I'm hurting having to give up my 1993 VW Corrado VR6 SLC which is in immaculate condition. Just wondering what everyone else is giving up?

A 1994 Madza Mx-3, which needs a new A/C compressor and is up for a timing belt change. I would hardly say that I'm giving it up, more like Donating it to a worthy cause.

It's been a really good car, but It's certianly time for something new...

I am:

1. Stopping all maintence except for oil Changes and tire rotations on my 2001 Z28. I am trying to pay it off so I can use it as a downpayment rather than an upside down trade in.
2. Cut my budget only saving toward an RX8. Not buying fun stuff.
4. Reducing my 401K to the bare minimum.
5. Cancelled my $60 / Month Kickboxing Classes.
6. Selling misc stuff in garage sales.

I still might not be able to get one because I had to help my wife with a $2000 downpayment on a brand new SUV. She suddenly needed a new car when I mentioned getting an RX8.

98 V-6 Accord Coupe with a few mods. I gotta sell some of my old stuff I have laying around too. Saving up for the Rex, no eating out for a while and saving every penny I get.

Nothing! I have an '87 RX-7 TII that I just can't part with due to the emotional distress it would cause :) The home I'm currently designing will have a 3.5 car garage, so I'll have a place to store it. Until then, I'll probably park it at work!

1988 Mercury Grand Marquis - No heat, good AC though. Runs good but needs a new paint job. 120,000. Most owners drove slow (i.e. they were my grandparents).

It was and is a cheap car but its time for a little more performance and little less space. anybody want it just make me an offer.

I'm giving up a few careless nights of revelry and some fine dining of women...

a '91 chrysler new yorker mark cross ed. now you can see why I'm so anxious to get my 8!!!!!! (I hope its turning radius and curb weight are an improvement lol)

Nothing, unless you count the pleasure of driving a 93 Taurus station wagon every day as a loss. I've been driving the car I borrowed from my mother for more than a year and a half now while I wait for my RX-8. And I've been thinking that when we buy a house with a garage, I'll try to find an older RX-7 to tinker around with as well.

99 Miata with a bunch of suspension mods. Weather has been so nice I am going to hate to give it up. Actually, I have a choice: give up the Miata or a 2002 BMW R1150R motorcycle- tough choice- both are a lot of fun...

a '93 mitsu 3000gt . love the car but with 150k+ miles it's about done for. hopefully the extra power in a lighter car - and real usable back sets will be a plus seeing as how the ones in my car now barely hold my 3 year old brother!

definitely going for the a-spec body kit for that low to the ground look-(have coilovers on my 3kgt)

very anxiuos to hear the bose system as I have completely redone the sound system in every car i have owned

I'm giving up my '97 Miata. This is by far the most difficult part of getting the RX-8. I just can't justify keeping it, the RX-8 AND the Explorajo (yes, I'm a Mazda stooge, but the 'jo doesn't really count).

I gave up driving my ultra sporty 91 Park Avenue. It was hell, and I'll never get the same looks as I drive by the retirement castle, but I think I made the right decision. And if the right deal came along, I'd give up my 83 for garage space and lowered insurance rates.

Oh yes, and I'll also give up walking. I'm driving EVERYWHERE! :D :D :D

'96 Camaro Z28 6 spd. w/ 102k miles. I'm sure I'll miss it, but the last two cars I've had were F-bodies and it is time for a change. I hope I enjoy the test drive...otherwise I'm keeping my car and dumping cash into fixing it up and making it straight line fast.

Don't give up the R1. You can't beat the performance of the R1. I'm keeping my Duc. As a matter of fact I'm thinking of also buying a 999. I'm giving up my 2001 626 (Trade in), but my wife is giving up her 300m for the X5. She's getting it next friday. Can't wait to drive it. Keep the bike. You'll be sorry if you get rid of it. I've been there.

Two cars -

1995 Dodge Neon with 110,000 miles -- it's been a decent car, although it's needed a fair amount of repair work. Not terribly fast or powerful.

Funny thing... it was stolen last November, we recovered it in December.

My fiancee's parents drove out her deceased grandmother's 1983 Cadillac Seville to give me something to drive after it was stolen (and before recovered).

In the meantime, I was thinking about what car to get, started looking at the Mazda 6, RX-8, and others....

... tried a 1994 Dodge Stealth, but was persuaded against it, decided I liked the power, and set my sights on the RX-8.

So I'm also planning to trade in the Caddy. I don't know how much I'll get for either or both cars, but every little bit helps...

2001 Lexus IS300 in Spectra Blue Mica (best blue ever and only available in the first year as the paint cost too much) with 45k miles. After a one year hiatus I finally got to drive the car again as of last week and it is fantastic - great steering, smooth inline 6, nimble etc. To me it's plenty fast enough but sadly it's a 5-speed auto. The RX-8 should be better in almost every way (except perhaps build quality and service) and have a great 6MT so it will be no hardship to give up the IS300.

CV joints are cracking, even when I go straight. Auto-trans shifts poorly, radio display shorted out 2 years ago. Otherwise it is in very good condition. Excellent boring car.

I'm giving up my 2001 Yamaha V Star Custom motorcycle.

Not a big loss though, especially since my wife has been wanting me to get rid of it for a while now. It's a great crusier and been garage kept with only ~1200 miles on it so it looks like new except for right around the rim of the brake fluid reservoir on the right handle bar. When I took it in for the first service, they must not have tightened the screws on the lid very tight and over time, a little brake fluid seeped out around where the lid meets up with reservoir and has made the surface of the aluminum just around the seam of the reservoir look a little "flaky". She deserves to be run more frequently than I have the time to, but I definitely still both start her up if it's been a while, or take her for a ride. :)

Incase anyone's interested... recent oil change too! :)

Dumping my 1998 Dodge Stratus and my 40mpg on cross-country trips. If the 8 shows up in July, then I'll probably just hit 100k miles on the Stratus. And the cash, of course, to make up the difference -- that'll take the rest of the year to get the bank balance back up to where it is now.

Picked up on 06/27/02. "T-boned" on 05/10/03. Luckily, i was the only one in the car. Being antisocial has it's perks. :p
The way i look at it, God wanted me to get an RX-8. :D An e-mail would've sufficed.

But I'm sure the RX-8 will more than replace the golf.

Got to be doing it for the right reasons though, if there are any flaws in your justification for giving up then your tortured brain will find them soon enough.

If you're running Windows, look for a proggy called SilkQuit, it runs in the systray and keeps track of precisely how much money you've saved and how much you've increased your life expectancy.

As for me, I'm giving up a '97 BRG MX-5 1.8 (old shape), I haven't broken the news to her yet...

- nice car but just too big for one person.

I know the rx8 is a four seater but seeing as most of my mates are 6 ft and over they wont all fit on the rx8 haha.

I'm giving up my 99 Millenia S. It only has 50k miles on it, and is in immaculate condition.....but it is kind of a boring car and I am in need of a change.

The 8 is just a better fit for me. I'm 33 years old, and that Millenia just seems like too much of an "old man" car for me.

I'm keeping my RX-7 though!! 2 rotaries in the garage soon!:D
