i know mazda isnt the first with the freestyle doors, but i just found it interesting to find that previously mazda has implemented them before in their pickups.

on a related side note, does anyone watch Entourage, and know what is that car in the intro, its a convertable..

Those technically aren't freestyle doors because of the center pillar right?

you are correct...they are just suicide doors

mazda RX-8 is the first car with dual pillarlesss suicide doors (pillar is integrated into door of course)

please correct me if I'm wrong

The ford ranger utilizes freestyle doors with no center pillar, the Mazda pickups are basically Ford Rangers so I assume the extended cab extra door Mazda pickups are the same way.

most extended cab trucks with 'freestyle' rear hinged rear doorlets have no center pillar, IIRC...

yes our car has *gasp* pickup truck doors

Let us not forget the ugly little saturn with the 3rd (but not 4th) door

Yup, cool idea but why only one side? pretty sure Saturn is going to go the way of Oldsmobile, lots of older cars on the road but you just don't see a lot of newer ones out there, kinda' makes you wonder how they stay alive?

Umm Saturn is GM's economy car division, it isn't having any sales problems.
