hey guys,

i just finished my advanced placement chemistry course and our professor is giving us the opportunity to do whatever we want as our final project. me and a friend wanted to do a project on how rotary engines worked, and we've got some plans in mind.

first, we have a connection to an actual rotary engine from a bodyshop friend of ours. but more importantly, we'd think it would be kinda cool to show the "newest application of this rotary revolution," the rx-8.

our presentation (and when we would need the rx-8) would be the last week of may. i'm being completely serious guys...do any of you know any mazda contacts from whom we could get an rx-8 from? or are any of you getting your rx-8 by or before the end of may? our school is in pasadena, california, for location purposes.

any help would be much appreciated. thanks in advance!

yea sure! as soon as I get my RX, i'll stuff it in a box and ship it right to ya! j/k man, good luck with finding someone who's courageous enough to have you "experiment" with his $30,000-$39,000 new toy that's he/she's been waiting for for the past few months...but who knows, you could get lucky

your best bet, go to the dealership and "test drive" a tester...open up the engine compartment or whatever you need to do for your presentation on the demo car, but act like you're interested in buying one

guys guys guys!! hey, he's being serious... that's enough teasing :)

anyways, it'd be neat if you just did a little shpiel on the RX-8, but if you need like a "working" engine, just go to the local junkers and get your dad to pull a 10A out of the front of a first gen RX-7... light as hell, you can do it with your bare hands.
then, you can pull it apart and show them all kinds of things, do whatever you want with it, really.

...your chem teacher doesn't need to be THAT impressed to get an A ;) it's not like a thesis defence.
but if you got a junker engine for a model/experiment, i'd be impressed.

A local dealership had an 8 for a couple of days last month. Next to the 8 they had a little table with a half of a 12A motor. The shaft was connected to an electric motor that turned the rotors. The front was covered by a piece of plexiglass so you could see but not touch.

My wife thought it was cool.
