View Full Version : SCCA SD Tour - Any 8ers want a co-driver?
I'm heading out to SD for the SD Tour in March and my ride went and found a co-driver for the year... bumping me out of the seat (DSP BMW). Can't blame him really... tires is tires. He said I could use the car in SM if I wanted... but where's the fun in that?
Anyhoo, if there's someone out there that wouldn't mind having a co-driver in their 8 for the SD tour for BS, let me know. :) If not, I'll still run the BMW in SM, so I'll still have a ride when I get out there.

clyde 12-29-2004, 11:56 AM On that note...if anyone knows anyone that wants/needs a codriver in any car/class for the SD Tour, I'm looking (or will be as the date gets closer)...
PedalFaster 12-29-2004, 12:39 PM Have you considered posting your request to SCCA Forums (http://sccaforums.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi) and/or S2000 International (http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showforum=11)? The latter's grown to encompass many non-S2000 drivers, not that getting a ride in an S2000 would be a bad thing. :)
Steve
Well if they have an 8, how come they're not here? ;)

philodox 12-29-2004, 06:35 PM Okay, what is the SD tour.. <-- still a rookie here ;)
philodox 12-29-2004, 08:02 PM Ah.. gotcha.. a bit too "west coast" for me.. heh.. it's a bit far from NJ
It's March... in sunny San Diego.... and auto-x.... a month before it starts up here.
No better place to work out the kinks from the winter. :D
philodox 12-29-2004, 08:20 PM There is a winter series in Philadelphia, PA. I may go to an event or two there. Nothing like autocross in the snow :)
typerr 12-29-2004, 08:25 PM I'll be running the San Diego tour in my B Stock RX8 but I'm not sure I want a co-driver. Ask me again in March (its a bit early for such plans).

Many of us already have our Nationals codrives lined up -- Nationals are in September. :p

Yeah. no kidding! I'll most likely have a local co-driver myself who might do some national events.
Never too early to plan for such things. :D

I left my co-driver around here somewhere...

I understand. I used to be that way myself. I went to Nationals from 1994 thru 1999 and have three trophies to show for it. Lately I've favored tropical vacations over Kansas....go figure! :D
I'm just getting started with the RX8. I've got two Hoosiers in the garage, two more on the way plus a set of stock wheels off ebay.

John V 01-04-2005, 06:41 AM I left my co-driver around here somewhere...
Yep, set for the season, thanks clyde :) :) :)
Though if you move to connecticut at least I have SM, ASP and SM2 backup rides :p
clyde 01-28-2005, 12:43 PM Looks like I found a ride. :D
Not sure what car it will be in, though...
Probably a 1988 BMW 325is which is would be bone stock if it didn't have polyurethane bushings, so STX.
Dark horse possibliity is a CTS-V in AS...with the OEM run flats. :o
My codriver is a trackday junkie that has never done an autocross, never seen an autocross but thinks that autocross driving requires no skill and autocross drivers are unable to become skilled because ~1 minute of seat time at a time isn't long enough to develop skills. I figure that I probably have no shot of better than midpack in either class, but the point is to teach this guy a lesson.
(I just better not lose to him  )
PedalFaster 01-28-2005, 02:56 PM Maybe your codriver's just a slow learner. :p
clyde 01-28-2005, 07:36 PM I hope that he doesn't get lost on course. ;)
fastmike 01-29-2005, 01:05 AM Take him as a passenger at the practice course...that'll wake him up.
If you go fast enough, he might beg for his life.

Anyone? Registration just opened... :)
PedalFaster 02-04-2005, 01:47 PM Ok, online registration's been open for several days now, yet there isn't a single RX-8 registered to run in the open class. Am I going to have to start making fun of you guys? Are you going to just let us German car drivers run away with B Stock this year without even putting up a fight?!? :D
Steve,
Atlanta Pro is the 1st East coast event. :) We live on the right side of the county since Bananananie went and got herself a Honduh. She was our only hope for a well driven west coast 8. :D

Scared me right out of BS into STU! I'm no competition for you guys anyway. :D
Just noticed a co-driven one for the El Paso tour.... :)
Anxiously awaits results.

