Back in march I bought a stero system for my bedroom. It is a 5 speaker Panasonic SC-AK66. It is a 5 speaker unit and I recently added a small sony subwoofer. Today bought a TV for the bedroom and attempted to use the system as a surround sound unit. I was using my PS2 as a DVD player. The problem I am having is that there is RCA plugs for front, rear, center, and subwoofer on the back of the stereo. The cord coming out of my playstation only has the left and right audio plugs. This limits my listening to only two of the 5 speakers. I was very disapointed by this and was wondering if anyone knows if I am doing something wrong, or I need a different DVD player, or my system won't support 5:1 surround sound. Here is a link (http://shopping.yahoo.com/shop?d=zbok&id=1990607390&clink=dmks/sc-ak66/ctx=mid:6,pid:1990607390,pdid:6,t:3,ht:1,loc:,pos: 0,spc:14489115,date:20030512,srch:kw,x:1&__yltc=s:14489115,d:57690361,test:5,src:srch,w:cat-pt,stid:yahooelectronicsshopping,mid:6,pid:1990607 390,p:143.99,k:SC-AK66,x:1,pos:0,ppos:0) to a webpage with the specs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: The DVD I was using was lord of the rings and I did turn on the 5:1 option.

i use my ps2 as the dvd player all the time and have it run in to my surround system. the first thing you should do is get a fire wire cable to run out from the ps2 into your tuner. also in the menus of the ps2 there is a place to turn on the surround sound. make sure that is on. turning on the ps2 without a disc in makes it easier to get to the system menus. the first time i thought i did that i hadn't and it caused me much grief until i went back and checked it and turned it on.
edit: i should have read the specs first. upon reading them i don't see a mention of an optical(fire wire) input, so you may be out of luck. you might need to buy a new receiver/tuner.

Yep that's exactly right, you have to have a Receiver that accepts Optical cables out to get full surround sound.

That Panasonic unit has a Dolby Surround decoder, but it does not have a Dolby Digital 5.1 Decoder. You should be able to feed it with Dolby Surround through a single pair of RCA cables, but you have to have something in between the PS2 and the Panasonic unit that decodes Dolby Digital, and passes on the separate channels to the Panasonic.

i'd go a slightly different way. get a new receiver and run evrything through it out to the speakers. then the panasonice unit would just act as 5cd and tape player. run the tv sound through the receiver too. do you have cable running to the tv? how about a vcr? with a new receiver you could run all the sound thru it and then no matter the source you could hear it through the surround sound. or course depending on how many channels the source is recorded in. but then you really get to play with the various settings like "hall, live, church"etc
