I bought an automatic 8 a few months ago. I am not happy with the take-off at all. Very slow. What's the best way to improve that? Thanks.

DreRX8 12-07-2004, 07:49 AM Wait until your warranty is up--at that point Turbocharge it with the RE Amemiya Turbo, trade it in on a 6spd, or trade it in on the upcoming SMG or 5 spd auto hi-power RX8 that is 'on the way'. Anything you do to it now would be for aesthetics only, intake/exhaust on these cars yield very few benefits, even on the 6-spds. If I were you I would not focus on accelerative performance--suspension mods would benefit if you are into auto crossing; the auto RX8 is an acceptable autocross car. therm8 12-07-2004, 09:09 AM Lighten her up: wheels, pulleys, battery, exhaust(could save alot of weight with titanium), brake rotors, reducing rotational and any other mass would help. But it ain't cheap unless you start ripping out seats, audio system etc (which i'm sure isn't what your after) dmp 12-07-2004, 09:12 AM Do you launch while power-braking? Hold the brake pedal down, Rev the engine as high as you can...leggo the brake pedal. :) Burn-out! :) shelleys_man_06 12-07-2004, 09:27 AM I bought an automatic 8 a few months ago. You'll be very disappointed. Read this old thread. http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=20148 robertdot 12-07-2004, 09:37 AM Do a search or look at the bottom of the page under "Similar Threads". Icemastr 12-07-2004, 11:36 AM Remove 1000 lbs that should make it pretty quick. 8is>enuff 12-07-2004, 12:52 PM ^ and then push it off a cliff. Or you can wait for some sort of FI for the auto. rotarygod 12-07-2004, 01:15 PM I bought an automatic 8 a few months ago. I am not happy with the take-off at all. Very slow. What's the best way to improve that? Thanks. I'm not trying to be harsh on you here but if you aren't happy with it, you shouldn't have bought it. Since you want to have more practical daily drivable power, nitrous is out. Intakes and exhausts won't get you hardly anything. Your best option will probably be a positive displacement supercharger. Hymee is working on one now that uses a twin screw supercharger. If you just want more power but don't care about winning any races then you could also look into the Pettit supercharger kit. Anything you do is going to be pricey so don't expect a cheap solution. You can have what you want. How much you are willing to pay to get it is up to you. WaitingforFI 12-07-2004, 05:43 PM Since you want to have more practical daily drivable power, nitrous is out. If you just want more power but don't care about winning any races then you could also look into the Pettit supercharger kit. Why is nitrous out of the question for a daily driver...? If all you want is a little extra kick once in a while do you think the nitrous will dammage the auto tranny? I would like to think that the slushbox wouldnt trun into gray soup if you did, say a 50hp shot once in a while; however it will not provide constant hp gains like a turbo system. rotarygod 12-07-2004, 05:50 PM He doesn't want more kick every once in a while. He wants mroe every time he has to get the car moving. How long do you think a nitrous tank would last if it sprayed constantly? Nitrous isn't practical in this application. It is strictly only temporary. A supercharger or turbo isn't. RXE16T 12-07-2004, 06:05 PM I bought an automatic 8 a few months ago. I am not happy with the take-off at all. Very slow. What's the best way to improve that? Thanks. Didn't you drive the thing before you bought it? You would have had to have done some research on the 8 and would be aware that the auto was lower in hp than the manual........... no alarm bells rang in your head? WaitingforFI 12-07-2004, 06:56 PM Does anyone know of any way to beef up the auto tranny. I've seen kits offered for your typical american car, but do they offer anything for the RX8? Also, do you think that the 50 hp nitrous shot will dammage the tranny? JeRKy 8 Owner 12-07-2004, 08:37 PM You can trade the automatic Rx8 for a manual Rx8. Thats how you make YOUR Rx8 faster than what it is now. But youstill wont have a fast car either way so... mdwitty 12-08-2004, 12:09 AM I mostly bought