View Full Version : CEL and Converter Conversion Code?

My 8 with 8500 miles on it threw a CEL this morning so I took it to the dealer. The service advisor told me that the code showing was PO 420 for a converter conversion code. He said that Mazda does not have a fix for this so they would call me when it was available. It goes against everything that I have been taught to drive a car with a CEL on. I am also not so naive that I believe in a perfect car but I do feel that a manufacturer should be able to repair their products. Has anyone else run across this? I don't trust the service department personnel as they have not shown much knowledge about the 8 so far. Any information would help. Thanks!

CEL...I've heard that stated before but I don't know what it is. What is it? Service light?

A solid-on CEL is not necessarily a serious problem (even a loose gas cap will cause it). If the CEL is flashing, that's where you need to stop driving immediately.

OH, that's what I thought. So, if it flashes it's real bad...good, cause my wife's 6 engine light just turned on Sunday and I'm taking it in tomorrow.

Thanks for the info!

You need a new converter..The tech's shouldn't need to get help with that one.

I posted in reference to this yesterday..was your car ever flooded?

No, my car was never flooded by me. There is always the chance that the dealership flooded it before I purchased the car.
