OK guys i have a Apple power mac G5 dual 2.0 ghz. My problem is i switched my major to public relation/ advertising or politics. The comp i have is to powerful its a waste of hardware for me. So i am thinking of getting an 14 inch Ibook 1.33ghz with 1.25 gigs of ram. Now i would give the g5 to my mom and dad becuase my mom needs a comp that can edit ect. the only reason why i want the ibook is its portable i can go to school, a friends house, and library while i am still do projects where ever i am. Now if i try doing that with my g5 i would have a bad back by the time i am 30.

NOw what do u guys think is it stupid toi trade a G5 for an ibook or is it more pratical for me to have an labtop during my studies....

I have found it is very practical to have a laptop for school. For your courses you could probably just take notes using your computer. I do it for my electives and it is great, however, I cannot do it for equation intensive classes.

IMO, it's not a bad trade if you aren't going to use the G5's power, and atleast it is going to your mom. Although, I wouldn't buy a Mac, but thats just me.

By the time you get done with your major, your computer won't be so powerful unless you are graduating this quarter.

but now with my g5 i only hgave 1 gig of ram i cant upgrade to 8 gigs which not to many pcs can do because most pcs still run on teh 32 bit barrier the apple g6 broke that barrier and has 64 bit.

now with the comp getting outdated once you walk out of the store the comp is outdated. I will only be using the apple for email, internet, music , downloads, word. projects , and maybe some editing.

Hate to break it to ya, but AMD's Athlon 64's have no problem running on 8 gig of ram. And there's no need for you to have 8 gigs of ram. It would do you entirely no good without a killer app that can use it.