the car for the way that it looks. However, I would also like to make it faster. Yes, I did know that the manual had more hp and was faster than the auto. Yes, I also noticed it when I test drove it as well. Doesn't mean I can't make it go faster later!! I hear many people say just do this, just do that and you will gain more speed. Look at all the posts and you will see people all over the board on what to do to the car. I am not looking at racing, just something to give it a decent amount of power off the line. Anyone hear that has an auto knows how it feels when people always ask, "Is it fast?" My only answer, "It handles well." mdwitty 12-08-2004, 12:14 AM I'm not trying to be harsh on you here but if you aren't happy with it, you shouldn't have bought it. So, if I said that I didn't like the tires, what are the best tires that I should get for it to handle better, would you still have that response? Unless you are completely satisfied with a car, you shouldn't buy it? Then why is everybody spending so much money to change a car that everyone should be happy with? rotarygod 12-08-2004, 12:21 AM I still gave you an alternative didn't I? Supercharger. At least I didn't say sell it and buy a standard. Tires are cheap and easy to change. Significantly changing an engine's power output is not. Hybrid-RX8 12-08-2004, 08:17 AM If your simply looking for a tad more kick off the line.. try getting a torque converter. I don't think anyone currently makes one, so I guess you may have to contact a manufacturer to see what they can do. Level 10 is one company that comes to mind. canaryrx8 12-08-2004, 09:15 AM I mostly bought the car for the way that it looks. However, I would also like to make it faster. It has to be, it's yellow! :D canaryrx8 12-08-2004, 09:16 AM ^ and then push it off a cliff. dang, pretty crappy thing to say, what does posting this accomplish? 8is>enuff 12-08-2004, 09:48 AM I thought it was obvious it was a joke. I was going to tell him to drive it downhill with a tail wind, but he's probably tried that. To answer your question, I guess it didn't accomplish anything except make me giggle when I wrote it. Possibly quite like this contribution - My auto is the fastest car in the world! It has to be, it's yellow! :D - or people telling him to trade it in on a manual. If you or mdwitty were offended, I apologize, but you gotta lighten up. Thick_azz8 12-08-2004, 02:32 PM drive down a very big hill at WOT JeRKy 8 Owner 12-08-2004, 02:49 PM I lovereading posts by the manual owners that tellautomatic owners to go buy a 6spd Rx8 in order to havea fast car. Funnypart is that they actually think their car is fast too. Rxdriftingaction 12-08-2004, 02:51 PM the best way is..!!! trade in ur car.. and add 5 more k to get a evo.. 6k=gain 80hp 0~60 improve almost 2s..!! it's cool !!! by the way.. u will get a 4wd also..!!! mdwitty 12-09-2004, 12:28 PM Rotarygod, Yes you did give an alternative. Although great tires can be expensive, I never said I wanted to change the engine's output significantly. It was more the principal behind the comment I was trying to get across. 8is enuff I wasn't offended at all. There are a lot of comments in this forum that don't accomplish anything but do make the poster chuckle when they type it. I'm guilty of it as well. Does yellow paint really make a car faster? :) DreRX8 12-09-2004, 12:59 PM All these bad auto/manual jokes aside--just be patient--wait for warranty to be up and then turbo/supercharge it. Until then--you may get 5-10HP from an exhaust system--but even then you won't really feel any significant change. With the auto--go for styling mods and/or suspension. I am kinda 'pimpin' mine out--custom leather interior done, 1/2" thick floor mats with personalised embroidery done, Infinity Kappa speakers all the way around, sub coming soon. My auto 8 plans are keep it until I finish dental school at which point I'll boost it or trade it in on a better RX8 (6spd or Mazdaspeed). If I boost it I will definately get another vehicle in addition to it. mikeb 12-09-2004, 07:06 PM . Anyone hear that has an auto knows how it feels when people always ask, "Is it fast?" My only answer, "It handles well."
