I think I don't have and don't found the "common-problem" about my RX8.
I have the memory wrote in other post about the door.
The fuel efficiency of my RX-8 is around 6km/l under 4000rpm (only city area)

This is only my case.
I ride in a car from the left door (my car is RH) in my garage, Because that's restricted from the position of the door of my house.
When I ride in my car the center-console is always obstructive for me.:D

The rainy season of Japan is near. It will start in June and continue till the middle of July.:confused:

Many drivers still watch and Focus to my RX-8 with surprised face.:cool:

If my calculation is correct, that is about 14 miles per US Gallon.

OK, someone please tell me that my quick math is incorrect. Six Km/L is the same as 14.1 MPG! God I hope I'm wrong! :(

Would make 16,7 ltrs/100km. This is much worse than expected. I only hope this is not true..... :(

Maybe he meant to say 9 km/l which is something like 21 mpg or even better 16 km/l (38 mpg :D ). Anyhow, some of us just don't care much about the RX-8's fuel economy, we just want this car so much!!

wow 14 mpg maybe they were correct about rotaries being gas guzzlers.

ahhhhh? maybe he MEANT to say 6km/l. How can you interprete something into Eastmoon's written statement which is not there. That is wishful thinking! Not to call it r.... If you all can live with a gas-guzzler and you don't care, or compare to a V8, it's o.k. for u. For me it is not. If it consumes too much I will certainly not get it or I simply cannot afford this. I live in f**ing Germany :(

That is surprisingly low gas mileage, especially since it is the standard power automatic. Just imagine if us that have the high power version end up revving it a little. We'll end up with like 12 mpg if not worse, not to mention that we have to pay for premium gas! I know this is a sports car, but damn! Even a 2003 Mustang Cobra with a standard supercharger averages better than that!

Ok, this may have put a little bit of doubt into my purchase........ :(

And there was me shying away from my 350Z because of the 22mpg. Ho ho ho!

14 mpg is not unrealistic
- a possibly 'tight' new motor,
- he might idle it a good while, to 'warm it up'
- it's Japan, the definition of 'short trips'
- its 'warm-up-the-cat-quick' cycle is probably ON all the time
(just like riding round with the 'choke' on)

According to the book I recieved from Mazda the fuel consumption is as follows.

Us EPA Estmate - High Powered Standard Power
City - mpg 20.4 20.3
Highway - mpg 30.2 31.6
Combined - mpg 23.9 24.2

Europe Combined (NEFC)
High Power 6-Speed L/100 km 11.3 - 11.6
Standard Power 6-Speed L/100 km 10.7 - 11.0

Thanks, EASTMOON, that comforts me! I am sorry, I was not in Japan yet (worked for Fujitsu-Siemens briefly, but was not sooo good) but I have been travelling a lot in USA.

One question, pls: Do you really count mileage in km/liters? I think this is odd, you should calculate with 3-digits after the decimal maybe, as a small variance would already make such a BIG impact....

Anybody: What is the EXACT way to recalculate from European (liters/km) to American numbers? Pls somebody help me.....?! Tnx!

BTW: I really love the RX-8, driven some hundred kms just to see it, and I DON'T want this MPG fact a SHOW STOPPER. It makes big headaches though (just a for some other people, Lensman?) :eek:

220 KM / 35 L : 6.28 KM / 1L (...all data is "around")

Thanks for the figures. Yes, I calm down a bit after seeing the figures in the Far East forum (again, have forgotten those). I think if I calculate right: 6,3 km/ltr = 16,0 ltr/100km = 14,7 MPG. That's quite high consumption.... Hope to see lower figures in future...?! To be honest, my maximum would be 8,3 km/ltr = 12,0 ltr/100km = 19,6 MPG. What do you think, Herr Lensman? :) BTW: Your gasoline price is pretty much the same like here, about 1,10 EUR/ltr. 75% or more taxes though...

If you look at all the tests done my Road & Track, Car & Driver, Motor Trend, Automobile, etc. You will find most of them score between 14 and 18 mpg with some going as high as 21-22 mpg for short stints on the highway, but if you all think these cars are going to be fuel efficient, you are insane. The laws of physics are pretty hard to beat. You have combustion that takes place and fuel is need for that. You have a 9,000 RPM readline, which I imagine most of us will use to the fullest once the break in period is over. The math on fuel flow, rate of combustion and rate of fuel consumption are going to be higher.

Now, with that said, I have heard of this type of thing becomeing MORE fuel efficient when adding a turbo to them. Then when you are in an uphill cycle, the turbo just kicks in rather than having to spin the engine up to compensate thus saving gas on average. I just find it ironic that my 3,400 lb 445hp Porsche 911 Twin Turbo was more fuel efficient than the RX-8 will be. The 911 Turbo yielded 25-26 mpg highway and 18-21 mpg in mixed mode and 14-16 mpg when playing hard.

No problems to report other than the oil light coming on a few times (see Red line thread).

JSG; you had mentioned seat, door, vibrating stick at idle problems before, the first being most serious. I had a friend who bought Mazda 929 with fully power seats (to the hilt) and
he never liked them. He ditched the car for an Audi with
no Power seat option and was a very happy camper.

Seat: think I just sat in it too long! The first day with the car I just didn't want to stop driving so did something like 5-6 hours straight! (bad I know) It'll be interesting to see other peoples view on this when you guys get your cars. I think it could be to do with no reach adjustment on the wheel, and it being designed in general around a shorter person. Although my wife is tiny and she has problems changing gear as she has the seat so far forward the stick is right out to the side with the side cushion bolster blocking her shoulder. I think I'm making it sound a lot worse than it really is!

Door & stick: we all have to live with those. I would classify them as imperfections rather than problems.

JSG ,ONE OF MY PET HATES IS NOT HAVING GOOD VISIBILITY FROM THE SIDE MIRRORS OR from the rear view mirror is this a problem with the rx8 ,i drove the 350z and the visibility was poor when reversing or tryng to change lanes .Also i found the 350z hard on your hand the steering gets heavy after a while,hows the steering .You mentioned the brakesare not up to scratch is this only on your rx8 or have others mentioned this. thanks for taking the time to answer our questions.
