View Full Version : 3rd e-mail and RX-8 Book
3Rotor 05-23-2003, 05:04 PM I have made a few friends in the Mazda Organization and I recently sent a venting type e-mail to one. He was kind enough to forward it to some of his contacts in Mazda. Here is the reply he received...
Its surprising that this customer has not been contacted as we're on track to contact each customer by email 5 times (3 times already) and we have already sent the pre-order customers the RX8 book. Are you sure that this person is registered with us as having made an order?
So here are my questions:
1. Has anyone in the U.S. received the third e-mail (I am assuming that the third e-mail is the VIN e-mail and not the X-Men e-mail)?
2. Has anyone in the U.S. received the RX-8 book (I know that a few in Austrailia and the U.K. have received theirs)?
I have been asked to e-mail this thread to Mazda once we get some responses. This may be our opportunity to let Mazda in our little society here :)

i havnt even gotten the xmen email.
brownchiro 05-23-2003, 05:17 PM Only received "order received email, long long time ago.
I confirmed I am a RX-8 "pre-order customer" with Mazdausa a few weeks ago. I received the first two e-mails (pre-order and X-Men). Got my VIN this week from the dealer with a "TBD" production date. Haven't seen a book.
Nordic Green, 6-spd, pre-ordered Jan. 15
tripwire 05-23-2003, 06:11 PM I have only ever received the "X-Men" e-mail from Mazda and certainly not a book.
zoom44 05-23-2003, 08:22 PM i have been trying to get my order corrected since late jan early feb. the dealer didn't do it right even though he said several times he had. i went back and forth between them and mazda all the way into april about it. the folks at rx8orders@mazdausa.com won't help me anymore and in fact when i tried to contact them again about this problem because it still hadn't been fixed and i wanted to make sure i would get the pre-order gifts they called the dealer and told him to tell me not to email them about it and if i was unhappy to cancel my order. i told him i was not doing that. on april 22 i sent my dealer this email that someone else on this forum received from rx8orders@mazdausa.com on that day:
" Thank you for contacting Mazda North American Operations. I appreciate the opportunity to respond to you. At this point the dealership will need to make the change from an allocation to a pre-order. We unfortunately cannot make any changes here, as the orders are produced and delivered per the way the order was entered. A dealer may change an allocation to a pre-order by submitting your first and last name and e-mail address next to the vehicle order. This has to be done by May 16th, this date could possibly change so please have your dealership complete this as soon as possible. Additionally, if your order is submitted as a pre-sale order you will be eligible if a gift is available."
i asked my dealer to see if he could do this. he said he and the owner would try it and let me know. even though i have talked to him once or twice since then he has yet to tell me if it worked or not, or if they even actually tried. i still have not received any emails, no book has been sent to me and my dealer as of a week ago said he did not have a vin for my car yet and is still saying june delivery.
edit: the xmen one is not part of the email program i got that and so did many others.
edit2: here is what i originally posted on Jan 15th when i was quite upset over the whole thing

Elara 05-23-2003, 09:17 PM I've had the same problem as zoom44- when I ordered (on Feb 1st) I specifically asked to make sure it was a pre-order. They said "of course it is" and refused to take my email address at the dealer, and I contacted RX8orders and they called my dealer (Feb 7th) to tell him what to do to make it a pre-order, and asked me to call the dealer to give him my email, which I did. I have never received any email, except an Xmen email that I don't think was part of this.
I also sent someone else from this forum (Kittychester) to my dealer, and they told her that they weren't pre-orders, just dealer allocations. This made me paranoid, but my salesperson assured me that everything was as it was supposed to be.
When I went back in March, my salesperson had changed, but the new guy had a folder with my information- I actually SAW my email written down in this folder. I once again asked my salesman (the new one) if I was a pre-order because I wanted the gifts. He asured me that I was. Two weeks ago, he called and asked me for my email because Mazda said that it had to be in the system so I would get the gifts and emails telling me where my car was in production. Since I had already given it to them TWICE before and seen it written down in my folder, I thought it was a little strange. But I gave it to him AGAIN.
I still have not received any type of email whatsoever, which is a little disheartening and frustrating. I've spoken with Ashley at rx8orders several times, which has apparently not helped. I'd be more than happy to discuss this with anyone at Corporate Mazda that would like to contact me. They can reach me at elara@verizon.net.
edit: I guess I should have noted that Ashley kindly sent me an RX-8 Ball when I asked, as well, but that is the only thing tangible I have received from Mazda aside from the brochures I've picked up and the receipt for my deposit.
RXhusker 05-23-2003, 10:10 PM I have gotten several emails -- the last being the x-men email. No book received. Verified VIN with dealer no delivery date confirmation yet. Waiting for info from dealer on port/dealer installed accessories.

added 5/26: Have VIN but no E-mail or book or anything else.

