahhh...

I think 17's will fit the 6 speed brakes, get some lightweight rims with some grippy tires and drop some weight, install a lightweight flywheel and you might get a little closer to feeling like you want it too.

I have the best of both worlds. My wife has an 03 SE and my 04 RX-8, both bone stock. Very different cars, both very fun. I suspect in these configurations, the Miata will out-corner the 8, but not by much. The 8 will blow it away in acceleration.

The Miata's for top-down cruisin', although it's my wife's daily driver. The 8's for everything else, and my daily driver.
