Jrook 12-08-2004, 12:32 AM yeah the thread went from ny to cali
...and the full story (which the original forum has since removed due to too much traffic) is a 600kb+ html in this zip file which was posted at another forum (where the file is corrupt and would not unzip properly until I repaired the archive)...
Interesting read!
XDEEDUBBX 12-08-2004, 12:55 AM whats up with that video?? did he do anything to the house?
ibfubar2000 12-08-2004, 12:58 AM no he did nothing to the house just left the note. not going to do any bodily damage just sending hm lots of junk mail and junk email. kinda sounds like fun, i know of a few friends that have been scammed by an ebay sale. bet they would love to have fun with this too.
rotarygod 12-08-2004, 01:32 AM I just had a guy in Canada deliberately screw me over on eBay. I wish I could get the same thing to happen with him too.
markd 12-08-2004, 01:45 AM ACK! All this eBay scamming is freaking me out because I've just recently gotten into purchasing things on their and at half.com. Is there any protection if it happens or to keep it from happening??
rotarygod 12-08-2004, 03:14 AM There is protection. You can file with eBay and in some instances get your money back minus $20 and shipping charges. That can add up to quite a bit. However, it doesn't always protect you very well.
In my case, I ordered a rear wing for my RX-7 from Mr. Albert Pope in St. John's, New Foundland, Canada. He advertised it with a picture of it on the car in perfect shape. I sent him the money but he never sent me an e-mail confirmation. I repeatedly asked for a tracking number but never got a response. After a few weeks with no word, I sent him an e-mail saying I would file against him through eBay. Still no response. Did this over several days. One day I get a message saying his e-mail is no longer working. I looked up his info on eBay and called his house. Yes I still have the number. Whoever aswered the phone said he was out but I got his cell phone number. I called it and couldn't get him for a few days. Finally one day he answered it. I spoke to him and told him of my continued attempts to contact him. He stated that he never got any of the e-mails because he lives really far out in the sticks. He said that he sent the wing out the day after he got the money frm me which was over 3 weeks earlier. He said that it sometimes takes a long time for shipping from where he's at.
A few days pass and a large box finally arrives. The box is in perfect shape. I open it up and it isn't packed all that impressively. The 3 parts to the wing are wrapped individually in newspaper. The wrapping is not ripped or damaged. There is just a lack of packing material in the rest of the box. I unwrap each piece. Immediately I see that one of the pieces is severely damaged. It is broken to the point that there are fibergalss pieces of the wing broken off that are physically missing. If looks like he pried it off the car with a crowbar. Another piece was also broken off. There appears to be a screw that was not removed and the piece was broken as the piece pryed off the car. That large piece is also missing. The final piece is the only one that was intact. Needless to say, I'm pissed. I'm good with fiberglass but I don't want to have to rebuild the entire thing. This thing was not advertised as broken. Lie #1.
I looked at the shipping date on the box. It was only a little over a week earlier. He had told me on the phone that it had shipped out nearly a month earlier. Lie #2. I also looked up records of all e-mails sent to him. The first message that I sent to him wondering what was going on (after a few weeks frm the bid win date) was the day BEFORE he shipped it out. Apparently he got pissed that I actually wanted my part and that I could put up with it however he wanted to give it to me. Out of spite he rips it from the car, throws it in a box, and sends it. He had some feedback but only 1 other seller feedback. Unforunately it was negative. The buyer complained that it was packed poorly for shipping and that the piece was broken in route. The seller's response was that it was packaged just fine and was not his responsibility.
What's his excuse with me? Damaged in shipping? He wont' return my e-mails or answer my phone calls. He bitched in the other negative feedback that the buyer didn't give him a chance to rectify the situation and that he just gave him negative feedback. I'm trying to give him a chance to rectify it. He ignores me. The sad thing is that if I leave him negative feedback, he'll leave it for me too. My package was most certainly not damamged in shipping. These things are very thick heavy fiberglass. I could run over one with the car and probably not hurt it. Remember that the box was in perfect shape when I got it and the internal packing was not ripped. If it was damaged in shipping, I'd have seen signs such as a damaged box or ripped packaging. I'd also have every single broken piece still inside the box. They aren't there. There is alot missing.