What X-Men email? I recall seeing it posted on the Forum but don't recall getting it.
I have received the press kit and the RX-8 ball w/ one post card, both from rx8orders (William Zdan on the former , Ashley on the latter).
I put my deposit down January 8th, 2002 (15 months and 16 days ago)
My original sales lady is gone - I just told her in 2001 I wanted to be first on the list when they decided to make a list of buyers.
The 2nd and one I wrote the order with is now a sales manager I think, slow to read or answer emails and was not well informed during the 2002 calendar year but was patient with me (he thought Feb 2002 that the RX-8 would be in about May of 2002)-I've generally kept my better informed attitude to myself and said 'uh huh', etc.
I've been only contacting the Mazda sales manager (Annie), I think she is, of late. No VIN yet, last build date change (was Apr/Wk 1 in Feb) was for May, I think. Latest is they will have a demo ( I guess for tech training) in June and they are having a dealer meeting in NJ in June where they'll get to see one. That's about all they know - and they got the brochures yesterday.
I've heard a book is a preorder gift (via the Forum) - but have not received anything besides the press kit and the RX8-ball.
It sounds like the person in Mazda who responded has a belief that all of Mazda is on the same wavelength. On just that subject it's time for a wake-up call. In this age of web and email electronic communication I find it hard to believe that the folks at the 800#, at rx8orders.com email, and even dealers can't be updated daily so that on any given day they all know about the current status of the production start, delays, gift program, accessories, CD player (or lack of a changer), etc etc etc. Many of us here (at the Forum) even get email updates from the Mazda Japan website about manufacturing and sales information. Most of us here probably know more about the recently released Internal Sales Guide and the comparison of the 8 to the TT, 350Z, G35, 330, etc.
Stepping off my soap box...
Jabok82 05-24-2003, 03:41 AM I haven't gotten a single email from anyone. I pre-ordered mine through Pugi Mazda in Downers Grove, IL back in March. I haven't gotten a single email. I have been very disappointed with the level of information I have gotten. I just went to the dealership on Monday and picked up a brochure from them so I had something to look at. They also asked me if I wanted to do any add ons. At that time I determined I wanted to get some feedback. How do I get on their email list and receive all the information a lot of you are getting?
-Kurt
rx8daniel 05-24-2003, 09:24 AM Kurt,
Mazda has a secure website that the dealers had to use to submit the preorders. I believe the dealer must be the one to get into the system and add your email address to your pre-order. The way I accomplished it was to contact rx8orders by email; William Zdan responded and volunteered to contact my dealer's district folks and get them to help my sales guy add my email address. And I said yes, and he did that. Since that time, Annie has told me that she was able to figure out how to add it to another order on her own. She also said her district folks here are not very helpful. Most of the 'add ons' - accessories - will be port added if you successfully add it to your order before it's delivered.
jdj1971 05-24-2003, 09:29 AM Ok so how did you get the RX-8 ball? I didn't get one of those!!!
I ordered mine Jan 8 and I think I was lucky cause the regional mazda rep happened to be there that day so he entered my order, while showing the locals how to do it apparently. The dealer was clueless that you could even begin ordering that day. I've been slowly educating them though. :) They're still telling my late june delivery. No VIN but I have gotten the 2 emails + the X-men one.
I think the x-men email went out to those who signed up on the mazda site to receive updates about the rx-8. It's a different mailing list from the pre-orders.
Ordered a black gt, blk/blk int, nav added appearance and rear spoiler.
rx8daniel 05-24-2003, 09:33 AM I am not at work so I can't 100% verify this right now - but - the XMen 2 email - I believe that is a part of the occasional emails that Mazda sends out to those of us who signed up for RX-8 updates on their website - way before the preorder program started. I believe this because I get those emails at my work address. I get my emails from here and use my yahoo rx8 address for my preorder - so they come to two distinct locations. I am pretty sure I got that XMen2 email at work and filed it in my 'Miata' file. So those of you who get their email in the same location and signed up for the updates probably got the XMen2 email - those who 'only' preordered but never asked for updates from the Mazda website likely did not.
TreknMazda 05-24-2003, 09:51 AM Completed the online order and went to the dealer to finalize on 1/20/2003 but my email was not intitally entered with the order. This was corrected by the end of February/early March. My name and email appear on the dealer's printout of cars on order with Mazda.
I have not received any of the RX-8 emails relating to "order submitted" or "accepted" . Other emails have been regular promotional ones (like X-Men) from the 'keep me informed' website request.
My interaction with RX8orders customer service email has been good. Stacy answered my questions to the best of her ability and she was kind enough to send me a Mazda hat and T-shirt in tibute to my 1985 RX-7 ;)
I have not received the book or any other mailings from Mazda. It would also be nice if we all received the RX-8 press kit.
There was a definite disconnect between the preliminary online order process and the dealer finalization. These two processes should have linked up in the Mazda ordering system to cross-populate information -- like the email address.
The pre-order program was a great idea. But the implementation was haphazard at best. The dealers should have known the details and procedures of the program before we did. In my instance, I had to show the dealer the printout from the webpage for the MSRP to put on the pre-order. At the very least, there should have been a special dealer form for the preorder program that included blanks for required information like the email address.
Have only received the following two e-mails:
"Your order has been submitted"
"The factory has accepted your order"
No Book either