Add one more to the list.... Looking forward to my first event in the car being the Prosolo. As I am waiting for my wheels and tires. However with a baby due March 13th I may have to skip the first few rounds.
p.s. when you get beat by a four door we will go easy on you.

I'll let you know if I start to get worried. :D
ULLLOSE 02-11-2005, 08:48 PM Well you can worry a little less... After trying for an hour we came to the conclusion that a 285-30-18 V710 will not fit on an 18X8. Guess we wll be on the Ecsta V700 for now.

What's the problem. The 285/30-18 Hoosiers apparently fit. So I'm told.
ULLLOSE 02-12-2005, 09:17 AM I think the 275-35 Hoosier will fit.... The 285-30 V710 does not have enough sidewall to bend over on the 8" wide wheel.

That you Jason? :)
Thanks for reporting on the 285's. I was just about to order a set but I guess I'll be sticking with the 275 Hoosiers for now (currently R3S04's).

Yeah Tom....Its me. It was not for a lack of trying. We had 3 guys on that thing... As soon as you let go the sidewall would come right off the wheel. :( I am not going to say the Hoosier or some other 285 wont fit... Just that the V710 which tends to run a bit "large" for the size would not fit on my wheel.
See ya next sunday...Hope to get one event in the car.

Hoosiers have beads that are well inboard of the sidewall. The Kumhos that I've run do not. So the Hoosiers can be mounted on a narrower wheel than the Kumhos can.
ULLLOSE 02-13-2005, 09:47 AM Yeah the 285/18 V710 is dead square on the sides and it is 11" wides at the mounting surface.

Yes, the Hoosiers are definately designed with narrower rims in mind. My 275's do pinch in a bit at the sidewall but its not too bad. Apparently Hoosier has already done some testing on Eric Strelnicks Z06 with a revised A3S04 which proved to be fasted than the Kumho V710.

Has anyone heard if Kumho will release a 710 in a narrower 18" size?
ULLLOSE 02-13-2005, 02:24 PM Has anyone heard if Kumho will release a 710 in a narrower 18" size?
Yes... the 245-35-18 is on its way.... Should be here end of April, after our west coast events. No doubt Kumho will not sit back and do nothing. They are now in ALMS and you can bet we will see some trickle down tire tech from that.
Hankook was also in TX just a few weeks ago. They are working on an autox tire for later this year.
This is just going to get sick, when does it end.... Will it be like the old BFG 226 days when you had a new set of tires for each day of natls.
StrokerAce 02-13-2005, 02:44 PM You're making STU sound better all the time. Let me count my budget. Two sets of dry tires, one set rains, on set intermediates for nationals. Just want to be prepared like the hotdogs already are. Sheesh, I still don't get the people who spend 10-50k/years not including depreciation to autocross nationally. Even crazyier they are the ones making the rules.(ok so its a rant but it's only a small one)

You have a point... On the other hand think about all we have to buy for BS is: one spare set of wheels, front swaybar, shocks and lots of race tires. If you wish to make a top STU car you will have to buy: front and rear swaybar, springs, shocks, race seats, header, ECU, complete poly bushing set, wheels and a few sets of street tires. Not to mention that you will be among the first to dive into STU with the car and you will need to figure out what spring rates, bars etc are best. Also Falken does not make a 275 so now you are buying street tires, BFG KD, Kumho MX, that are as much money as some race tires.
We thought about STU when we bought the car, but the more parts you change from stock the less warranty coverage you will have. Good luck getting a dealer to warranty any suspension parts if you drive in with coilovers and poly pushings. Also if you are a "contender" for the win, it is not a natl champion class, or even worse you could be in BSP like last year.
So spend a few grand on tires and still have a fairly streetable car with most of the warranty in place. Or spend a few grand to play with parts to find the hot setup on an STU car.
mike0615 02-13-2005, 08:47 PM I live in LA, i'm seriously considering enter the tourny in SD, can anybody tell me what site to go to? also, what kinda tires should i get. i'm gonna install some HKS hypermax 2 coilovers this week, will i need to go back to stock suspension to enter? thanks in advance for the help. :D

But 17" tires and wheels are cheaper. ;)
