Digisan 05-20-2003, 01:19 AM Women should play in the women's league! It's really stupid to let her play, now they will have to contend with women wanting to play in the men's league from now on. tribal azn2 05-20-2003, 01:36 AM this has got to be the dumbest thing ever. theres a reason why women have their own tour. if they let girls play on the mens tour then guys should be able to play in the girls tour, right? and shes not even that good of a golfer. she got beat by some pro baseball player or something, sad. i bet she wont even be able to qualify for the weekend billdo 05-20-2003, 01:50 AM Digisan, I hear ya. If she plays well it might inspire others to try and get on the men's tour, and end up pissing off the hardcore pga guys. But to me, if she can play good enough, I say go for it. I am not going to be, as my ricer friends would say, "a h8ter". wakeech 05-20-2003, 08:51 AM ...the hell??? she's a killer women's golf player... what's the deal? if she can smoke teh women's tour, and doesn't wanna dick around just winning all the time and wants to play some real competition, why not?? i don't understand why it's such a bad thing.... oh boo hoo, she's one freakin' woman taking a little bit of money away from medeocre pro-men golfers (ie: bumps the lowest 20 players down one spot) every few events: if she can play, why not let her play? jeez... what're they all worried about?? she's "just a girl" :p women have their own series because of the disadvantages their bodies naturally have to the game (the hips, the comparably smaller muscles) meaning that they normally can't compete... if she's the best, and wants to play to compete (they are competitive game players... although in my eyes not atheletes) i say let her play. I agree. Let her play. This is after all just a sport. brothervoodoo 05-20-2003, 11:32 AM If she can play competitively without being given an honorary spot, then let her play. If she gets repeatedly blown away in the men’s competitions then she doesn't belong there. Not because she is a woman but because she doesn't have that level of ability. Now on a side note, other games such as pool and possibly bowling, I would think the men and women are on more equally matched.. so why don't they merge those.. it kinda boils down into the following buckets: 1) Some guys take the macho approach, "I don't want my A** kicked by a girl..". 2) Some guys take the sour grapes approach, "We can't join their teams so why can they join ours...". Lastly and the most probable. 3) The pool tournaments are lucrative keeping them separate creates more matches even though I would suspect the level of pool playing is even between men and women. In fact, the women pool associations and the women themselves have lobbied to stay in their own league. Why, money of course, the women's league is making tons of money (maybe more then the men's) for both the league and the women themselves. They are quite happy collecting the revenue and probably would suffer if merged with the guys. So, in the pool example the women and acting exactly as the men, protecting themselves and their money. But if this is really about competition and about being the best, if she can play, they should let her. If she sucks they should boot her out. cueball 05-20-2003, 01:34 PM I do not follow golf, but I do watch Sports Center and read the sports page and from what I have heard I think she should be allowed to play with the men if she is good enough. The reason there is the LPGA tour is because women are not a physically strong as men and would not be able to compete with the men. Now that there is someone that can rival there abilities than they should go for it. The only time I would have a problem with this is if she was handed a spot due to publicity and didn't earn it. Other than that she has every right to be playing with the men. threeputtwash 05-20-2003, 02:47 PM Firstly, there's a rule in the LPGA tour that says "women only", but there isn't a "men's only" rule in the PGA. Secondly, this is an invitation via sponsor exemption. So they can ask ANYONE to take those few spots. Thirdly, if the guys in the PGA tour like Vijay "I'm afraid of a woman" Singh are truly worried that women are going to beat them, they I sure hope she kicks their butts. They offered, she accepted, and I hope she makes the cut, and beat Vijay (though verrrry unlikely). tribal azn2 05-20-2003, 04:30 PM Originally posted by threeputtwash Firstly, there's a rule in the LPGA tour that says "women only", but there isn't a "men's only" rule in the PGA. ZoomZoomH 05-20-2003, 05:09 PM I just want to say Jeannette Lee is hot. that is all. wakeech 05-20-2003, 05:14 PM Originally posted by tribal azn2 2. vijay could beat her on his worst day 4. she wont even make the cut. being an apologist for Vijay Singh aside, saying that she won't make "the" cut is not only inspecific (which one?? if she made the second but missed the third it'd be somethin' special... i dont' know this event, so maybe there's only 3 rounds played, but you know what i mean) but ignorant too: Vijay Singh can stink it up, just as anyone can, on their worst day (i've seen him do it too, but then again he won at Augusta). how long is the course for this "Colonial"?? supposedly the biggest knock agianst her is her distance, averaging something like 280 yards per drive this year (which is freakin' long anyways), but supposedly that's better than many medeocre PGA players... in fact, her average distance is better than some PGA event winners'... as long as she can show with her drive, and her putting for dough comes through, she could easily do well, and prove to the "h8ers" that she's got a claim to a spot on the tour. wakeech 05-20-2003, 05:14 PM Originally posted by ZoomZoomH I just want to say Jeannette Lee is hot. that is all. i concur. :D Quick_lude 05-20-2003, 05:28 PM Not much of a golfer but I heard there are two different tees? One for women and one for men? As long as she uses "regular mens" tees I don't see what the big deal is.. If she can compete with the guys, fine. zoom44 05-20-2003, 05:52 PM maybe the women get wet "tees"?:o wakeech 05-20-2003, 06:04 PM tsk tsk... ;) Rich 05-20-2003, 06:05 PM Originally posted by brothervoodoo If she can play competitively without being given an honorary spot, then let her play. If she gets repeatedly blown away in the men’s competitions then she doesn't belong there. This is valid, except men who are not at all competetive are very often given the sponsor's exemption. The sponsor's exemption is there because the sponsors put up huge amounts of money for these tournaments, and the exemption gives them a way to increase attendance and get a better return on their investment. Typically a local celebrity or course champion is given an exemption to boost local attendance at the event. In other words, she's not taking a spot from someone else who would be a better competetor. She's taking the spot from someone else who would be there to drum up extra interest. I'm excited to see her play. I have heard no argument that makes sense as to why she shouldn't be there, and it makes sense to me to have the top female player have a spot on the top tour. If she plays in a few tournaments and can stay in the top 20 or so, I'd love to see the PGA have the top ranked female player given an automatic PGA Tour card. billdo 05-20-2003, 10:31 PM I noticed that too Rich, all the reasons why she shouldn't play seem to be along the lines of "just because". On another note, if men want to try and play in the lpga, I say go for it. If you want to be the first man to leave the pga tour because you couldn't hack it and go to the lpga tour, hell, more power to ya. dreamgetter1 05-21-2003, 11:47 AM WHO CARES? It's just freakin golf. Don't people have something better to do with their energy? threeputtwash 05-21-2003, 12:19 PM Originally posted by tribal azn2 1. vijays not afriad of no woman, vijay says that if he gets paired with her then he wont play, in protest. 2. vijay could beat her on his worst day 3. vijays not even playing in this one, he pulled out cause of his busy scedhual. 4. she wont even make the cut. 1. I totally agree that he can kick Annika's butt. And if that's so, what's he afraid of? 2. Of course he's not playing this one. Granted he normally takes a break after winning a tourney, but it's still kind of a cop-out. 3. Dissing a woman is a no-no. Especially publicly. Every MAN knows that! He's going to feel backlash for this for a while. Especially if Annika does well..... 4. We'll see if she makes the cut. |
