I'm assuming us RX-7 guys are welcome? :) I might round up some of the other Pensacola RX-7 folks.

Shouldn't be Rotary Club instead of RX-8? or are we exclusive to RX-8s only?

DaveT
11-23-2004, 09:23 AM
Everyone is welcome to participate in the event, and we would love to have them. No different than the many RX-7 clubs and events which welcome the RX-8's. We simply wanted to establish a strong RX-8 identity, for now, since that's what brought us all together at last year's event, and what brings us together on this forum.

Seems like a good idea.

I got hooked on the dragon with my friends WRX meet there. My 8 has already been twice this year, although I did not know you guys had a meet there.

Id like to go, especially after the Dragon killed my RE040s last time.

For those who havent been, the area is beautiful, the traffic is slow, and the cops get worse every year in Vonore, on TN 129 after the dragon, and NC 28.

It should seem like a good idea, Waldo, because it is. Come and join us for the 2005 version. There will be many of us "locals" there.

Whaaaa? thats too bad. He came to several Indy events last year..and since Theroms been driving the trooper to the indy meets I dont get much 8 exposure :(. I will be posting the info on the indy rx club mailing list again... especially since our own 421 motorcycle play ground trip sort of fizzled last fall when Radkins totalled his seven.

I'm pretty psyched about it since I will probably be down there with the bike prior to the dragon event. Im playing with some new mapping software so if/when we (indy club) goes..we can take a great route :D.

Alright everyone, we are doing a little better on the raffle after Christmas.

REMEMBER MY DEAL, if we sell 100 tickets by the end of January then I will pull an extra ticket for a free registration.

WE HAVE ALREADY SOLD 54 TICKETS COME ON WE CAN MAKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BlueGrimRX8
01-14-2005, 09:10 AM
Its time to start registering for the event, now that the holidays are over and the new year is starting. Remember your registration must be in by July 31, 2005. I can't believe that only 2 people took advantage of the $5 discount on registration by December 31, 2004. And only 3 people participated in the logo contest. There are over 10,000 members on this board!!!!

The board for the Brotherhood of the Dragon has commited to providing an awesome banquet and great accomodations. We have guarenteed a specific number of spots and have signed a contract for that commitment. Lets get those registrations in!!!

I am making a commitment to you that if you pay for your registration fee and you end up winning the raffle for the free registration then I will refund your money, this way you will not lose out on the chance to win.

Is there something more we need to do to help advertise this or help sell the registration, please your comments are welcome!!!

Hey all - I just bought a Shinka this past Saturday, and am definitely not familiar with these cars - or the type of driving most of you guys do with 'em (track, race, etc). I've been driving a Jeep for years so speed is a welcome addition to my garage. I'd LOVE to go - but need to know a few things first: (a) Can a completely novice driver go and still have fun (and maybe learn something? and (b) if I can only make it down for Fri night/Sat/Sunday is that still sufficient, will I miss everything?

Thanks - I'm glad I found this forums, since it's hopefully a great way to get to know the vehicle, and maybe someone will team me to "drive it" right...

The answer to question (a) is "yes".
The answer to question (b) is "yes" you can participate for as many days as your schedule permits; and "no" you wont miss everything, just whatever happens before you get there.

Hey everyone!
I just wanted y'all to know the Mrs. and I are looking for some folks to share the houseboat. We have it reserved and it seems a shame to hog it all since it sleeps 10.

If we dont get anyone, thats fine.
We'll be hosting a couple evenings of drinking on the upper deck if you are interested.

this tail of the dragon sounds awsome .
my question is how is this thing driven .
meaning
is this a high speed drive as long as you can maintain control or just enjoy the scenery at moderate speed type of drive

07-26-2005, 09:30 AM
either way...you can join the infamous front 5 (me, leep, mazdaspeedferas, and those two pesky STi's :P) or you can hang back and enjoy the road at your own pace. either way its great, youll have an awsome time

And to clear up a mis-understanding,,,,, the special lodging rates will NOT change after July 28th. What changes is that Fontana Village is holding a "block" of space for us so we would all be in close proximity. After July 28th all un-reserved space will be open to the general public, and you may have to settle for space available. In either case, the rates will be the same.

I hope to be sending out a room list sometime by the end of this week. This way we can get a head count on who is where and who needs a roomie.

We will also be updating the site with sponsors and agenda by next week. We want to get a lot of loose ends tied up so that anyone that is on the fence about registering will be convinced.

Turn out is looking good so far, and I can promise you we will have a few suprises up our sleves :)

I've been to the Dragon a few times (3 to be exact - once on a VFR800 and twice in a Highlander 4cyl - lol)

Wish the RX-8 was better on gas! The drive along the Blue Ridge to get down there is GREAT.

