MRocks 05-21-2003, 10:57 AM No one does. Go outside for once instead of spending hours inside searching for the magical tubesock of truth with your clan!
wakeech 05-21-2003, 11:02 AM yeah, i just saw that game for the first time last night... the world was impressively large (from what my buddy told me about it), but the detail was lacking, textures ugly... the gameplay is slow, and i wasn't really enthralled... seemed more like a glorified chat program to me than a super-cool game of the D&D nature... that's all good and everything, but i wouldn't pay $10CDN/month to play it.

Greater Vancouver Area, BC is just like the twighlight zone then huh?
welcome to late 1999
=p
What connection and or system were you running that it was slow? I finally upgraded all my stuff and now i have zero latencey, lag, of vid lag:
p4 2.40
1.5gb ram
cable modem
These 3 factors (processor, ram, connection) effect EQ performance more then anything, s'why i listed those only.

hahaha, i had no idea the game was that old... never mind then, it's not so bad... but jesus, they need an update.
it wasn't the system that was slow (PS2, with all the dood-dads and high-speed everything, compenent video feed that money can buy) it was just the game was slow paced (you kill like one guy in a minte or so, not hundreds upon hundreds every second)...
i was a D2 fan, played that for a while, but got boring (i'm not one of those no-lifers that went to level 100 on hardcore over the net)
Elara 05-21-2003, 11:35 AM I've never played anything like Everquest- why pay for something when you can MUD instead? At least they're free, and you can actually use your imagination instead of paying for someone else's.
Not to piss anyone off, but I find Everquest a bit of a rip-off. I will admit that I love games like Diablo I and II, and Alice, but no pay-to-play stuff.
MRocks 05-21-2003, 12:17 PM It's you against the world Tony ;)
joofntool 05-21-2003, 01:02 PM right..........................i wasnt talking about the PS2 eq
thats a very dumbed down version
now if a VR version of these games came out, that'll be awesome. Like this one anime I saw. I believe it was called hack sign.

Nah, it's me and the couple million people who played other stuff (and still do)for free on the internet when it was barely recognizable as the internet. But I think you guys would be too young to really have gotten into the text-based online D&D stuff(Not that there's anythign wrong with that). It's been oveshadowed by the pay-to-play games, but we're still out there. Just not as visible since it's not commercial.
Andrew 05-21-2003, 02:24 PM I always liked Ultima Online better than Everquest
joofntool 05-21-2003, 02:28 PM i never played a text based MMORPG
but i did play ZORK when it was out in the early 80's.
my dad had it on his 1st IBM
it was soley a text based adventure game.
maybe i am to young for MUD's?
23...........?
ELX13 05-21-2003, 02:29 PM >begin shameless plug<
everquest doesn't float my boat either.
check out our other game planetside (http://www.planetside.com).
MMORPGs (massivley multiplayer online role playing games...for those that didn't know) are definitely not my thing. they're extremely boring IMHO.
FPS's on the other hand are great. and an FPS where i can play/fight with 1000's of people and my actions actually MEAN SOMETHING...now that's what i'm talkin bout.
don't take my word for it though guys...i'm a little biased ;)
go ahead and do a google search on the title and you'll see the kind of positive buzz that's circulating about the game.
then go buy it. ;)
>end shameless plug<
Andrew 05-21-2003, 02:36 PM Now that it's mentionied, I have heard a whole lot of positive things about planetside. Looks like an awsome game.

But now that sucks too.
I tried out Shadowbane and that was a sham too... too bad there's nothing for me to play :( I play America's Army right now, gonna get Planetside tomorrow or something... we'll see.