ACRX8 05-24-2003, 12:34 PM I just received my book today. I am totally impressed with this book. It's a hard back with color pictures. The book is great, tells everything you need to know about the RX-8. This book I would estimate would cost approx $40 - $50 dollars. Nice job Mazda.
I don't think Nissan sent the people who pre ordered anything like this.:D
RotorMotor 05-24-2003, 01:03 PM I've received the 2 emails plus the X-men email, but no word on an RX-8 ball or a book. I'm moving in a month too and I'm concerned about all of that getting forwarded. Should I contact rx8orders and give them my new address???
My dealer is a whole other story. Besides not knowing that the RX-8 was a rotary when I went to put my deposit down on January 10, they still don't have the options brochures or my VIN.
Zoom49 05-24-2003, 01:20 PM I configured and entered my request on the Mazda site on 1/14
and then completed my order at the dealer on 1/19. At the time the order was entered, my dealer did not include my e-mail address. This was added to my order in late February. I have not
recieved either of the Mazda e-mails concerning order recieved
or accepted. I have seen the order status report at my dealer
and can confirm that my address has been added.
Also have recieved a e-mail response from Kim @RX8orders that
my order is a preorder and not an allocation, and my address is in the system. I have recieved the X-Men e-mail but that has been my only communication.
My dealer did not contact me about the local Rev it up events.
Had to go in and request information. Called them back later
and told them that others on the forum were recieving invitations
to go to the friday sesions he said that they would try to get me an invitation. Then called my back a few days later to have me pick it up. (By the way this was a fantastic event) Look forward to
getting any direct e-mail from Mazda.
5/27 Got my book today, Very nice! Thanks Mazda
zoom44 05-24-2003, 02:30 PM William and Ashley and the rest at rx8orders were proffessional and very polite to me and at times quite informative(like when they sentus the pics of the accessories). however they never gave me the info about how to correct the email situation, although i think once they gave it to my dealer. they never offered me any gifts or 8balls. they have at times given out coflicting info when asked questions about the car(although i don't think this was their fault as they were only going by info they were given). and while i was not once in anyway shape or form rude to them (i have all the emails saved) and in fact at times was very polite they refused to talk to me any more when i tried to get them to clarify the gift getting for people who were not "pre-orders" as defined by mazda not because they waited to long but because we went in as soon as possible and the dealers did not know how to put in the orders correctly. they never offered to contact any district reps for me. i spent a month acting as go between with them and the dealer. "you should talk to your dealer" then " you should talk to mazda it's something on their end" then "you should talk to your dealer" then me "i did that they said talk to you" rx8orders "we can't help you" me "well than who can?" them "don't email us with these questions anymore". then as i said before William Zdan called my dealer and told him to call me and tell me stop emailing and to cancel my order if i was not happy! and like i said still no email.
Chadr 05-24-2003, 07:23 PM Book and letter arrived today, see my post with scan and pics.
Elara 05-24-2003, 08:15 PM I should have stated this better before, but the RX-8 Ball apparently came with a press kit for the 2002 Detroit Show (or some other show). After I tried repeatedly to get one on eBay, I gave up, emailed rx8orders, and asked if there were any left over still and please could I buy one if so. They had a few left, apparently, but would not let me pay for one and sent it to me as a gift. So that was in no way, shape, or form part of the RX-8 preorder process. I just asked nicely. I have no idea if they have any left, as this was about two months ago.
But I still have never received anything as part of the pre-order program, email, book, or elsewise.
3Rotor 05-27-2003, 10:25 AM I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the postal carrier (is that politically correct - or what?) today. I am hoping that they are carrying my book.