I'll plan to go in 2006, see you lads then!

to anyone going to the BOTD, who has a cabin or such with an empty bed:
I may be able to go to the event on 9/9-11, arriving late (11:30-12PM) Friday night, or early Saturday, and leaving Sunday afternoon. If you qualify and have an interest $$ for the empty bed, let me know. My plans to go to the Dragon do not hinge on accomodations but it'd be nice to stay at or near Fontana.

We are only 27 days out!!!!!!!! :D

SO HERE ARE THE NEWEST UPDATES:

I have made some MAJOR updates to the website. Please take a look at the Itinerary Section (http://www.mazdanow.com/dragon2005/itinerary.htm) of the website for the plans of the weekend. There is a lot of information there as well as ideas and things for people looking for additional activities.

Another MAJOR update is the Sponsors (http://www.mazdanow.com/dragon2005/sponsors.htm) area. Please visit all of our Sponsors (http://www.mazdanow.com/dragon2005/sponsors.htm) as they have been so kind to donate a lot of the Raffle Prizes (http://www.mazdanow.com/dragon2005/raffleprizes.htm)

As you can see above I have also posted a Raffle Prizes (http://www.mazdanow.com/dragon2005/raffleprizes.htm) list. This list is growing everyday so check back often.

One of the major events of the weekend besides the DRAGON (http://www.mazdanow.com/dragon/assets/mapdragonCHERloop.gif) is the SHOW AND SHINE CAR SHOW. Take a look at the ITINERARY (http://www.mazdanow.com/dragon2005/itinerary.htm) for a list of the categories and prizes. The show will consist of 6 categories. All registered and paid attendees will recieve a voting ballot and will vote on all of the RX-8's that wish to participate. Participation is free with your paid registration. The show will be held on Friday and we will be cooking burgers and socializing. Prizes will be given out during the banquet on Saturday.

I would like to get a tally of where everyone is staying. If you could please email me with your type of cabin and if you need roommates or if you already have some people staying with you let me know that too.

Please PM me or E-Mail (jcgrim@comcast.net) if you have any questions or comments.

**TIME FOR A REMINDER**
As of August 31, 2005 I have to give Fonatana a FINAL number for the banquet. This number will be based on the number of PAID registrations. If you have not paid by August 31, 2005 I can not guarentee you food at the banquet or a T-Shirt, I will try to get you a goody bag, time permitting. As of right now we have 37 Attendees (including guests) of which 11 have not paid for registration. Remember as always registration is not required but paying the registration fee gets you:
Discount for lodging at Fontana Village
Goody Bag (including free give aways)
T-Shirt
Raffle Ticket (Check out the sponsors and prizes at mazdanow.com)
Banquet Ticket
Registration into the Car show for prizes

I will be sending out an email to everyone who has not paid yet on August 25, 2005. Please feel free to PM me or E-mail me if there are any problems or questions.

Thanks guys.

I know today is a most unfortunate day for everyone effected by the Hurricane. I would like everyone to know that the Brotherhood of the Dragon will be donating a very substantial sum of money to the relief effort of the American Red Cross. This donation will be made through my company and we will be MATCHING DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR the amount that the BOTD donates. During our trip next week we will be collecting as much as we can from all of the participants and that amount will be matched as well.

With all of that said, today is the last day for registration so if you are on the fence about coming, time to make the good decision and come!!! Check out the website link in my signature and we hope to see everyone there!!

well since brian was in front he got screwed...i barely saw the cop myself, i was in a daze also :( . as soon as i saw him with the gun my detector flipped out showing that we got nailed with laser...i braked hard and he got in his car so fast that he punched it and was even with me in the emergency lane before i even got back down to the speed limit so i knew one of us was gettin it

oh yeah then i stopped at the exit immediately after and got gas...when i got back on the on ramp theres the same cop with the gun and an suv trooper in front of him waitin for me....i thought greeeeat! so i creeped by him nice and slow and he gives me the stare down, radios to the suv which proceeds to do a super trooper move and floor it up to my rear bumper and swerve around me to get someone else...so needless to say i had to stop again and use the facilities

canada huh? almost made it

10 Signs you've been spending time killing dragons:

1. You think a friendly wave at a cop will get you out of anything. :(
2. Coming down the street in your own neighborhood, a neighbor pulls into his driveway and you blast by in the grass with a peace sign out the window and a polite honk of the horn
3. You get stuck behind slow traffic and start doing that stupid thing with your hand out the window lol
4. You actually preflight your car before a quick errand to the store
5. Your DSC light has burned out
6. You've found creative yet naughty uses for Borla stickers
7. Semi's are even more terrifying, even when they're parked
8. You challenged a biker to a bar fight
9. You still have that annoying "rocking boat" feeling in your ear after weeks on dry land
10. You've given up on sane MPG numbers
