I'll take the lighted shift knob (drooooooool). That aluminum fuel door is pretty cool, too!

The fuel door is nice, but i'm worried it might screw up the lines of the car... it seems like it might draw too much attention.

Now why would something like the #27 Door Inner Protector be something that's optional??? Didn't someone say that they tried closing the rear door after the front door at an auto show and nothing happened to the front door, the rear door just bounced back open a little?

There better be some kind of standard protector on the rear door to protect it from damaging the front door accidentally! With this being a unique door layout, it is bound to happen at some point!

:(

There is no nordic green mentioned either. My guess is there isn't enough Nordic green cars being sold to justify having the green parts on hand.

As far as the silver is concerned, the only thing I can think of is the silver is tough to color match after it leaves the factory?

Sorry that is all I can come up with.

it also says the vehicle is a 2003 RX-8

I don't trust this brochure at all. its obviously not from mazda... where is it from?

highly doubtful, the steering wheel is pictured on the right side, not the left...

besides that, why does it look so cheap like some kid made it? it's highly doubtful Mazda would release such chicken scratch to the public, maybe even its dealerships...it's more likely this was released in Japan?

anyone scan the new US accessories brochure yet?

i tell u guys what...official brochure or not (i'm thinking not ;)) if listing the fuel door as available here is correct then i'm happy.

I'd like to know what's the deal with the "MP3 Module"?? If you can add MP3 playback with a simple module upgrade, that would be too cool.

OmegaBob
05-21-2003, 02:53 PM
I have the same question about the MiniDisc module: can these "modules" can be user-installed? I also wonder if the LED display will display the MD track info.

BRx8
05-21-2003, 03:07 PM
i think both are necessary...if you can get a hold of either one and you know how to install stereos, then they may be user-installable....

the module is the part that actually handles/plays/reads the CDs/Minidiscs/Cassette tapes...

the panel kit is the front covering...the "hole" that the CDs/Minidiscs/Tapes goes through and would be different and necessary for each of the modules

OmegaBob

Wow! The mail came early this morning! Right before I left for work - weird!

I DID get the accessories catalogue! Actually, its a small rectangular, fold-out pamphlet. Contains small full color pics of all the accessories. The last page contains the complete accessory list, with part # and a blank spot for a price.

The pamphlet isn't the same as the one posted in this thread -most of the pics are the same, though.

Unless someone beats me to it, I'll compile the list of accessories and post them in this thread (hopefully, by the end of the day... I am at work afterall). Sorry, I don't have access to a scanner.

Quickly:
1 - I think the standard floor mats look hella better than the cheesy premium mats, which have the RX-8 logo splattered multiple times on the mat.
2 - Night lights illuminate the floor area of the driver/passenger seats
3 - Cargo tray & cargo carrier fit into that hole thingy in the trunk
4 - MD & cassette options are shown. Also, the 6 Disc & MP3 players get a new, small thin faceplate which goes above the round volume button
5 - Aluminum fuel door is listed as being available at a future date
6 - Front sun shield looks like a collapsible (rollable?) window sunscreen with a RX-8 logo on it
7 - Still can't tell how much space the spare tire kit takes
8 - Multicolor fog lights are shown

Thanks Herc and OmegaBob!

Great work! Now we wait for the prices ... Sadly for me it appears that when I get my RX-8, it will be way over $30k, if I get everything I want ...

;) NP :)

I am getting the $500 college discount (least I should be...), so I'm using that to buy accessories :)

Probably getting the MP3 player, the side fender strake thingies, and the front and rear rotor symbols. Figure that should run right around $500 making the car the same price anyway.

Edit: Oh, and all season mats, and the door sill guards :)

herc yuo were probably over $500 at the strakes:D

Here's what I want to get in order:
1 - Spare tire kit
2 - MiniDisc player & panel
3 - Spoiler
4 - Aluminum pedals
5 - Aluminum air vent bezels
6 - Aluminum door sill plates
7 - Splash guards
8 - Nav system (aftermarket brand)

I think that the Rear Door Trim Protectors look bad, as do the Premium Carpeted Floor Mats

Sorry I couldn't scan the pamphlet. I'm sure someone out there will do so eventually...

The strakes are a dealer add-on, so expect they will try to get as much as possible for it. Given the rotary accent is at $140 at MSRP I would not pay more than $80-100 for the strakes. If you get it after dealer (down the road) it will probably go for $40. This is all wild speculation of course.

And speaking of other dealer do-dads, the word on the street is something like $350 for MP3 player.

If you look at the RX-8 Japan website, the price for the side strakes is 22,000 yen, which is abt US$190 ...pretty expensive for four pieces of polished aluminium!

does anyone know what the aluminum air vent bezels look like? is it the circular edging around the air vents or is it an aluminum replacemnet for the actual vent louvers?

OmegaBob
05-22-2003, 11:22 PM
It's the large circular ring

The dealer invoice for the rotary accent "option" is $119 and an MSRP of $139. So, we are really getting the business on that part!!

I doubt the dealer will try $190 for the strakes, but I guess we will start hearing news of that as soon as some of us start getting our cars and start negiotiating some of the "mazda dealer accessories". Thanks for the info.

I'm not sure if there will be as many accessories available in Canada, I guess I can drive down to Buffalo NY and get some toys if not available here. :D

Man, at those prices my '8' will be pretty much un-adorned!
Mazda must be trying to keep Cork Sport and Pineapple in business!
I will definately be waiting to see what the importers have for sale.....
(strakes.... must have STRAKES!)
Maybe just the strakes then,... but nothing else!

It seems most of the accessories come in polished/chrome, but personally I like matte aluminum color more, hope they will be available in that color. Also where's the rear fog light, passenger foot rest, and illuminated shift knob!!!

According to that pamphlet, these aren't currently going to be offered in the US.

Is it just me? I really don't think items are that expensive. Have you ever purchased chrome goodies for a Harley? This stuff is cheap by comparison. $190 for the strakes -- I was expecting a couple hundred -- no big deal. This is a $30k car (loaded) why get cheap with the fun little goodies :D