Exactly the same for me - I didn't even get the X-Men e-mail.
ELX13 05-27-2003, 11:50 AM i've received the "order submitted" and "factory accepted" e-mails along with the x-men e-mail.
whether this is proof that i am in fact a pre-order and not an allocation i don't know.
that's been the extent of the correspondence sent to me directly from mazda. my dealer has been OK. not as bad and not as good as some of the other's written about here. i've had to initiate nearly every conversation with them. rev-it-up, new brochure, accessories...etc.
the one thing my "guy" did do was call on april 30th to tell me that my scheduled production date was the first week of may...hmmm. i've called/e-mailed since to get my VIN and have a few other questions answered but i think he must have died or something.
thank god for this forum otherwise i'd have absolutely no idea what the hell was going on.

It's proof, because the RX-8 orders people told me so.
That's how I know I'm *not* a pre-order member :(

So if you didn't sign up, you don't get the little adverts in your email.
But the biggie is getting your car into a pre-order. So many dealers have taken money and not given any updates on this it's irritating.
RotorBoy 05-27-2003, 01:26 PM ACRX8 or Chadr.... Since the two of you are the only ones to receive the book so far, I understand the book came USPS, but was it Priority Mail or First Class? The reason I ask is because I moved and I think my book was probably sent to my old address. I phoned the old post office this morning and they said that if it was sent in either of the above ways, it would be forwarded to me.
RotorMotor 05-27-2003, 01:32 PM I'M SO PISSED!!!
After I specifically told my dealer that I wanted to preorder the car, I got this response from Charlie at Mazda NA today:
I was not able to find your name in our system as being part of the RX-8 pre-order program. The dealership may have ordered your RX-8 as a dealership stock order. I would recommend you contact your local Mazda dealership and ask them to add your name to the RX-8 pre-order program. Please let me know what happens with the dealership.
This is so freakin' rediculous. His next line does give me a slight glimmer of hope though:
If your vehicle was ordered within the pre-order time period, I should be able to get the gifts, whether the dealership is able to add your name to the system or not.
I have a call in to my dealer, but no response yet (go figure).
RXhusker 05-27-2003, 04:11 PM My wife just called and said that my book arrived today!! Even better my tax refund check also arrived -- now I just need the car so I can stop reading the book and hand the dealer the proceeds of my tax refund to pay for the darn thing :D

Elara 05-27-2003, 04:31 PM I think I'm going to have a heart attack- my book got here as well! Apparently my dealership got it right this last time!!
Renesis08 05-27-2003, 04:45 PM I didn't get the email about my order yet ... only the X-Men advertisement email :(. But guess what......
MY BOOK ARRIVED today :D. I got just home and noticed a white box on my computer desk and when I got to my desk... there was a picture of the gauges with the words, "Thank you for sharing our passion for the revolution." WOOHOO!!!
The funny thing is I've never got any word from my dealer since I made the pre-order long time ago. It's funny that EVERYONE through out the US is receiving their books on this day.
Rotor Motor: I'm surprised that they messed up your order. I would feel the same way as you. I was going to pre-order from Cush, but Wescott and John Hine were a lot closer. Wescott is only ~8 miles from my house, but in National City :(. So I was like Uhhh.... not there. John Hine is a premiere Mazda dealer and was about 13 miles away and in Mission Valley. So I picked Hine. That way I can drop by and cruise around the malls after picking up my car. But yeah I hope they fix their mistake. I'm sure you will get your book soon. By the way, are you from the North County? Later.

