View Full Version : Most boring car on the road?
MRocks 05-15-2003, 09:55 AM What do you guys think is the most boring car on the road? I hate, hate, HATE the Camry. It's amazing to see how this is one of the best selling cars when there's nothing really special about it. Every model they've come out with has looked like crap. I can see that it's a practical, affordable car, but so is the Altima and Accord. The Accord styling isn't that great either but then again it's better than the Camry. And there's also the Mazda 6 which looks so much better than these sedans right now. But I can't figure out when people are shopping around for a new car and they have enough money for the 4 mentioned above, and in the end, they just say "ahh I'll take the camry." It's so bland! Do these buyers have no taste at all? What do you guys think?
joofntool 05-15-2003, 10:04 AM I think the camry takes it. It has gotten a little better styling with this last turn (looking like its Lexus big brother in some repects) but when i see the camry i think.......
Plain vanilla ice-cream....no sprinkles.....no cherries.....not even a handjob.
Its so blah!
Runner up maybe Ford Focus?
MRocks 05-15-2003, 10:08 AM No way, the car has always been fugly. And the LexES300? I mean at least try to differentiate your cars! That one is ugly as hell too!
Elara 05-15-2003, 10:10 AM Camry, Accord, or Civic- they all pretty much blur into one if you ask me. So many cars now look exactly like every other car on the road- I HATE that...
MRocks 05-15-2003, 10:41 AM Yea, all the Japanese sedans look too similar to one another. Anyone see the new Galant yet? Looks like a carbon copy of the new Maxima, which looks like S to begin with.
Yup the Camry is definetly UP there. I sat in one at a dealer (Looking at cars in that price range), it made me ILL!
The seats were made for lard ass grandpas. (No offence to grandpas, or lard asses, I hope).
It was just Blah! At least the Accord has some style on the interior.
Vancouver 05-15-2003, 10:52 AM Not even with a crate of Viagra could one get horny about the Camry.
wakeech 05-15-2003, 11:01 AM the Camry is far more exciting than a base model Corolla... that kills it, hands down, for boredom factor.
MRocks 05-15-2003, 11:06 AM I dunno man, the Corolla has that exciting S model!
Smoker 05-15-2003, 11:07 AM You guys probably find the Camry "boring" because you guys are so bored of seeing them ! There are so many of them on the road !
But the Camry IS very very comfortable to drive, (so you can definitely say it is boring to drive) its almost like riding on a train. Its not a driver's car for sure but hey, there aren't many of us driver drivers out there. Most people just wanted to get from point A to point B as "uneventfully" as possible. Hence, one of the best selling cars around and, that's why Toyota is the one of the biggest fish in the water.
MRocks 05-15-2003, 11:12 AM I don't think it's cause I see so many around. Even if I saw one a month I still would hate the styling. I know many people just need a car thats practical but there are so many other choices that aren't as bland. The Altima looks really nice and you can get that cheap, the same goes for the 6.
billdo 05-15-2003, 11:31 AM Ford Taurus (sp), that car has no soul whatsoever. This car is the definition of "it gets me from a to b". Nothing wrong with that, if thats your thing, but it's a pretty boring car, IMHO.
Doctorr 05-15-2003, 11:58 AM SATURN.
You have to look at what it's NOT -
not fast,
not good looking,
not 'safer',
not big,
not cheap,
not nimble,
not even economical,
not stylish,
not quiet,
not a smooth ride,
not reliable,
not even liked by Consumer Reports!
.....I just can't even imagine the question, that 'Saturn' is the answer to!

MRocks 05-15-2003, 01:29 PM The Taurus has been discontinued. That's a really boring car. The SHO model made it look a little better but I don't know who would want to drive a sporty Taurus anyway. My friend used to own a '94 2 door Saturn, I believe it was the SC model. Really a big piece of crap but he loved it at the time and drove it like it was a sports car :D
Ah yes the Corolla "S" It's SOOOOO sporty.
"I Got, I love .... can't get enough of it!"
LOL

Obviously you've never driven a SHO. That is one of the most kick-ass sports sedans ever made- when I was in high school I used to stop-light race (yes, I was stupid in high-school) everything in sight, and won most every time. My family's now on it's second SHO, and it STILL beats the pants off most cars, handling and otherwise, even though it's now 8 years old. Now, the taurus on the other hand- not looking forward to giving up the Boxster tomorrow and going back to the station wagon till my 8 gets here. Ugh. I could drive it with my eyes shut.
And Wakeech is right- I forgot to add the Corolla to my list. I also find most Lexi (what is the plural for lexus?) look pretty similar.

