Chrome Plated RX-8 Rims

Thinking about chrome plating the stock RX-8 rims on my car. I'm looking at $945(all 4 rims) for a triple plating job plus shipping and handling. Anyone knows or have pictures of something like this done to their RX-8s. What whould be the pros and cons? Thanks.

I've thought about doing it (also think about buying new wheels)....but that sounds a bit expensive. Keep us posted.

You could just buy a set from Mazda already chromed, and then sell yours if you didn't need a spare set:

I've been thinking about doing this, but keeping the crappy painted OEM ones for my winter tires

The ones Mazda sells are a dark chrome and almost $400 a piece. From what I understand, triple plating is just as good as buying aftermarket chrome rims. ibfubar2000, where did you go if you don't mind me asking.

Or you can do it yourself: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-polish-your-factory-wheels-%2470-each-37805/ . Requires a lot more effort but much cheaper than the alternatives.

I would just buy the Mazda chrome rims instead of chroming the ones you have now or polishing. Chrome always looks alot more shinny than polish anyways and lasts longer as well.

I found a custom shop that will powder coat mine for $200.00.
I am thinking about black, white , or rd for my velocity red RX8. Also adding some metalflake like is on the car. What do you guys think about color.

mt chrome wheels on my yellow car. $600.00 + trade in of old wheels. (or $800.00 more for core charge) aftermarket chrome on factory wheels, I really like they way they look, plus my wheel sensors still work :D

A gunmetal look (black/gray with metal flake) would look sharp IMO.

That does sound good. Are there any paint experts who can tell me whether after it is powder coated it needs to be clearcoated, and if the flake is in the powdercoat or put on after. Also what about a tw part epoxyclear coat for final finish. Wouldn't that be the hardest finish. I have done some painting on aluminum in the past myself and managed to buff out the final clear to a mirror finish. That is my goal with this. I think gunmetal with metal flake would look good.