91vert 05-27-2003, 05:15 PM Got my book today in St.Louis. It is awesome!
I bought a RX-7 book similar to this last year and it was over $50.00 if I remember correctly.
Still no VIN number yet.
RotoRooter 05-27-2003, 05:30 PM Out of all the people who received this book,
is there anybody who knows for sure they are NOT a pre-order,
is there anybody who is in the 2nd or 3rd preorder group
is there anybody who has not gotten a VIN (or any communication since the "accepted your order" email)
3Rotor 05-27-2003, 05:35 PM I'm all the way out in Washington State, and I rec'd my book today, as well. It's nice to know that they haven't completely forgotten about us.:D
rx8daniel 05-27-2003, 05:37 PM the answer lies in the posts above or elsewhere in the forum if you've followed along. I have not received the book, have received the emails. But my address, though updated in the computer several months ago, at order time (1.5 years ago) has changed and I believe it was entered in the preorder system with the old address - so mine may take a few days longer to get forwarded). The answer though, say for Elara, is that she has received no emails, no VIN and got the book. I'm very sure some who got it today were in the 2nd or 3rd allocations. And I'm very sure some of us that are in the 1st or 2nd allocations have not received VINs. If nothing else, nothing has been consistent or predictable!

The cover shows Y5000...about $45.00
eccles 05-27-2003, 05:42 PM So it seems that some folks received theirs First Class, while some came Priority Mail. Wonder why they divided them up, and what basis they used for the division.
RotorBoy 05-27-2003, 05:47 PM I swear this whole preorder program/gift deal is the most bizzare thing in the world. I mean some get Priority and some get first class. Some people have VIN's while some don't. Nobody has gotten the ELUSIVE third e-mail. If this isn't the biggest fly by the seat of the pants operation I don't know what is.
zoom44 05-27-2003, 05:56 PM i think they tried to get teh books out to as many people on this forum as was possible to receive them the same day. so people farther away from the post office got priority. rx8orders didn't want a bunch of emails saying "hey they got theirs why didn't i get mine" and then having to answer "wait a few days";)

I have my VIN number, after calling my dealer. No VIN email yet. My understanding is these will go out next week.
Received the book today in Maryland. This is one beautiful book!
I'm in the first pre-order group.
roachman 05-29-2003, 10:45 AM My dealer in North Carolina did not sign me up as a pre-oreder. Even though I put my deposit down in Oct 2002. I was not please when I found out in April 2003. They did then enter my name and email into the system at that time.
I had pretty much assumed that I will not get any of the gifts, but the BOOK showed up and I was shocked!
But, I hope this is not THE GIFT. I would feel cheated if the folks in Japan get those cool cars and we get books. But as I said, I had decided that I was not going to get anything, so this is a plus to me.
FYI, I did not get the 2nd email with confirmation number due to my info not in the system
RotorBoy 05-29-2003, 04:46 PM Finally... I Got the book today after it was forwarded by USPS from my old address.
Got my VIN yesterday from dealer. What a great week!

I spilled coffee on my book! It ran down the side and stained every page... I am a sad rotary enthusiast :(

B-Nez 06-06-2003, 09:09 AM We just returned home last night from our trip to New Jersey. Waiting for me on my washer machine was my package from Mazda. I read half of the book last night - up to page 118. Will probably finish it today. One thing kinda bummed me a little bit: it details the development of the RX-8, but the story stops at the 2001 Tokyo Mortor Expo. I was getting anxious to read about the story behind the nose redesign for the 2003 NAIS. I must say, it was fascinating to read what the designers, engineers, and honchos were going through (and what was going through their minds) during the period of time between the RX-Evolv concept and the RX-8 in Tokyo in 2001 - juxtaposed with what was going through OUR minds. It really explains a lot. Especially the yellow car. We've come a long way! I'll try to keep notes of any interesting tidbits worth hilighting as I go. I know there were some last night, but I could not put the book down long enough to get my laptop out of the car. :D
Edit: Actually, there is some account of post 2001 redesign, specifically with further work on the chassis and brakes, but no mention of the front end restyling that happened just before 2003 NAIS.
