View Full Version : interesting idea for a business...
wakeech 05-18-2003, 08:18 PM hey fellahs, ladies...
my dad's come up with an interesting idea for a small business, and i'd be extremely appreciative of feed back (for the feasibility analysis)...
anyways, i'm wondering what people's willingness to pay would be to convert some of their old, favourite media (LP's, tapes (cassettes and VHS), 8-track (probably not, i know ;)) that probably won't get reissued (like the read-along "Dukes of Hazzard" SP record series) but you wanna have on a CD or DVD (in the case of your old VHS/BetaMax videos)...
well, tell me... would you pay $1.50 per tape, or like $3.00-$5.00 for your old tapes??
if you think you'd pay for soemthing like that, say so, and how much...
...if you're wondering "why's he telling everyone his business idea?" it's 'cuase it'd only be a local thing anyways... all you guys in texas can go and get rich off of this idea, go ahead. :)
thanks.

Lock & Load 05-18-2003, 08:50 PM Great idea ,but have you and your dad worked out how many clients you would have to service to be able to purchase your rx8???HAHAHA.All jokes aside it seems to be a novel idea as long as u can keepyour overheads low and the volume of your work high .What type of equipment would you needto set this up.??? If people can do this for themselvesthey wont pay for the service.Hey bill gates started of with a vision of putting a computer in every home and some people laughed at him, whos laughing now???.go for it
neit_jnf 05-18-2003, 09:00 PM I think its a great idea! But I also think its already done... Could be great for home videos too!
Sputnik 05-18-2003, 09:24 PM It's commonly available in alot of places here in the states. Not that it wouldn't work.

They already have these shops in Texas.
wakeech 05-18-2003, 10:52 PM oh neat... we've never heard of anything like it here...
well, if those places exist, and make money, all the better. good stuff.
hikoboy 05-18-2003, 11:02 PM call me stupid, but just an amusing wonderment of mine..would it be possible (i guess anything's possible), or realistic to build cars with independent front and rear breaking pedals? pretty sure someone has already thought of this or tried this before but could it actually go into production?
hikoboy 05-19-2003, 01:13 AM i swear, i end more threads than anyone else here...and not because it's a closing comment... :(
maybe i should disappear.

Yes, it's possible. In Australia the grass-roots motorsport is called Motorkhana, and involves tight maneuvering aroung flags on loose surfaces. Many purpose-built "motorkhana specials" are short spaceframes with a Mini engine and front-wheel drive. These vehicles often have separate brake pedals for front and rear wheels, because depending on the maneuver, you often want to lock up only one end.
But I'm not sure why you'd want anything like that in a mass-production car?!?
cueball 05-19-2003, 01:51 PM Back to Wakeech's idea:
I would be willing to pay up to $5 to get certain videos or music converted to modern format. Something that you may want to look into is if there is software that would "cleanup" the data. I beleive there is software that cleansup audio, but I am unsure if there is anything like this for videos. If that was incorperated into the conversion then it would be well worth it.
Wakeech,
Gots to be careful if you ever decided on this little venture. You can have legal action against you. I heard there was this software company that makes a program where it lets you make copies of DVD's. Right now I believe hollywood is winning the court battle with the software company. So you should read up on the copyright laws.
On the side note: I think the entertainment industries are becoming more and more greedy. They make so much money already. I think of them nothing less then pinko scums.
ilovepotatos 05-19-2003, 07:15 PM Yeah, really. Keech, I dunno what to say. I could spend 200 dollars on a nice new video card, with video input. Then I could hook up my computer to my TV. Then I could easily burn a CD/DVD of whatever I choose. Just remember that about 60% of small businesses/restaurants that open may do well for the first couple months, but then nobody comes back. And how many people really want their Tapes put into DVD format? Okay, so its possible that quite a few do, but they'd only do maybe 1 or 2 tapes. Possibly 5 at the most. $25 tops for each customer, ever. Say you got 200 customers. That's about 5 grand. Is that worth it? I gaurantee you not 1/5 of them would get more than 1.
I don't want to be negative, but you really have to be careful with businesses. They're very unstable in todays world. One day you're rich, then next you lost your house because you put all your money in a business. I'll just go and hide before you respond with your artillery. *Gets the hell outa the Louge Chair*
TiRX8 05-19-2003, 07:18 PM It's been done Keecho!! Here in Canada!!!!!