This guy is a lying crook. His eBay name is apopenf Do not buy from him. He is 0 for 2 in the selling department.
Some people suck. Albert Pope, you're an ass!!!

How does he know it was an "empty" box of parts? Maybe it was an empty box of cupcakes or something... hard to tell if it was empty.
Gambit 12-08-2004, 07:38 AM A friend of mine bought a laptop on ebay and all he got was a box with three bricks in it
rx8wannahave 12-08-2004, 07:52 AM eBay....I have never had a bad experiance but my little sis has...twice, one her fault but the fact that eBay does not help you very much when someone is stealing from you REALLY makes me angry. How did you find out who the person was, there address...phone number?
In my opinion eBay makes TOO MUCH MONEY to be treating their customers like TRASH. They don't even have a 800# that I am aware of nor do they help you much when stuff like this happens. To me...eBay is more to blame than the scammer cause they do little to stop it!
man...are people checking feedbacks? I ALWAYS check feedback and if it's a high priced item I establish contact with the seller before bidding. usually I ask for a phone number and email address aside from their ebay account so i can verbally talk to them about the product...I have had no issues so far and have been pleased with every purchase..

Ditto. I've been on ebay since 1999. Don't blame ebay, blame their sellers. That's like blaming the mall for something one of their stores f'd up on. It's typical buyer beware and one cannot expect ebay to govern all the millions of transactions on a daily basis. Never buy from anyone whose feedback percent is less than 95% and make sure that they have multiple transactions as a seller. Anything shady, simple, don't buy. It's not worth saving that little money over and there are other people selling the same products willing to get your business.
BlueGrimRX8 12-08-2004, 11:21 AM I have to agree with czr and Xero. I have been on ebay since the beginning and have sold MANY things as well as bought way more than I should have. Very minor incidents have happened and none without some sort of rectification. NEVER buy from anyone with little feedback especially anything over $100. If they are a legitimate seller they will sell smaller things and get good feedback before going to the larger items. READ the persons feedback remember just looking at the number beside their name does not tell you everything. Neutral feedback does not show up in the number. Also take a look at their paypal account. See how many transactions they have had there, since ebay and Paypal have teamed up there are a lot of protection options. Contacting the buyer before hand great advice!
foxman 12-08-2004, 11:53 AM "A few months ago, I bought an expensive Movado watch from what seemed like a reputable wholesaler on Ebay with good feedback. The guy smoked me BAD, and I was a victim of mail fraud to the punishment of a couple hundred dollars."
Actually it was a watch or an empty box where a watch should have been. That thread that was removed from fbody is hilarious. The scammer was totally pimped over in many interesting and creative ways.
Smoker 12-08-2004, 12:18 PM This guy is finished, they sign him up for the army, sending him pizzas all day and one of those guys is in the real estate business and I think he is putting his house up for sale .... nice...
Jrook 12-08-2004, 04:35 PM I almost got scammed myself bougth a system didn't get it till i called the sellers house he was shocked in three days I received my goods.
And Gin how did you fix that file
rx8wannahave 12-08-2004, 05:19 PM Now, I have never had a problem with eBay...and I blame my little sis a little for what happend to her (did not check feedback or read the listing correctly) but...
BUT, eBay not haveing a 800# or giving me the sellers name and address is what made me mad at eBay. Again, I have never had an issue either...but eBay acts like they are protecting the bad seller more than the victim...for that, I'm mad at eBay!
I treat eBay like a local swap meet. If I get some faulty merchandise from a merchant at the swap meet, I would proceed to do some ass kicking upon the seller, not the fairgrounds owner. At best I would only expect the property owner to prevent that merchant from coming back.
And Gin how did you fix that file
Downloaded the file, saved it, and used WinRAR to repair the archive.