'Plague' surely?
revhappy 05-15-2003, 02:55 PM How about almost any Buick?
lefuton 05-15-2003, 02:58 PM muah camry's are boooooring zzzZZZZZZ
the corolla looks kinda like a mazda6 from the rear.
oh and taurus SHO's... gotta love that kawasaki motor =p
MRocks 05-15-2003, 03:03 PM I've been in a Buick once before. The speedometer gauge are these huge digital numbers. Supposedly so the grandparents that drive them can see how slow they're going.
The Taurus SHO's motor was built by Yamaha, not Kawasaki.
later,
James
lefuton 05-15-2003, 05:15 PM okay =) it was just a vague memory =p and i took a guess
chinx 05-15-2003, 05:23 PM chevy malibu
they took a cool nameplate, and completely murdered it. looks about as generic and boring as it can get. looks like the generic car that i drew in kindergarten

Totally agree. My mother used to drive one and it was soooo boring. Didn't Chevy make a supercharged version of this car but it wasn't for sale? Sorta like what Ford did with the Contour. If so it wouldve made it a little better.
Spining Ncnratr 05-15-2003, 09:15 PM How about the Honda Element big box on wheels or the new Scion B coming out another box on wheels or the ASSTek by Pontiac but at least Pontiac knows a loser when they have one and discontinued it.
chinx 05-15-2003, 09:21 PM hmm...i don't think those're necessarily **boring** cars. they're just strange (and ugly). i actually like the element and at least think scion xB is interesting
but the aztec, definitely one bizarre and ugly car...and a huge marketing mistake...i'm real glad they discontinued it...wait i think it's still listed for 2003?!

rx-7~rx-8 05-16-2003, 12:32 AM most boring dull car is MERCURY SABLE and ALL BUICK's
Boozehound 05-16-2003, 01:06 AM Whoa... ALL Buicks? Lets not forget the Grand Nationals, T-Types, and a few GS's out there. My Buick was super sedate: snoozer ride, nothing exciting anywhere, but it was luxurious and decent to point down the highway and go. Who else had vanity mirrors in the back seat (that got all the chicks in college). Sure it was poison to enthusiasm even though I upgraded the struts and intake; but when parked and clean, it still looked stately, not like I just took the wrapper off of it (or in the case of Korean cars - just pulled it out of its six pack)
My list starts with silver and beige Accords and Camrys - decent appliances, but ZERO flavor. Most Mercurys and Tauruses are invisible to me, but the all time most boring cars EVER were....drumroll please.... K-CARS!!!!
billdo 05-16-2003, 01:58 PM A sporty taurus (non-sho) is definitely an oxymoron. But whats even worse is a taurus, or anyone of these cars, with personalized plates. Talk about polishing a turd. "doperide" just dosen't belong on the back of a taurus.

i have to disagree, and reiterate my comment about the base-model Toyota Corolla... any car in which i (a 6'3" 210lb guy) can get busy with a chick, in the back OR front seat, can NOT be considered dull. (it was an Impala, but the Impala and Malibu are like exactly the same, aren't they?)
rx-7~rx-8 05-16-2003, 08:44 PM does anyone know what mercury is going to do .. because there car's are so out dated.
rx-7~rx-8 05-16-2003, 08:45 PM buick ... century in 1989 ... my dad use to have one
that thing was boxed out and top speed was 80

I have a feeling that Mercury will be the next car company to go under if any.

Am Agree with you!
to some people I believe buying car is like buying white goods
just my 2 cents :D
Ford taurus : worst car ever.
MRocks 05-19-2003, 09:44 AM Yea, the Taurus is pretty boring. I guess Ford realized this, or that it wasn't selling as well recently and decided to discontinue it. I'm guessing that '49 concept or whatever it is will replace it.

its teh Grand Nationals that was refered to above.....not a impala model
was a nice turbo car with some nice capabilities (although i didnt like the look)
chinx 05-19-2003, 02:01 PM it wasn't a looker, but it was FAST. and it's now extremely collectible

the taurus replacement is not the '49. its another bread-and-butter sedan that looks kinda like the 427 showcar, which was awesome. 427 was rwd, v10-powered, and has 590hp. the taurus replacement, the futura, takes styling cues from the 427. i suspect it might be based on the mazda6. and on top of there there's gonna be another full-size sedan called the 500 that's bigger than the futura, kinda like a toyota avalon. so taurus kinda has 2 replacements
amidst all this taurus bashing, i must come to its defense. the taurus, while boring, is a pretty decent car. it's solidly built, nice and spacious, safe, and it serves your basic transportation needs well. and it's better-looking than the new camry. and its duratech v6 is one of the best v6's out there. it's not a sports sedan, but at least it used to have some character w/ the SHO, which, despite what some of you say, was for a time the fastest 4-door sedan made in america. so i stand by my choice that the most boring car is current chevy malibu, which is a disgrace to the malibu nameplate (btw current malibu and impala are not the same car)
moogle 05-20-2003, 05:26 PM people have diffrent views on how a car is.
Camry might be boring to you but to someone else it could be just as exciting. Maybe the look of it looks boring, have you ever driven a 86 toyota corolla... that looks boring, but its one of the wildest car out there.
